nairalanda1:Assuming there is zero corruption, state government would have invested in state industries, manufacturing industries run by private management companies, imagine if subsequent state governors invested in such manufacturing industries, run by private management companies, each year funds are put in to expand the scope of operations, imagine all states doing this, to process agricultural output and minerals resources, imagine the large scale manufacturing units we will have across Nigeria, this will create employment, mobilise local economies, add to our GDP and export drive, and lead to mortgage systems, because more workers will be able to pay mortgage premiums with guaranteed employment all their life...this could have been possible, if governors down the years didn't embezzle but use all states funds on the states, for investment, growth and development. This will generate more revenue for the governors to build houses for the people etc...if you calculate how much states get down the years, you will see what they could have been able to do with it. |

PolyGamous:But u are happy when elites from the non oil producing region enjoy it abi? See masses defending elites Check owners of oil well in Nigeria before supporting criminals |
| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by nairalanda1(m): 10:30am On Mar 04 |
Rayjnr:Well, I did, and note that I did not defend any criminals. Infact, I showed you why your political leaders are bad...up till today, our economy relies on oil alone. Sane nations have diversifed economies, even saner ones(to paraphrase Peter Obi) have manufacutring and productive industries as the basis of our economy. It's not just corruption that is wrong with our leaders, you see. Rayjnr:Well, let's assume we have a leader that would pay social security, unemployed and aged nigerians (and note that I did not say that they should be excused for not paying them, or that they are trying their best)...ie pay all those things for ALL NIGERIANS...including people in the villages and cities, as well as all the unemployed...not just unemployed university graduates. 1. 80% of government revenue comes from oil sales 2.At `under 2 million bpd, oil revenues can only generate about 70 billion dollars. 3. By my estimate, Nigeria would need to be generating somewhere around 500 billion dollars to do what you want. If not more 4. Our leaders are bad because since 1960, they haven't created that type of economy (meanwhile South Korea went from being behind most African nations in 1960 to where it is today). So, I believe we need to stop corruption, let's make that clear...but on today's revenue, we can't pay all the folks you said they should pay...at the rates they should pay them in your mind. That is why either we vote in a leadership that makes us a producer of industrial goods and services, and taxes 40% of the gdp or even more...or we forget about it. Because trying to pay unemployed, aged, and provide a social security net..something that developed countries incur a lot of debt doing so...is going to push us into a debt in the hundreds of billions of dollars. P.S : Don't call me a supporter of corrupt leaders again. It shows you don't get what I am saying. |

| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by PolyGamous(m): 11:00am On Mar 04 |
Rayjnr:Lol, defending elites. Was it given to them for free? Nobody stopped elites from oil producing regions from owning a well, but they preferred importations. I don’t know when investors turned into criminals, naso una go dey shout Dangote monopolizing business that every other elites were clearly watching from afar. If someone decided to invest big in power generation “wind turbines or nuclear plants” now, and people start choosing their services over buying generators, una go come out to defend the generator importers.. Don’t just be literate “someone that went to school, only to be able to read”, but educated “understand what you read”! |

| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by Rayjnr: 11:36am On Mar 04 |
nairalanda1:Yes you are right but remember we don't only get revenue from oil, and the reason I'm advocating for social security is that our elites capitalize on excess funds to steal, Look at their capital project, only roads . |
| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by nairalanda1(m): 11:37am On Mar 04 |
demstone:N500 billion can't do much , nor can N1 trillion. N500 billion is 363 million dollars, 1 trillon naira is 726 million dollars. We need our economy to be at about 500 billion dollars...not naira, dollars...before we can talk. Your maths is off, old man. |
| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by nairalanda1(m): 11:38am On Mar 04 |
Rayjnr:Well, yes, but oil accounts for 80% of government revenue...and that's where the budget comes from. We are oil dependent, essentially. That';s why all our budgets for years have had a oil price benchmark |
| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by Rayjnr: 11:42am On Mar 04 |
nairalanda1:Yeah you are right , I just said we should start from somewhere, Another question, why is it that our only capital project is always road? |
