STATE POLICE: LAGOS IS READY, SAYS IFALADE – GM, LNSA.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, FISN has declared that Lagos State is fully prepared for the establishment of State Police, affirming that the state’s existing security framework is well-positioned for the transition.

Speaking with journalists, Prince Oyekan noted that the Agency, widely regarded as a pioneer of community policing in Nigeria, is strategically structured to evolve into a state security apparatus once the legal framework for State Police is enacted. He explained that the LNSA has undergone significant restructuring and re-engineering to align with modern safety and security demands, adopting a proactive, technology backed and intelligence-driven model across the state.

“We are not designed to merely react to incidents,” he stated. “Our Corps Officers are trained to anticipate, prevent, and mitigate security threats before they occur.”

Prince Oyekan, who was recently reappointed for a second five-year term by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to strengthening grassroots security architecture. He emphasized that under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, the Agency and its Corps arm will continue to evolve into a modern, efficient, and responsive safety institution capable of advancing the vision of a safer Lagos.

But I thought Lagos don get state police already?

Abi, all those RRS are not state police?
Re: State Police: Lagos Is Ready, Says Ifalade – GM, LNSA by helinues:
State policing idea should be suspended now.

Even if the Southern governors claimed they are ready for it, are the Northerners ready,?

Modified: To those asking to explain further

You see the current insecurity in North is based on different factors

Politics- There are some of the attacks in North which is to reduce the opposition base

Religion - Apart from christian persecution story, Sunni and Shia are also fighting themselves but it doesn't make it news

Land grabbing - Bandits sacked, bandits displayed is mostly about land grabbing

And Superiority - We are better, stronger than them, let's prove to them have been part of the attacks in North

You see the politics part is why the state policing should be suspended now. The governor's in North will hunt all their opposition down. Even before them in charge of state police, they already abused it

Can you please explain to us as to why the Northerners are mot ready?

Nigeria belongs to everyone not just the Northerners. If they are not ready in the North, they can keep maintaining the status quote, but the should not stop those that are ready from getting serious with the security of their own people.

The north had been pampered like a baby enough to think every is all about them. All these years they had hisbah police, what does other region have?

I don't think much will change,
Personnel, mindset, attitude, professionalism still same, its only the final reporting line (this case to the Governor) that will change

Really eager to see the structure that will be adopted vis-a-vis the Federal Police and what the jurisdictional arrangements will be in terms of offences, etc.

That change alone will make things and responses faster. It cuts bureaucracy. For now many petitions have to go all the way to Abuja.

Secondly the NPF being Federal is bound to have Federal Character. A person from Maiduguri may not understand a community in Enugu well. With State Police, more focus will be on indigenes or at least long term residents.

One more thing. Most times when policemen commit infractions they are just transferred to another state. That will change.

I don’t agree with your opinion. There is no time the whole country as one will ever be ready for state police, so the earlier we adopted it, the better. Insecurity is growing by the day and Government have tried different avenues to check mate it and we are not getting desired results. Let’s try state police, eventually we will get it right. But for now the foundation of massively cracking down on insecurity will be the implementation of community policing. When Governors in the southern part start seeing results, the Governors in the North will seat up. It can happen, we can make it work.

They are all under the control of FG
State police becomes official when there is an amendment in that section of the constitution that removes policing from the exclusive to concurrent list!
Meaning policing in states is no longer under the control of the FG but now devolved or decentralized to states!
Re: State Police: Lagos Is Ready, Says Ifalade – GM, LNSA by bentenny(m): 6:19am On Mar 06
I just hope while drafting an amendment to the constitution, the national assembly committee will ensure that unambiguous clauses will protect the independence of the state police!
Any law that gives state governors unlimited control over the state police is a recipe for disaster!
Re: State Police: Lagos Is Ready, Says Ifalade – GM, LNSA by Cyberterror: 6:20am On Mar 06
The late President Buhari amended the constitution to give states the power to establish and run their own prisons. Now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is about to amend the constitution to give states power to establish their own police force. APC is giving Nigeria true federalism, something the failed PDP couldn't do in 16 years of 'share the money' government.

okay, please try to be as pragmatic as possible without bias, using the Southwest as an example, if some bad herdsmen harms a farmer, will the farmer get justice even if the herdsmen are arrested by the State Police personnel??

You want to force something that some people are not yet ready for. Hahah, that would rather worsen the situation.

Please tell me the main objective of the insecurity in North for years or benefits

State policing would be the best
Re: State Police: Lagos Is Ready, Says Ifalade – GM, LNSA by gbadexy(m): 6:34am On Mar 06
That has always been the plan before inception. It's what I have always known.
It was created as a standby when opportunity arise.
I commend the forward thinking of lagos politics under the influence of tinubu.
Same way they championed LCDA to create more local government. If the opportunity arises, it would transition to local government.
The man's policies is harsh but you can't deny his sagacity.

This is an extremely insightful and very fair question and for me the solution rests in placing jurisdiction for cross-border crimes with the Federal Police. This is standard in most Federal Republics with similar structures.

let the north do whatever they wish to do with themselves but when they transport their nonsense to the south , them go collect, just like they were transporting terrorism to kwara ,ekiti and ondo, reason state police is needed badly for now
