Even RFK Jr whom Trump appointed as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services is a... Guess who he is... A lawyer. An environmental lawyer, but a lawyer nonetheless.
When you listen to his press conferences, he always talks about listening to advice from the experts.

If our Minister of Power listens to and implements advice of and by experts, he'll deliver; engineering or tech background regardless.

EXCLUSIVE: ILLEGAL LITHIUM MINING AND EMERGING SECURITY THREATS IN IGBETI-OLORUNSOGO LGA, OYO STATE.

In an earlier report, I highlighted how illegal mining operations in parts of Oyo State are gradually evolving into organized community-based activities, creating significant security risks for the state and surrounding regions.

Recent video evidence from communities in Igbeti and Kisi indicates that lithium is being openly displayed and sold in public markets, almost as casually as staple commodities. This activity appears to be taking place without visible enforcement actions from relevant security agencies or regulatory authorities.

This development is particularly concerning given the recent kidnapping incident along the Igbeti–Kisi road, near the Old Oyo National Park axis in Olorunsogo Local Government Area. Preliminary local reports suggest that the attack on travelers may have been carried out by armed bandits believed to be providing protection for illegal mining operations in the area.

The situation raises serious governance and regulatory concerns. Lithium an increasingly strategic mineral due to its role in global battery supply chains is reportedly being traded openly in Igbeti, suggesting that illegal extraction and distribution networks may be operating with minimal oversight. The Oyo State Government should urgently investigate these activities and clarify enforcement measures being taken to curb illegal mining and the public sale of mineral resources.

Further field reports indicate that illegal mining activities have expanded into Soro Village in Kisi, where motorcycles are reportedly being used to transport lithium from illegal mining sites to nearby collection points. Local sources also claim that a large illegal mining site is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from the location where the Illegal Mining Task Force was previously established, raising questions about the effectiveness of existing monitoring structures.

Experience across several mining regions in Nigeria shows that communities that tolerate or benefit from illegal mining often become vulnerable to organized criminal networks, banditry, and kidnapping, as armed groups move in to protect extraction sites and supply routes.

For this reason, the Federal Government of Nigeria must also strengthen mechanisms to prevent the open trade of illegally mined lithium in markets such as those reported in Igbeti and Soro (Kisi). This will require coordinated enforcement by mining regulators, law enforcement agencies, and local authorities.

Without swift intervention, the illegal lithium trade in this corridor could evolve into a larger security and economic threat, undermining lawful mineral governance while creating safe havens for criminal actors operating around the Old Oyo National Park axis and the Igbeti–Kisi corridor

I'd like to imagine what the thought process of the minister of power would be when the person who appointed him to improve the nation's power sector, abandons the national grid.. What's the zeal there again to work?

I agree. It is classist. But with the electricity subsidy gone (supposedly) and the debt the NERC and discos owe, bands which are premium are the surest way to recover monies from distribution.

Until most parts of Nigeria are metered, there's no way to really recover money as most get lost to unscrupulous Disco staff themselves.

It's selfish, it's harsh, it's classist; but from a pure, unfeeling numbers perspective, it makes sense.

The problem is, how do you communicate that to masses who FEEL more than the logically analyze issues? Just accept the insults 'cause no explanation will suffice.

You'll better understand when you befriend Disco officials and you guys get to discuss power from an insider perspective. It opened my eyes.
