When some of us were saying no to Dangote getting monopoly for PMS supply in Nigeria , we know what we are saying. We know energy security should be the guiding principle for the regulators in the oil & gas space and granting Dangote the monopoly he craves will always jeopardize that.

Dangote is bearing his fangs cancelling existing supply agreements, forbidding customers to load at already agreed price and forcing them to kowtow to his new pricing that has nothing to do with the war (since the product are already refined even before the war and the existing agreement should guarantee they get to load at existing price).

Let importation continue and let him continue to battle things out with importers so the consumers can buy at the most competitive price.
but I thought this guy was coming to save us

Dangote is only out to turn his profit on investment as fast as he can, and he will use any means possible. He will exploit the system as much as he can, then give scholarships here and there, do some CSR projects and everyone will hail him.

It's always funny reading their permutations, copium and wishful thinking.

Anybody following the war in real time will know that it will take years for Iran to get back to their Pre-war position considering the level of shelling they have received to their military, economic and human assets. Their navy has been run ragged, their Airforce has seen premium shege, most IRGC command bases and military installations have been seriously hit across the Persian nation. Their military hierarchy can't even have meeting to discuss tactical course of action without risking being bombed to blazes in their own country.

If u follow NRGC mouth for this war matter, u go think say IRGC is the one raining hell fire on the Yankees and the Jews.

There are some jobs one should decline, no matter how attractive the offer may be.
The Ministry of Power in Nigeria is one of them. Even you, if you were appointed as Minister of Power today, there is very little you could achieve within a short time.
Take Babatunde Fashola for example. He was widely regarded as a highly competent and capable man. Yet many people believe that accepting the power ministry ultimately dented his reputation, to the point that critics mockingly referred to him as the “Minister of Darkness.”

So, Experts estimate that Nigeria needs about 30,000 to 40,000 megawatts of electricity to enjoy stable power supply. but the country still struggles to generate around 5,000 megawatts on average since independence, that was over 65 years ago, since Nigeria stands alone.
The question then is, what miracle can any Minister of Power perform within four years to produce the additional 25,000 or 35,000 megawatts that successive governments have failed to deliver over the past 65 years?
Nigeria’s past governments are the ones that failed woefully in power generation, not the current Minister of Power.

Let’s swap the current best performing minister, David Umahi, to the Ministry of Power and see, if he can perform magic there. 🤣😂😂

You are literally making this post to justify failure.

Nothing concern me with Fashola or any other failed minister. Nobody expects Adelabu to perform miracle, but we are not expecting things to get worse under his tenure as minister. We expect things to get better when government takes over from another because ideally governance should be continuum, but the opposite is the case here.

Adelabu came up with the theory that making consumers pay more via the band system would translate to improved power supply. Tho most of us never believed him, were forced to go along with it in hope that when premium price is paid; premium service would be delivered. But what do we have today? Your guess is as good as mine, things have turned out for worse.

As bad as Buhari's administration was, things were not as bad as this in the power sector. Haba! If Adelabu cannot better our lot, he should please resign abeg and go face his governorship ambition in his state. Let someone who can even keep things at status quo replace him instead of the nonsense he's serving us.

The problem is that they are learning on the job. Is Adelabu Power inclined?

Since Independence, what's his expertise on Power in Nigeria? Has he ever been involved?

This is the problem when Ministers are produced based on, "Lagos give me 2 names, Kebbi give me 2 names, Anambra give me 2 names". Then the president picks however he wants, and here you have it. And it isn't about Tinubu, it's a political problem in Nigeria.

Yes, there are examples of people who achieve successes despite zero expertise, but what's the ratio of the successful ones to the failed ones?

Umahi is an engineer, maybe Civil; a square peg in a square hole.

If we must get Power right, a Power person must be there. APC can go and look for a Power Genius in Nigeria, force him to join APC (since na party person go dey there), and put him there.

Adelabu won't be different from anyone put there, as long as you don't understand the field

I will continue to repeat - it is a MONEY PROBLEM. if you have load in your house of 9kva max and you have a busted past it's end of life I pass my neighbour gen, no number of brilliant engineers can sort your issues.

Take your own internal power issue that you are managing because of cash flow and multiply it.

Now imagine you are running a business proper. If you upgrade your gen you have to pass the cost on to your clients or you go bust. Are your clients ready for this?

Umahi is not square peg anything. All that walking around inspecting bridge is performative stunting. There are multiple people in the chain of command who can inspect.

This is the exact same way Fashola told us that power generation isn't hard. It's just bring many "I better pass my neighbor generators" together and everything would be okay.

He failed woefully today.

If you have no idea on what it entails, you'll keep guessing it's a money problem. If we give you money, you'll say it's a sabotage problem. If we remove sabotage, you'll say it's a spiritual problem

Let a person in power fix power.

If you read my post carefully, you should know that I’m not defending or justify failure.
I started by saying there are certain jobs one should decline, no matter how lucrative they appear, and Nigeria’s power ministry is one of them.
No matter how hard you try in that position, people will still call you out because the rots in that sector can not be addressed obernight and the ministry itself is extremely demanding.
Imagine being responsible for serving 100 people when the resources available to you can barely serve 5. How do you cope in such a situation?
That is essentially the reality facing Adelabu.

What past governments failed to address for over 65 years, we now expect one person to fix in less than a year. What kind of magic do we expect him to perform?
So I’m not defending him, I’m simply stating the facts.
You can quote me anywhere, as things stand in this country today, there is nobody, let me repeat, nobody, who can be appointed Minister of Power and completely transform the electricity situation within a year 2 or 3. It doesn’t matter whether the person comes from Nigeria, America, or anywhere else in the world, but it is gradual process, I believe we will get there .
The scale of the problem is far beyond what one individual or one tenure can fix.

Just to put things in perspective, last year I read that China generates over 3.3 million megawatts of electricity, while Nigeria struggles to transmit about 4,500 to 5,000 megawatts for a population of over 230 million people. That alone shows how deep the challenge really is.

It will still get worse, why?
Because Nigeria has experienced significant growth in electricity demand. More houses have been built, more industries have emerged, and far more electrical appliances are being used across the country. All these increase pressure on the grid. Yet the generation capacity has remained roughly around the same 5,000 MW level that existed at the end of buhari administration.

Has there been any new major addition to the national power grid?
So naturally, the strain on the power system will appear worse today because demand keeps increasing while supply has barely moved.

Adequate distribution of energy is a cornerstone for national development, playing a critical role in facilitating industrialization and trade. Recognising the challenges in the sector such as inadequate liquidity, high level of debt, and a lack of profitability, Afreximbank continues to support energy projects on the continent and has committed in excess of US$ 4.6 billion to Africa’s power sector since inception. With approximately USD 900 million of funding in Nigeria, the Bank is one of the leading financiers in the Nigerian power sector. In 2021, Afreximbank signed a US$50 million term loan facility with Geometric Power Limited to support the completion of the generation and distribution infrastructure, commissioning of the gas supply pipeline and commencement of operations of the project.

https://www.thisdaylive.com/2025/07/29/geometric-chair-urges-nerc-nmdpra-to-fix-disparity-in-gas-to-power-prices/

Chairman of Geometric Power Limited and former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji has called on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to reconcile the worrying disparity in gas-to-power prices which is contributing to the challenge in gas supply to power generation companies (Gencos).

Nnaji made the call in Lagos while speaking at the Oriental News Nigeria 2025 Conference, with the theme: “Integrating Nigeria’s Gas Potential into Strategic Energy Transition Initiatives”.

Specifically, he urged NERC and NMDPRA to reconcile the gap between the regulated $2.42 per million British thermal units (MMBTU) domestic gas price for power generation and the prevailing market rate of $2.70 to $9.

He advocated a more realistic tariff framework that aligns with actual gas procurement costs for electricity Gencos.

Nnaji noted that while the official domestic gas price for power generation was formerly pegged at $2.42 per MMBtu, the NMDPRA revised this down to $2.13/MMBtu effective April 1, 2025.

He, however, noted that in reality, Gencos often source gas from the open market where prices range from $2.70 to as high as $9/MMBtu, depending on supply constraints and contract terms.

“Because most electricity is generated using gas, sourcincos depend heavily on sourcing this gas from the open market, the disparity between the regulated and actual prices continues to strain the sector,” Nnaji said.

He warned that the pricing gap is worsening the liquidity challenge in the power sector, contributing significantly to the N1.1 trillion electricity subsidy recorded in the first half of 2025 and the N5 trillion debt owed Gencos by the federal government.

According to him, the gas-to-power benchmark being below market realities places an unsustainable burden on power producers.

He also emphasised the need for more cost-reflective electricity tariffs, explaining that the current pricing structure fails to cover the operational and maintenance costs of Gencos, particularly as many critical inputs are imported.

“The energy charge component of the power tariff must be able to cover the cost of maintaining the assets. If operators can’t recover expenses for operations and maintenance, which are often dollar-denominated, there will be recurring system failures. The regulator must continue to adjust the tariff in line with actual industry costs to ensure sustainability,” Nnaji stated.

MorataFC:
It will still get worse, why?
Because Nigeria has experienced significant growth in electricity demand. More houses have been built, more industries have emerged, and far more electrical appliances are being used across the country. All these increase pressure on the grid. Yet the generation capacity has remained roughly around the same 5,000 MW level that existed at the end of buhari administration.

Has there been any new major addition to the national power grid?
So naturally, the strain on the power system will appear worse today because demand keeps increasing while supply has barely moved.
I don't know where you are getting your data from, but I beg to disagree with you that things will get worse.

We have more existing customers moving to Solar power and even new houses being built are equipped with solar panels and inverters.

I said You are making excuse for failure you said no, but you are literally doubling down on your initial post without telling us what exactly Adelabu whom you are holding brief for has done either improve power generation or power transmission. I take it that you are not speaking from the position of deep knowledge of Adelabu's efforts to make things better, rather you are speaking as someone who has already conditioned his mind to accept things will get worse even if a power sector technocrat replaces Adelabu.

We know he sold the idea that things will get better once people pay more, but the opposite has been the case.

Can you please tell us what and what he has done to improve our lot but those efforts have defied the odds?

But nowhere did he complain about not being able to generate and transmit power na. We already agreed there's money issue and that's why Adelabu pushed for increase in tariff. Why is he not showing workings like Nnaji who has earned the right to complain about the money problem?
