Turaki-Led PDP Rejects Ruling On National Convention, Heads To Supreme Court by SlavaUkraini(op): 5:59am On Mar 10
The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has rejected the judgement of the appeal court, nullifying the national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo.

In a ruling on Monday, the court of appeal upheld the judgment of a federal high court, which restrained the PDP from conducting the national convention.

A three-member panel of the appellate court dismissed an appeal filed by the PDP challenging the jurisdiction of the Abuja federal high court to entertain the suit.

Uchechukwu Onyemenam, who delivered the lead judgment, held that the PDP violated constitutional provisions governing the conduct of a convention and failed to serve the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a valid notice as required by law.

The appellate court also held that congresses were not held in more than 14 states, as provided by law, before the event.

Onyemenam ruled that the matter raised by those who filed the suit at the high court should not be regarded as internal affairs of the party and that the lower court was right in assuming jurisdiction and granting an order restraining the electoral umpire from accepting or recognising the outcome of the national convention.

In a statement issued after the verdict, Ini Ememobong, PDP spokesperson of the Turaki faction, said the party’s lawyers have been directed to file an appeal against the judgement at the supreme court.

“The operationalisation of this judgement will, without fail, work untold hardship on our members,” the statement reads.

“To avert this, while we are consulting with critical organs of our party on the way forward, we have also instructed our lawyers to immediately take legal steps to appeal same to the Supreme Court, being the apex court in the land, to conclusively adjudicate on this matter.”

Ememobong said the party is hopeful that the apex court will “expeditiously settle this matter in the interest of democracy”.

The PDP spokesperson urged party members to be united, adding that the legal battle will soon be over and they will be “more than conquerors”.

Ememobong said the PDP must be rescued “from the hands of government agents masquerading as opposition leaders”.

The issues of law and fact are very clear making sure that the decision at the Supreme Court will not change. More fines are sure to come!

A lot of people are unaware that the president is covertly paying judges. You don't expect them to stand for justice and truth. These judges and people of the law are being serviced out of the drug money laundering funds that the president's men laundering into the country through international banks and transfers. If the opposition make any attempts to mimic this financial stint, they get invites from efcc and icpc. Which way Nigeria.

They are just being selfish..
Lock yourself in a room....put your interests on the table...share the NWC offices...share States and LGA.. ...and give to all the political gladiators...make everyone go hold their states..and give them right of Consensus..

With these, you would have satisfied every political interests...if not all..atleast to some extent.

This is very necessary..so that PDP can have candidates on the ballot at the next elections.

If you go to the Supreme Court...all of you will lose....even if you win...you won't be able to field any candidate in the 2027 elections ..

So, what will be the gains of party loyalist at the grassrootshuh

PDP leaders should think!!!

At supreme they will give Turaki led legitimacy, but by then, it would have been too late, maybe they won't even have a single gov again, that is script Tinubu and Wike are playing.

So, in future they won't say, Tinubu govt using state apparatus (judiciary) to scuttle the main opposition, meanwhile, they allow supreme to side PDP, because the deal had been done already.

Turaki led PDP shouldn't waste their funds to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Nothing positive will come out from the Supreme Court.

Both the Judiciary and Legislature has been bought over by the Ruling party.

When a current Minister is busy building personal Houses for the Judges, and Nigerians expect the Judiciary to function optimally.

No way.
My sympathy goes to the Oppositions .

IT'S FINISHED IN THIS COUNTRY

The fastest way to be set up for international disgrace and ridicule on a galactic scale is to support a notorious drug bárón and certificate fórgér and also stand on his mandate.

If in doubt, ask Daniel Bwala.

I pity Bala the most.
He has no where to go to. Seyi is already in ADC.

I tell you I strongly differ with the Appeal Court judgements yesterday, but this Supreme Court will not do anything.

On what grounds will you disagree with the appeal judgment when there where grievous violations of pdp constitution? The convention was conducted contrary to pdp laws...
I don't think Seyi will join ADC

I contend strongly with it because of jurisdiction.

The three plaintiffs didn't attempt to buy forms, their states were not amongst the 14 contested. They are neither members of NWC or NEC of the Party. Again, non-joinder of any of the 14 alleged affected States.

Aspirants are suppose to query the system. Let's be honest here, you are telling me an ordinary APC member in Ayeh-Gbede in Ijumu LGA will be filing a suit challenging the APC National Convention where he neither is participating or have entrenched interests? We have seen all of this before. They simply have no jurisdiction having not shown sufficient input to show their purpose of grievance.

They have partial jurisdiction as members of pdp, voters in the congress and will be affected by the actions of the party. Where an infraction or a violation is very grievous and fatal, the issue of jurisdiction which is technicality can be waived

It won't happen with the ruling Party. We saw things like these overlooked by the Supreme Court as early as 2022.

On the issue of ad-hoc delegates, we see the Supreme Court argue profusely that delegates who are members of the Party are not aspirants hence cannot contend same even in gross violation of Party rules. We saw this many many times.

See, this issue of jurisdiction in a party matter is not cast in stone and not constitutionally specific. It is fluid, flexible and malleable. It is neither here nor there. It is down to the judges and they will rule based on the exigencies, scenario, trend, interest at that time. I can't argue on points of law but on common sense.

Legally, the desire to do justice overrides any technicality. Once there's a grievous violations or crime, justice must be done. One cannot hide behind jurisdiction. The law weighs the offence and the technicality and the balance of probability prevails. Normally, the court would have said it is an internal party matter and dismiss the case but for them to overlook this, then there is nothing stopping them from doing substantial justice. Once you fail to handle your party matters and you go to court, you are at the mercy of the judges. It is a political matter and of course......
