Campaign posters promoting former President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2027 presidential election have surfaced in parts of Kaduna, triggering fresh conversations about the possibility of his return to Nigeria’s top political office.

The posters appeared in several locations across the city on Monday morning. Residents noticed them at busy intersections and along major roads. Some were pasted on walls, electric poles and roadside structures.

A number of the materials were spotted along the popular Ahmadu Bello Way and around Kawo Bridge. Commuters and traders were seen pausing to read the messages printed on them. The sudden appearance of the posters quickly sparked discussions among residents and passers-by.

The campaign materials carried inscriptions such as “One Term to Reset, One Nation to Unite” and “2027: Sai Maimalfa.” The messages have since generated political speculation about whether the former president may consider returning to the race ahead of the next general elections.

A group identified as the GEJ Restoration Movement claimed responsibility for the posters. Members of the group described the effort as a grassroots campaign aimed at persuading Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

According to the group, the former leader still commands national respect and enjoys goodwill across different parts of the country. They argued that his leadership experience could help address current political tensions and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

The posters have also triggered debate within political circles in Kaduna and beyond. Some political observers believe the move may be part of early alignments ahead of the next electoral cycle. Others see it as a pressure tactic by supporters who want the former president to reconsider national politics.

However, supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have dismissed the development. They described it as a familiar political strategy that often appears years before elections.

According to them, the presence of campaign posters should not automatically be taken as confirmation that Jonathan intends to join the 2027 race.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, has not made any public statement regarding the posters or any possible political ambition for the next election.

If he was "betrayed" by anybody, it has to be by his Southern brother, Tinubu, who ganged up with the North against him. Why are you all afraid of the prospects of Jonathan entering the race? Scratch that, why are you all afraid of any and every opposition?
