One of the reasons I laugh when I see people comparing Azikiwe with some local tribal champions.. Azikiwe that was rubbing shoulders internationally, hence his PanAfricanism, while others were busy swimming in the ocean of tribalism and ethnic jingoism

Igbos have been looking for medicine to cure Zik-inflicted disease. He was the least foresighted for asking for continuation of Nigeria in the 1960s.
Anyway, he was born in Zungeru, northern Nigeria. He had the interest of his fellow northerners.

Nigeria does not have national hero. That's just the fact. There are regional and tribal heroes. But no one has done enough to be regarded as NATIONAL

While I don't know the criteria used for selecting the hero's, I know that some people won't be happy seeing who the Nigerian hero is.
Looks like it would have been better to have hero's per region when it comes to Nigeria. Each of the 3 major regions have their own hero's and won't accept one from the other region. That's how tribalized the country is.
