Why do we have six English team in the champions league. It's because it's the best league,UEFA normally give an extra slot to the two best leagues (England and Italy for this year) Even some countries with 4 slits has been reduced to 2 or 1 but England still maintain the 6 slots up till now which I'm sure at least 3 English team will qualify for next round |

A competition of two legs. From your logic why didn't Dortmund go through after winning the first leg? Football has some of the most delusional people you will see in the name of football banter. Tottenham a team fighting relegation in EPL made it to the round of 16 in the champion league. Crazy part is the same Tottenham won the Europa why in the similar situation. A 2-0 result and Liverpool are through, 1-0 and arsenal is through, if by some miracle Newcastle wins the second leg they are through. Chelsea, Man city and Tottenham are the ones with mountains to climb. The crazy part is all 6 English team made it through the group phase. Why didn't all the Spanish teams, all the Italian teams, all the German teams, all the French teams make it through? Let's forget banter and wait until the competition is over to judge who did well. PSG who won it last year were written off. The Barcelona people said will win it only ended in the semi. Inter Milan that removed Barca went on to have a horrible final. |

It's obviously fatigue and fixture congestion that's affecting The EPL teams...At the beginning of the completion they all did well. and English FA is not even helping matters.. PSG weekend match is postponed so they can rest for trip to London... and Chelsea on the other hand must play this weekend then prepare for ucl on Tuesday |

There are too many games in the English game, FAcup, EPL, EPLcup, no winter breaks meaning fatigue and fatigue means lots of injuries. Not that we viewers are complaining. In the qualifiers with relatively fresher squads they did well, but diminishing returns have set in. |

Hmmmmmmmmmm..... Let me first heave a very big sigh cus I knew this analysis is gonna come up. I wanted to personally make the post myself but it seems some people are more favored to make the front page than others. Now into the main matter. At Op, why did you wait for a single ucl week where none of the EPL teams won in a 1st leg to bring up this analysis. What say you after 5 of 6 teams makes the league phase top 8. And the 6th eventually joins them. Do you think it's a coincidence or their actual abilities? It's no coincidence that epl is in the top of UEFA coefficient ranking and by a mile, their teams have shown it over the years and have already automatically giving them another 5 spots going to next season ucl. 9 EPL teams entered for UEFA competition this season and all 9 are still alive till now. . In la liga, without Madrid and Barca nothing for Spain in Europe. And it's been made possible for both teams by dividing 50% share of la liga tv rights and leaving the rest for others. Where's the competitive edge for others in the league. In France, no PSG no ligue 1 representation in Europe. They too have all the money others don't have and so can buy the best players to compete in Europe. Same with Munich in Germany, Bayern collects all the best players in Germany and unleash it on the league and in Europe, making it a one man league. Let me no even mention Serie A that Atalanta who's certainly out manages to save their ass by being the only team from there to make the round of 16. . But in England, tv rights money are shared equally that's why West Ham, Forest and the likes can buy players clubs like Roma, Lyon, Sevilla, Bilbao, Betis, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Marseille, Lazio, Atalanta e.t.c can't buy. Which now makes the epl very competitive and marketable. Take for example the bad form Madrid and ATM are in their league, yet they're still in 2nd and 3rd place and will certainly qualify for Ucl next season. Let's use the ucl league phase as an example, if all the big teams in Europe are gathered in one league. Do you think the likes of Madrid, ATM, Barca, Munich, PSG, Inter/Milan, Napoli, Dortmund and co will be making the ucl consecutively every year. My darling Man United is suffering from the competitiveness of the EPL today, whereby you snooze and fumble no ucl for you. As it is now, one of Man United, Chelsea, and Liverpool may not make the Ucl next season, Spurs one of the big team in epl is already out of it. But other top dogs in their leagues can fumble as they want and still make top 4. All this is what makes Epl superior for now and the most watch league in the world even though most of you won't admit it. . To buttress my points further. Spanish clubs has won the ucl 20 times with just 2 clubs been Barca and Madrid. English clubs has won it 15 times with 6 different clubs. Can you see the spread and competitiveness of the English clubs to do better, whereas without Barca and Madrid nothing for la liga. Lastly, we or I have to admit the humbling of the EPL clubs in this 1st leg of round of 16 was shocking and it was that shock that prompted you to say or think they're overhype. Nah, they're not overhype. They earn their stripes fair and square and rightly so. Even if all of them are eliminated in this round, it will not diminished their recent dominance in Europe. But let's see how the return legs goes, you can never say never when it comes to the round leather game. |

occfx:The Associations in Europe helped their clubs reschedule. The likes of Madrid, Bayern, PSG played on Friday giving them enough recovery time for UCL midweek while English clubs were occupied with a full list of midweek EPL fixtures. Congestion is not helping Premiership teams and it shows at the latter stages. If fatigue did not matter why will a whole Real Madrid play on Friday, which for them is extraordinary and loss making from the attendance perspective. The English FA is not helping their clubs playing in Europe enough. |
