They just installed electricity meter on our yard and the meter given to us carries a back log of 2.5 million naira for the whole yard. We got to know this after the free unit given to us was exhausted. We related this to the landlord and he said that there is nothing for him to do. We went to Nepa office and they asked us to pay 150k for some units for some days. The house is so hot at night and the children are suffering. A similar incident in a neighboring street made the landlord arrest his tenant for disconnecting light of the whole yard until his own is fixed.
I don't want to take laws into my hands yet, I want to ask how do I go about this.

Sends a detailed mail to your electricity distribution company about the incident... Ensure to copy NERC in your email.
PRINT out a copy of the mail and send to the PHCN office in your arrear and tell them NERC is on the matter. Leave the rest to God and NERC!!!

Ensure to always follow up with NERC in your issues

Dear OP, I had 1.2m plus on mine and paid over 500k some weeks ago and they can't load the units on my meter.

Don't write to NERC as they have handed over the power to your state electricity regulatory commission. I'm in Lagos and wrote to LASERC who have been following up and made EKEDC come to my flat to investigate the bill before I made a payment.

I had 508k plus for negative reading and 730k plus for units on postpaid before installation of this meter.

Go to the office of your distribution company and ask to see the person that can help you trace the source of the 2.5m (customer care may not be satisfactory in their response) and if possible get the marketer managing your compound to assist you.

For a yard, like you stated, the 2.5m is possible if you people have been sorting the bills illegally.

Please have you been able to solve the prepaid issue,I moved to a new apartment this year, along the way prepaid metre was brought by PHCN , the apartment was previously on direct connection not prepaid,we do pay every month,but we have not had light for over four weeks now because of outstanding they fabricated on the meter,how were you able to solve yours, being without light is like a nightmare
