StoryHaven:The point was never about who founded the industry, that's a separate conversation. The real question is who has driven and dominated the Nollywood brand that the world recognizes today, and the answer to that is clear - the Igbos. And yes, the Yorubas made Yoruba-language home videos, but so did the Hausas and the Igbos too. Igbo-language home videos were made alongside the English-language productions. The difference is that the Igbos were simultaneously building the English-language home video industry that eventually turned Nollywood into a global brand. That brand was not built on our indigenous-language movies. It was built on the English-language movies that reached every Nigerian home and every African market and was overwhelmingly Igbo-driven. Don't play bro. ![]() |

If you can't beat 'em, you join 'em! Lagos is the heartbeat of the music industry in Nigeria, no doubt! Once you can breakthrough the Lagos music scene, you breakthrough the Nigerian music scene. It is pertinent to note however that not all Lagos based musicians are successful. The music scene is highly competitive and one must work extremely hard in order to gain recognition. Yorubas tend to dominate the music industry because of their proximity to Lagos State which happens to be an added advantage. Besides, there's no State like Lagos State in Nigeria. Ogun State, for example, despite it's closeness to Lagos State, can't be compared to Lagos State in terms of social life. Lest we forget, Lagos remains the "Center of Excellence"! Eko Oni Baje o! @hotseat |

Lyricalz01:Which Igbo people are supposedly “dominating” Nollywood? Please, let’s deal with facts instead of comforting myths. First, the richest and most commercially successful actress in Nigeria today is Funke Akindele—a Yoruba woman. She isn’t just successful; she has practically turned the Nigerian box office into her personal playground. Her film A Tribe Called Judah became the first Nollywood movie to cross the ₦1-billion mark at the Nigerian box office. Before that, she already broke records with Omo Ghetto: The Saga and Battle on Buka Street. In other words, the same Yoruba actress keeps breaking the records over and over again. And that’s just one person. Look at the films dominating streaming platforms. Movies rooted in Yoruba history and culture like Jagun Jagun and Aníkúlápó have pulled massive global audiences and trended internationally. Then look at the powerhouse filmmakers behind many of these successes—people like Kunle Afolayan, Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, and Toyin Abraham—all major drivers of Nollywood’s most commercially successful productions. So again, which “Igbo domination” are we talking about? When the biggest box-office records are being set by Yoruba filmmakers, when Yoruba cultural epics are dominating cinemas and streaming platforms, and when some of the industry’s most influential stars are Yoruba, the claim that Igbo people dominate Nollywood starts to sound less like a fact and more like wishful thinking. Let’s be honest: Nollywood is a national industry with contributions from many groups. But if we’re talking about box-office power, cultural influence, and record-breaking productions, the Yoruba footprint is simply impossible to match by the igbos. So please—stop deceiving yourself. The scoreboard is right there for everyone to see. |

You are afraid to mention nepotism, ethnocentrifugation, tribalizatiin of the entertainment industry, northerners are wiser to come out with kannywood, but in the south south inspire of the wealth that is generated from the region for the development of the entire country we are still behaving as errandboys and girls, including religious indoctrination from self centred YORUBA people . |
