NDPC Warns Content Creators To Respect Citizens’ Privacy The attention of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has been drawn to the activities of individuals who take pictures and video footage of unsuspecting members of the general public and share same on social media platforms. These acts violate the rights of citizens to informational self-determination as guaranteed under S.37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act).source

casdoruche:A campaign rally is a public event therefore anyone whose image is captured there should reasonably expect it to be shared. It is quite different from a person who is walking on the road and minding his business while one id1at is busy secretly recording him in the name of one stupiid content! |

These acts violate the rights of citizens to informational self-determination as guaranteed under S.37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act). what the hell is this? There is no expectation of privacy in a PUBLIC place. The best you could do is wear a mask. Which section of NDP ACT are they talking about. How social media process the information that users upload to thier site is different from IMAGE rights where any person that appear in the video can attempt to get a cut from the profit the video copyright holder for using the image. but the videographer still owns the copyright except they transferred to someone else. |

Actually that brt lady was lucky not to meet someone like myself. If you wan complain, no put my face on your content. And if I ask politely and you dey follow me form woke, I smash your phone. Since everybody wan dey mad |
| Re: NDPC Warns Content Creators To Respect Citizens’ Privacy by Yemmysworld91: 6:23pm On Mar 13 |
I'm surprised that brt lady got a lot of support. Her protest is right, but her actions is wrong. This law isn't peculiar to Nigeria. You shouldn't be recording people without their consent. You only have the right to record me if I'm at an organized event. But randomly recording people is a crime. But we argue with sentiments and gladly support anything against the current government. But what do I know Another thing is, it's not a must she takes brt on that route, danfo buses are available. She was just chasing clout. It is well. |

success1smyn:Just to criticize..obviously.. Common sense is not common indeed Like as if the campaign situations these people aired are not well aware that camera is rolling and still choses to stay in that space!.. Worse, if you dont want it, respectfully step away!. Awareness is Key… Not that youll now randomly film someone unaware and post without consent!!!. Some of them sef.. even if you catch them in the act and protest that you dont like it that they should have it deleted, they will still be forming right! Omo.. Actually, It’s high time these right laws are strongly enforced abeg!. 🚶♀️🚶♀️ |

I just wish one lawyer was on that queue and sues her. Simple. Unfortunately, in the court, she can't claim to be doing it unknowingly as there are documented evidence that it's her stock in trade with multiple warnings for her to stop. Na 20k fine she go chop anyway. But she go stop am. |

| Re: NDPC Warns Content Creators To Respect Citizens’ Privacy by Guestmale: 6:38pm On Mar 13 |
This is a good and welcome development, you don't have the right to invade the privacy of others and broadcast to the whole world without due consent, except the person is doing something that is injurious to the other person or the general public. |
