FG Approves ₦4 Billion Take-Off Grant For Tinubu Poly, Epe Varsity by press9jatv(op): 10:18am On Mar 14
The Federal Government has approved N2bn each as take-off grants for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Abuja and the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe in Epe, Lagos State, as part of efforts to support their early operations.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Thursday during the inauguration of key officials appointed to lead the two institutions, according to Arise News.

Among those inaugurated were Prof. Nosiru Onibon, who will serve as the pioneer Rector of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja; Prof. Adeola Oshikoya, appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe; and Dr Angela Ajala, who assumed office as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education.

Presenting the letters of appointment in Abuja, Alausa said the newly created institutions were part of the Federal Government’s efforts to expand access to higher education and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity in science, technology and innovation.

“Every child in this country deserves access to the highest quality education comparable to global standards. The appointees were carefully selected based on their record of service and achievements across Nigeria’s educational institutions.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. You have been chosen from millions of Nigerians to serve your country, and this recognition extends to your families as well,” the minister said.

He noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu was focused on building a stronger education system capable of producing skilled manpower needed for national development.

According to the minister, the N2bn take-off grants approved for each institution are meant to help the schools establish basic administrative and academic structures as they commence operations.

Alausa urged the newly appointed officials to provide strong leadership that would shape the identity and long-term development of the institutions.

He said the Federal University of Science and Technology in Epe and the polytechnic in Abuja were strategically located to harness the economic potential and human resources available in the two regions.

The minister added that the institutions are expected to focus on areas such as technological innovation, renewable energy, climate change response, disaster risk management and other research fields relevant to national development.

He also congratulated Ajala on her appointment as NCCE Executive Secretary, stressing the importance of teacher education to the development of the country’s education system.

Opportunities for Abuja, Epe Students as FG Invests Billions

Students in Abuja and Epe now have reason to dream bigger. The government has approved N2 billion each to kickstart the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Abuja and the Federal University of Science and Technology in Epe, Lagos State.

Prof. Nosiru Onibon will lead the polytechnic as pioneer Rector, while Prof. Adeola Oshikoya takes charge of the Epe university. Dr. Angela Ajala has also stepped in as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, shaping teacher education across Nigeria.

For students, these new schools aren’t just another campus—they’re hubs for science, technology, renewable energy, climate response, and disaster management. Skills learned here could put young Nigerians ahead in fast-growing global industries.

The N2 billion grants are meant to build labs, classrooms, and administrative structures, giving students a real chance to study in fully equipped environments. It’s about turning ideas into practical skills and future careers.

This move also brings higher education closer to students outside traditional hubs, opening doors for hands-on learning and research that could directly impact local communities.

For young people ready to explore STEM or innovative careers, these institutions aren’t just schools, they’re stepping stones. The next breakthrough in tech, energy, or climate solutions could start in Abuja or Epe.

Like...a normal person is supposed to expect people to name institutions after him based on his achievements not you naming everything after yourself while serving, even the conference center in Abuja that you didn't build, just small renovation you agreed to name it after yourself.

Shame is lacking from that man's dictionary

Truth be told. Tinubu is trying for Lagos. Honestly, Lagos may not have such opportunity again. I don't think any president will send carter bridge. The guy wan demolish am and build it again. Also, most super ways start from Lagos. AI research center in Epe...now poly and university there again. And many more.

Re: FG Approves ₦4 Billion Take-Off Grant For Tinubu Poly, Epe Varsity by Eriokanmi:
4bn can't even set up a university's faculty in the first place. It would have been meaningful when dollar traded for less than 500 naira before he came and spoilt everything in 2023. Even the subsidy proceeds, we no see. Ask them how much they've saved so far and stories will start.

They keep telling their gullible supporters that naira rose to over 1,350 today because the federal government had stopped saving the naira with dollars. But by the time you asked them why cfa, the Benin republic currency that used to be among the worthless currencies in africa had miraculously met the naira and left it very far behind, they keep quiet. They think everyone is as mumu as they and their supporters are.

That 4bn naira will only buy 2 or 3 duplexes in lekki phase 1. What an elephant and deceitful project. Smh!

Why are we still creating polytechnics in 2026? I thought we all knew HND education isn't worth it and it's better to shift attention to technical schools and then universities? I think education at the polytechnic level has proven to be a tool for career discrimination, and there's no single HND graduate who hasn't experienced this.

"Tinubu Poly" but the power sector is begging for attention. Everyone in Nigeria is telling me there's serious heat in the country.

APC make una know wetin una dey do oo.

Very soon, Lagos Lagoon might be changed to Tinubu Lagoon.

Or maybe, lets change Atlantic ocean to Asiwaju ocean.

I don't want to believe it's the president that demands for these naming, I want to believe it's excessive sycophants that are looking for one favour or the other but it's becoming absurd and the president should stop it

Ruling with impunity has taken a centre stage in Nigeria ‼️

The various institutions are struggling and dilapidated yet the Emperor in his wisdom deemed it fit to create another one in his name.
The end is near.

Hmm... Nothing lasts forever truly. PDP too was busy wasting resources and opportunities till they lost power, now they're mostly part of the same APC most people are criticizing.

We're just recycling the same set of people and they keep rebranding to achieve their aims. There's no popular politician today who wasn't affiliated to either PDP or APC at some point, especially those ones at ADC. Nigerians should just shine their eyes in 2027 sha.

Time was when folks like Prof Soyinka would have called a press conference and mounted a Mic to call out any public official who named public institutions after himself while in office.
The dictionaries would have been opened upon the unlucky public servant's head
But ever since our reverred Prof fell among pots and pans, silence has been the watchword. Even the clanging and jingling of the pans have been muted
Nijeriya!!
And what can 2bn do for an institution starting from scratch? And the minister is not ashamed to announce this?

Tinubu will win 2027 presidential election, the real contest is 2031 when power goes to the northern region of Nigeria.
