A viral video shows some students knocking with stones at the locked gate of a Catholic school after they reportedly arrived about a minute late.

According to reports, the school management refused to open the gate after locking it, which led to the students reacting in frustration.

Some schools are very strict with lateness, but this reaction from the students also shows how frustrated they were. 😅

At the same time, throwing stones at the school gate isn’t the best way to handle it. Discipline is important, but situations like this always spark debate about how strict school rules should be. 📚

People should learn to differentiate between Students and Pupils. Where are the Students here?

That uniform is EHJ uniform, isn't it? It is a Catholic school.

Like I said before, schools need to start beating parents. Because why are your kids acting like hooligans. And these are primary school kids.

I thought their policy was to let latecomers in and punish them. That would be better, as it is exam period. Unless parents are abusing that system too.

There should be a 15min grace period after xhich latecomers are either sent back or punished appropriately.

Having the kids bang on the gate with stones is wrong, you're causing property damage.

Like I said, we need to train parents of nowadays. Both Mothers and Fathers need it

Did they truly arrive at a minute past the time? At one minute past the time, the gate would still be open. Considering that they were billed to write their exams, schools tend to be considerate and make allowances for certain little errors. The parents have quickly gone on social media, using reverse psychology to blame the school. Those children probably arrived in school between 8:30 and 9 am. The women perhaps not wanting to be blamed, went on social media and changed the narrative. They are serial late comers.

The parents of the children heaped the psychological problem on their children in the end.
Catholic schools are among the best nationwide, if not the leaders.

By the way, knowing the rules of the school, why not arrange to get to their school in good time. Granted that there are possibilities for some challenges like transportation, late preparation, however, parents must learn to do better.

I am definitely in doubt that the fault is from the school.

They are Nigerians.
They may have been used to coming late and having a way to bypass the system.

Most private schools are avoiding the use cane as a selling point therefore avoiding one of the corrective measures of child behavioral development.Though corporal punishment should be used with moderation but not totally eliminated.

This is very commendable.. lateness is a disease. Wait till they are grown, they'll appreciate this.. imagine arriving late for every coporate meeting even shame go de catch you plus you'll get fired cos no one will ever take you serious or hold you by your word

Everything going wrong on both sides, however I put the blame more on the school, I mean it is exam period and no pupil will deliberately want to go to school late so something should definitely be the reason and besides we are all human, at some point in your life you came late to important events(not excuse for coming late oh) however Naija dey hot, people are going through a lot especially pupils, come on School management, make Una try better

These are kids, pupils. Keeping them locked out when they should be in a secured place is wrong. If you have a policy against lateness, send them home with their parents.

No child should sha be kidnapped for there o. They should better intertwine their discipline with discretion in this scenario.

This still boils down to our old system of education. In the western world, once your kids arrive late, the normal entrance would have been shut while your kids will pass through the reception and you will sign your child in, stating the reason for lateness through a computerised system. The standard of education in Nigeria is too wack and the quality keeps declining everyday. Hardly will you see any public primary and secondary school in Nigeria that can compete with their private counterparts in terms of facilities, exposure, training and quality of personnel. Nigeria govt( both federal and states) don't value education and health and that is why you see the rubbish they allocate as budgets for these two sectors compared to road infrastructure where they can easily siphon public funds.

They're kids and should be thought a lesson on punctuality, they'll grow to appreciate it, and I'm sure they were let in

In as much I support discipline, I hope they is still some sort of security outside the gate to protect these helpless pupils. This is to avoid stories that touch o. Say person pikin late nor mean say make e lost o !

No one yeye Adult dey teach them that unruly behaviour still dey video them ,still post online to gather public sympathy instead of building those innocent kids to be disciplined and responsible.

This is very good. This is what our neighbour always do. She won't get her children ready until 8am everyday. She sleeps like tortoise after watching Zee World till 2am. What do you expect from a GenZ mother who lacks training and discipline herself? You guys should stop being emotional.

This is how they build anger and aggressive behaviour in kids from a young age.

While imbibing punctuality from early age is good, a staff member should be at the gate to explain or lead them to a "detention" room as "punishment" for lateness.

The insecurity alone is a big issue. Some kids come to school on foot and their parents have left home too. Who will they return to?

Even if they are to be sent home, a staff member should be calling their parents/guardians to say so.

Utterly irresponsible. Catholic schools in Italy, Ireland, Spain or any serious country won't try such.

Irresponsible parents making silly video. You definitely took the school and their rules for granted thinking every school is private school where your egos are massaged for profit. Catholic schools have high standard and strict rules for discipline and they don't care who the hell is involved. Change your child to a school where you can bring her to school by 12:30 pm with a pat on both of your backs.

I am sure it wasn't a minute late. Meanwhile parents of this gen Z wanna be era are irresponsible to a very deep fault.

Is good they are locked sometimes because Nigerians takes too many things for granted, i believe the school had told them b4 they enrolled their children there. Its a simple thing, if u ain't comfortable with it, take your kids to a school that allows lateness.
