Parents often come online to blame everyone except themselves for failing in their responsibilities as parents. I believe that before the school made this decision, it must have been discussed at the PTA meeting and agreed that pupils who arrive late should be locked out as a way of sending a message to parents that bringing children late to school wastes valuable learning time.

If you know the time some parents bring their kids to school, you would understand why such measures are taken. However, for the sake of the children, the school should still temper justice with mercy.

Like I said before, schools need to start beating parents. Because why are your kids acting like hooligans. And these are primary school kids.

I thought their policy was to let latecomers in and punish them. That would be better, as it is exam period. Unless parents are abusing that system too.

There should be a 15min grace period after xhich latecomers are either sent back or punished appropriately.

Having the kids bang on the gate with stones is wrong, you're causing property damage.

Don't believe what you see online. I can bet those kids were never a minute late. They must have been much later than that.

For security sake, the school should open their gate, not by force because they have every right not to, but with compassion 🥺knowing fully well how the country is at the moment. Also caution their parents on how serious and strict 😤they are when it comes to being discipline.

You won't sue anybody!
You were given the rules at the point of enrollment,if you know that you won't be able to abide by their rules,then you shouldn't have continued with the enrollment.
Meanwhile,who lock your child outside?
The school or you yourself?
The school locked their gate in their appropriate time, and as at then, your child wasn't at that gate
Then you brought your child late, you noticed that the school gate was locked and there was no staff outside.
You get mind drop your child in front of the locked gate without seeing anybody and left for your business.
If the court you want to rush to ask you you whose care you entrusted your child into,what will you tell the court?

you are right, but if you allow to many grace period it becomes the norm....they would now be asking for grace period inside the grace period....we should learn to be timely and avoid african time traditional and behaviours

Nigeria is gradually becoming the Indiscipline capital of the world yet the citizens are still very entitled.
Government is refusing to put in discipline measures because of elections.

I myself don't think it's lateness. Non payment of school fees seems like a more reasonable option. Because schools don't beat nowadays, they'll send you back home if you don't pay school fees, so the parent and child will sit at home together. So this kids might have come without their parent and weren't allowed in. No school will lock a student paying school fees on time out, they'll just punish or speak to the parent.

These are kids, pupils. Keeping them locked out when they should be in a secured place is wrong. If you have a policy against lateness, send them home with their parents.

Did you see the school stopping them from going home? Can you send home someone you haven't seen nor met?
