Ironfaceman:He took a lot of loans He had people to settle financially He needed his mental health restored to some point ... And you're here with some motivational bull. There are certain things that set people back and you may never understand unless you witness it, or are empathetic to others. Staying back in Nigeria is the best choice he's making now. Going to start another round of loans to fund a travel, will set him back even more. |

This story: was it a true life experience or just a fairy tale? I asked because I am trying to connect some dotted lines from the story. In the first paragraph, OP said he sold everything he had. Reading further, he said he was on a 60k salary, lived in a small self-contained apartment, didn't have a car, etc. So, what was the "everything" he sold? Secondly, as at 2019, N8m was a lot of money! To now hear he used it to process japa to an Asian country?? Hmmm. That amount could conveniently take only you to the UK as at 2019. I know of a close friend who travelled to the UK in 2022 with less than N5m through study route. |

It must have been a very traumatic and difficult phase of your life. You rationally thought and planned for a greener pasture like everyone else in the diaspora, but it wasn't meant to be as in your case. However, downfall of a man is never the end of his life. Arise again and fulfill your dream of making it in life. |

ATIMES, ALL YOU NEED IS JUST HAPPINESS AND NOT TOO MUCH MONEY. IF SOMEONE HAD TOLD HIM TO INVEST THAT 8 MILLION IN NIGERIA, HE WOULD HAVE ACHIEVED MORE THAN HE HAS ACHIEVED TODAY. IMAGINE USING THAT TO GET A TOYOTA HIACE BUS GOING FROM LAGOS TO BENIN, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER BY NOW. WE ALL SHOULD LEARN TO INVEST IN NIGERIA, THERE ARE SECTORS IN NIGERIA THAT WILL GIVE YOU GOOD RETURNS ON YOUR MONEY |

Call me whatever you like, but I won't have 8, 9,10m and above and think of leaving Nigeria. I keep saying this, I love Naija so much that I would rather make money here and only go abroad for holidays and sightseeing. I can only leave Naija now that I haven't make it, but if I am worth above #5m, I won't think of leaving at all. I will continue the hustle that got me #5m in the first place to make it #10m and more. Anything abroad is just to go flex |

Listening to your story is sad. Now I know what God did for me. My case was very easy. I was not even planning or thinking of traveling. Graduated in 2017, was working for myself. My sister who was abroad just called and asked if I was interested in traveling abroad. I reluctantly said yes. Next thing I got admission for a master's programme. Just went for the English exam, travelled to Abuja for visa and medicals. Six months later I'm on a plane. |

Ironfaceman:Many Nigerians abroad are not just posting their lives they are curating them. The snow pictures, the apartment tours, the soft life captions often hide the loneliness, the racism, the visa anxiety, the years of doing survival jobs, and the quiet fear of being sent home. Some amplify the glamour because they need the validation others do it to feel superior to those back home. But their insecurity should never become your compass. The truth is simple not every shining abroad story is real, and not every quiet life in Nigeria is failure. There is dignity in living where you are not a second‑class human, where your progress isn’t controlled by immigration officers, and where your future isn’t held hostage by a resident permit renewal. In your own land, you don’t need to shrink your identity to fit in, or endure subtle humiliation just to survive. Nigeria is hard nobody denies that. But it is also a place where you can build wealth without fighting a system designed to keep you at the bottom. Land, business, networks, community, identity these are resources many Nigerians abroad would give anything to regain. You can grow here without hiding, without pretending, without begging a foreign country to let you stay. So take your eyes off the show-offs and the insecurity-driven I have arrived performances. Focus on building a real life where you stand on your own soil with your full dignity intact. Progress built at home may be slower, but it is solid and it is yours. |

I'm not doubting this story. It happened to someone I know very closely about 18 years ago. He was deported from the US. The CBP said his visit was suspicious as his destination was different from the airline ticket and hotel reservations he was holding. He was detained in a cold cell and deported 2 days later. Luckily for him, he got a schooling visa to one of the leading EU countries, now applied for a vacation as a student on an exchange programme. His visa was approved and he's been to USA like 5 times now. He lives and works in that European country now. Don't give up bro. I was younger when I founded my company. You too can rise, just believe there's a reason for everything. Your story showed you're a child of God. He'll restore you and give you a sense of direction . |

The visa was not the problem, the imiga could easily extend it,however the entry stamp would've superced the visa...as long as the visa was still alive there wouldn't have been an issue if you had enough money and told them you were there for a week or two, also next time don't tell anyone about your plans especially not even your siblings, not everyone laughing is laughing with you, some are laughing at you...some siblings are witches, they can be secretly wishing you evil...some people can spoil things with their thoughts...dust yourself up and start again. |
