It is even more common among those who are ordinary citizens here who relocate never to return again.

There is nothing prestigious again about US/ UK citizenship if your parents or grandparents are migrants even with green cards. US citizenship by birth is on hold and may be cancelled by the US supreme court. Things have changed and reality is that you may have green card yet you are not fully regarded as a US citizen.

There is a semblance of that law in some strategic offices in Nigeria and there is nothing the person can do when invoked against him or her. I recall the case of two sisters who were born in the US, play basketball yet serious problems to get Nigerian citizenship despite both parents being Nigerians by birth.

Even in some states in Nigeria, and some LGA in Lagos, you will not get your letter of indigeneship if your ancestry has been blurred because of long stay overseas.

It is possible in Nigeria. You and your descendants can not stay overseas for multiple generations, contributing nothing to Nigeria and now come to claim citizenship.

All these tax reforms can not be imposed on only Nigerians fulfilling their citizenship obligations. This is why Indians always go back home to marry, have children, religious pilgrimage, cremation, pay taxes, etc.

Italians in diaspora are behaving like unpatriotic Nigerians in diaspora and they should both face same barrier.
Green Card holder is not and was never a citizen.

Citizen by birth on hold? Anyone born in the United States is a citizen. Its in the Constitution and America has not had a constitutional amendment since 1992.

Green Card holder can stay permanently in the US and enjoy privileges citizens have even though on paper they are designated as immigrants.

On birth citizenship, April 1st, 2026 is the hearing date. Save the date

Previously, Italians who moved abroad could pass citizenship to their children as long as they didn’t renounce or lose it, often by acquiring another nationality. What many now see as the country of the “dolce vita” was once an impoverished nation that, between 1861 and 1918, saw 16 million citizens emigrate for a better life.
Japa syndrome that has now cost their descendants to lose Italian citizenship.

Same thing SA is planning to do to the white South Africans that heeded Trump's call to relocate to US and exchange their citizenship for American citizenship.

Our National Assembly must look into these developments and introduce barriers against unpatriotic elements in diaspora.

Your citizenship is an obligation of responsibility and not your right.

Italy and South Africa have made a bold statement. Nigeria should look into reviewing citizenship obligations. Enough of being irresponsible from generation to generations and then come to claim citizenship. That violates the principle of social contract between the state and citizens.
What does bee ln a nigeria gain you huh Useless country , with some cocobut head citizens..

Nigeria will be useless to you even when armed robbers attack you, when you urgently need medical emergency and when you need benefits citizens are entitled to.

When you sow in the land Nigeria, it shall not grow too.

You curse Nigeria, Nigeria curses you back.

Never say never but it is not as issue for Nigeria for now as we don’t have several generations of families moving emass and a lot of unoccupied vacant homes.

We can never have such a law here in Nigeria. Our leaders started it and now we the citizens are also catching up. Majority of them brag of holding British/American Passport.

Italy is a racist country.
Their idea of citizenship is still highly retrogressive when compared to that of their other European neighbours.

Children born to foreigners living in Italy have to wait till they are 18 before they will be considered for citizenship. That's how the likes of Balotelli and Co became Italians. After waiting for 18 years!

You hardly find any western European country that still operates in such opaque ways. Matters are not helped by the fact that the country's politics is dominated by rampaging racists masquerading as "nationalists".
their land their rules you can only cry about it

You are wrong my dear . I have Nigerians ( aside the one on social media) who says Italy is the easiest country in Europe to obtain your papers and or documents. If you say they are racist what then can you say about Germany ?

Modified: most Nigerians will tell you they can’t move to any other countries in Europe that Italy gave them the current life they are living.

And that they will only go to those countries to work and come back home to Italy.

Advantage to Africans who have Italian citizenships.
They will not return to their countries or allow their children return to their countries. In some years, when you talk about Italians, you will see Africans mostly.
unfort for you the indigenous Italians won't let that happen

Cost of benefits are climbing
Some people just sit at home and claim benefits from 2 different countries and don’t have to work
It puts a steer on the economy

2 Thessalonians 3:10-16 KJV (King James Version)

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

Green Card is not forever, its only valid for 10 years and then must be renewed, which can be denied. Conditional Green Card is 2 years.

The Supreme Court does not have the power to amend the constitution. Donald Trump will loose the case.
