I think I have heard before that lecturers in federal universities receive better salaries than their counterparts in private universities, yet na ASUU de go strike pass.

Same thing with doctors, doctors in teaching hospitals receive better pay than private, but most of them gather this salary to japa and are the ones that also go on strike often.

It is when people enter government that they realize that most of the funds available often go into paying salaries of workers who even though each persons own is small, but because of the volume of people on government payroll, it takes a chunk of the money such that very little is left.

Even lamba king allowed doctors and lecturers to be on strike during his failed governorship because he also realiazed that they are always asking for more even though the bulk of the money already goes to them.

How much are Federal Universities paying PhD holders?

I know Unilag should be close to N300k or higher.

I'm surprised because I thought CU would be a very good job. When they first opened, a lot of good Professors were poached from the Federal Universities to teach there.

Any others benefit besides the salary?
Re: Phd Holder Shares Payslip From Time As Covenant University Lecturer by Jman06(m): 12:10pm On Mar 15
This is one reason people don't want to go further and pursue PhDs these days. After all the struggles, sleepless nights and expenses you'll end up getting paid peanuts as salaries whilst those with little to no formal education are earning big.

The motivation to go into academics is not there in this country!

Mumu talk. Oyedepo apologist spotted trying to rationalize the nonsense.

Covenant University can do better. This is just not acceptable.
I normally will not respond to you because seeing your language, I can tell you have not achieved the status of having decent conversation and exchange of messages on the internet. Nevertheless, for those who have the mindset of yours, try to read the non-monetary benefits before arriving at a conclusion. Most of your senators and house of reps members don't earn a great salary but their benefits are something else. If you all target their salaries to come down, they will be happy to make it look like a sacrifice but those who ask questions and think about the big picture know where the money is made from.

Don't just respond to attack, respond to inquire and make sound judgement. Do not bother replying me as I do not have the bandwidth for this. Please consider this my polite withdrawal from the circus.

This is wicked pay, ungodly and devilish in all ramifications. Whoever authorised this payment should seek for God's forgiveness before he or she dies.

Teaching is one of the underrated jobs I Nigeria... they'll keep saying a teacher reward is in heaven. Teach in a private school and see hell, the kids are neither not eager to learn or they're skeptical about the subject. Parents are not helping, school management isn't doing anything it's well.

THIS IS WHY I USUALLY SAY THERE ARE SOME SECTORS IN NIGERIAN ECONOMY THAT PAYS WELL. PEOPLE USUALLY UNDERRATE SUCH SECTORS. EXAMPLE IS THE TRANSPORTATION SECTOR THAT YOU JUST MENTIONED. IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING IN THE INTERSTATE TRANSPORTATION SECTOR, YOU WILL MAKE MORE MONEY THAN 60% OF THOSE ON SUIT AND TIE...

I am not going to defend anyone but I know lecturers get some extra benefits. I am wondering why a lecturer will post his payslip, your personal information to prove what point? Back to the extra benefits, one of them will be housing. I don't know what the accommodation was. Some schools have staff quarters which is housing benefit and when people compare salaries, they forget that part. If you have children, they may go to that school free as a staff.

Their academic calendars typically include long breaks between semesters. Although lecturers still do some work during these periods, they usually have more downtime than many corporate roles. Compared with many private-sector jobs, lecturers may teach only a few hours per week. Much of the rest of the time can be self-scheduled. Outside exam periods, schedules can be relatively flexible.

Lecturers often have access to sports centers, libraries, staff clubs, campus transportation systems and other amenities that are usually free or very inexpensive.

When people compare lecturers’ salaries to private-sector salaries in Nigeria, they often ignore the cost savings from housing, schooling, healthcare, and utilities. Those benefits can reduce major household expenses that private-sector workers typically pay fully out of pocket.
To defend your man of god, you did it poorly.
Very poorly.

You clearly proved that you are not the one that should be pushed forward for the defense of such enterprise when you are clearly ignorant of the working of the system.

You went all about talking about “benefits” that you obviously have no knowledge about and clam that it is worth the poor pay after all.

How many Universities, private or public can boast of staff quarters for thier staff in this present day Nigeria?
I guess you didn’t pass through a good public university.

If you do, you would have known that practically almost all universities, mostly the premiers, have high quality staff quarters and not the one bedroom flat that your papa is giving to PhDs for the acceptance of 130k per month.

You are so so wrong. I work in a private university. Nothing like housing benefit or free education for your kids.

If there is accommodation, you will be charged from your monthly salary. There will be some waiver but it's never tangible enough. So get your facts right

The earnings of pastors are different. These churches keep them at minimum brainly because those pastors get a lot of gifts from the congregation

Furthermore where a job like preaching attract High official salary be sure that too many people will jump that business just for the money
It is what churches are trying to avoid

The present head of the Christian association of Nigeria is the general overseer of Christ holy church. 90% of those church workers don't make up to 50k a bot. In fact the reverends make 35k

The only people who enjoy this country are politicians. They are simply the luckiest creatures on earth. They sit one place, use citizens tax money, natural resources to build wacky roads, get apploaded for and get paid heavily for using our money to build wacky roads. They are even paid for life, taken care of for life for just working for 4 years, their families are made for life. Whoever brought democracy to black man made a mistake.
Na village diety we for dey use allow them swear. These men in pot belly have destroyed our destiny. As i dey type like this, I never see electricity for two weeks. It is mainly 15 minutes of life per week or none at all.
Omo, i fit enter road remove clothes. I am so tired of this hell of a country.

This is largely true, and it's important to state that salaries aren't high in academia. The avenues to "earn well" exist in
- writing and publishing books that SELL
- speaking engagements
- consultancy services, especially for business schools professors, accounting and say agricultural lecturers
- discovering a drug or coming up with an innovative solution that has market needs

Anyone who goes into academia because he or she wants to earn a lot of money is way too naive. Business school grads in their first year of graduation out-earn their professors.

Academia offers job security, not high salaries.

I am not supporting or defending anybody. Let us look at how much his counterparts in other universities were paid in that year.
🤣🤣🤣

So your defense of papa oyedepo is now a matter of “counterparts?”

Okay, let’s do it:

Public universities: PhD and lecturer II - 250k (with the recent increase), PhD lecturer I - 300k, PhD Senior Lecturer - 500k

Private universities (Baze University): PhD lecturer II - 250k (since 2022), PhD lecturer I - 350k, PhD Senior Lecturer - 550k.

So you see that everything about Covenant University was just a hype. But all the same, hypes gives rankings. So, they are winning.
