Re: Phd Holder Shares Payslip From Time As Covenant University Lecturer by mctech(m): 1:16pm On Mar 15
Anyone who believes this is a FOOL.

Firstly, a PhD holder is never a Lecturer 2 but a senior lecturer.

Also, even if the payslip is not doctored, only reason why he may be getting as low as this is loans and several allowances which have been deducted.

Many educated people are not financially smart and sign up for every product and opportunity which their banks and employers throw at them leaving them poor at the end of their careers.

Or perhaps his situation is so pathetic that he had to hide his Master's and PhD and take up an offer that demanded a B. Sc. just to survive.

That's why we always say people should not always see things from the angle of religion. Religion has become a weapon of control and dominance in the hands of man. Let's always be objective and business-like in whatever we do.

What level lecturer was he? Regardless.....he was grossly underpaid.....below standard What makes it worse is free money pours into the university from tithes etc.....in addition to the exorbitant fees. How can it be reasonable .....that a lecturers salary for a semester....is less than the lowest tuition fees of a student? Let's not try to defend greed.

Something to chew on. Tuition fees at Covenant ....and average salary for university lecturers

I am not going to defend anyone but I know lecturers get some extra benefits. I am wondering why a lecturer will post his payslip, your personal information to prove what point? Back to the extra benefits, one of them will be housing. I don't know what the accommodation was. Some schools have staff quarters which is housing benefit and when people compare salaries, they forget that part. If you have children, they may go to that school free as a staff.

Their academic calendars typically include long breaks between semesters. Although lecturers still do some work during these periods, they usually have more downtime than many corporate roles. Compared with many private-sector jobs, lecturers may teach only a few hours per week. Much of the rest of the time can be self-scheduled. Outside exam periods, schedules can be relatively flexible.

Lecturers often have access to sports centers, libraries, staff clubs, campus transportation systems and other amenities that are usually free or very inexpensive.

When people compare lecturers’ salaries to private-sector salaries in Nigeria, they often ignore the cost savings from housing, schooling, healthcare, and utilities. Those benefits can reduce major household expenses that private-sector workers typically pay fully out of pocket.
All these things you said na cover-up for the institution, the salary is too poor abeg.

A PhD on 100k salary Wtf. Is it not better to drive korope.

Daddy Oyedepo if this is true I beg you to reconsider you ways. Remember Jeremiah 22:13
What they do with the money? To build 1m capacity church, to find lifestyle and to leave billions in assets for their pikins, same applies to the other baba on ibadan Expressway with that his son with a big ass like a woman, join with leg from excess weight.

Whether they pay was high or low depends on the period. There was a time that 20 naira was greater than 5 million naira of today.

Toxic and depressed people who look for every slight opportunity to attack their fellow human beings are attacking me as if I said something bad here. I do not have all the day to spend on this forum, that was why I did not pay attention to all the details on the posted pay slip. I simply said that whether the pay was good or poor depends on the period he earned the amount. Why not simply tell me that the pay was in 2024? Why are you quoting and attacking me as if I have said that the pay is good in 2024?
Oga for the last 10 years that salary is nothing for a PhD level person. Don't find excuses or try to reason rubbish, that money is crap for a place like covenant. If a PhD earns that little what then will cleaners etc earn? What that not the organization that gave a staff 30k after 20+ years of service? Church is like police, they only take from you ie it flows one way.

Open your own organisation and pay people first before gaslighting someone else. Here in nigeria everyone feels like a victim. You want to dictate to an entrepreneur what to pay his workers. You should go become one yourself and dictate for yourself what to pay your workers.

So your defense of papa oyedepo is now a matter of “counterparts?”

Okay, let’s do it:

Public universities: PhD and lecturer II - 250k (with the recent increase), PhD lecturer I - 300k, PhD Senior Lecturer - 500k

Private universities (Baze University): PhD lecturer II - 250k (since 2022), PhD lecturer I - 350k, PhD Senior Lecturer - 550k.

So you see that everything about Covenant University was just a hype. But all the same, hypes gives rankings. So, they are winning.
Thank for the info. I don't attend Winners Chapel.

A payslip is more than just a record of salary paid; it is a transparent breakdown of how an employee’s earnings are structured. It clearly shows the basic salary, allowances, and every deduction, from health insurance and housing contributions to pensions, taxes, and other statutory payments.
Organizations that genuinely provide these benefits usually display them proudly on the payslip because it reflects compliance, accountability, and the value they offer their staff. In many ways, the payslip becomes a silent contract, it shows not only what you earn, but also what the employer is truly investing in you.

Don't defend this poor salary pls.

But if the pay was humongous you won't query why he posted his payslip because that would have buttress your view.

A former lecturer of Covenant University, who also has a PhD, has captured people's attention after disclosing the amount he was paid as salary despite his degree and qualifications.

The brilliant individual backed up his claim with a photo, which serves as evidence of the amount he was paid as salary and the specific year

Former Covenant University displays his payslip His statement shows that he currently does not work with the institution, as he referred to the school in the past tense.

@Engrbimmy wrote on his social media page: "I looked at my payslip (with Ph.D) from when I was a Lecturer at Covenant University, and I started crying."

By revealing the amount he was paid in the viral post, many on social media found his statement hard to believe. An individual, @MrPharm_, asked what year the lecturer taught at Covenant University or the year he was paid the said amount he mentioned. To prove his statement is true, @Engrbimmy replied with proof from his PayPal.

A statement to further prove that he received the amount he mentioned as salary in January 2024. Legit.ng reached out to the individual for comments, but he has not responded at the time of writing this report. His post about Covenant University has since gone viral, with many people talking about it online.

I believe this was his pay as a starting GA or something like that. I think I saw Covenant university salary structure for academic staff about 12+ years ago and it was reasonable.
He should clarify his experience and position, the image is not clear.

There's also a chance that he's taking advantage of the schools accommodation for staff.

But the amount on the payslip I'd say is poor

I did not carefully look at the payslip to spot the year. You will be right if you blame me for not paying attention to the details on the pay slip. But my comment is not wrong. I said that whether the payment is poor or high depends on the period. Since he was earning the amount in 2024, the pay was too poor.
That's why it is important to see - read - understand - comment, in that order.

Not the other way round.
