I work in a federal university (a very popular one). The payslip you see up there is genuine, real, and the truth. Federal Universities are a little higher by 3k. So, a Lecturer II earns 136k. As a Lecturer II, I earned 136k. Nothing more, nothing less! For those saying lecturers have other benefits that translate to extra income, you all are jokers o! There's not a penny extra anywhere. At Lecturer l (after 3 years, with more publications) your salary moves to 156k, and after an additional 3 years with more publications (12 minimum) you're promoted to a senior Lecturer and salary moves to 270k or 300k if you've accumulated more years on the previous level. A professors net salary is between 380k - 420k. That's the peak. ASUU has been fighting and trying to educate the public to no avail. The salary is miserable. Anyways, I resigned I happily left the poverty stricken system!

The summary of what you wrote is that just one student’s fee is enough to pay a lecturer for a whole year. That sounds like a good profit margin when you consider the number of students there.

remember that the fees are not going just for.salaires, there's overhead costs, bills, salaries for other cadre of staff and so.forth.

That's why if you are rich, don't set up a university or polytechnic. Set up a primary or secondary school. Not too costly ( unless you want to set up something like Charterhouse in Lagos..the fees there make Oyedepo university fees look like a bargain)

Let’s go by real figures. Publicly available data shows that Covenant university has about 500 Academic staff.
At #170k a monthly, annual salary for each academic staff will be #2.04M

Therefore the total salary for all academic staff is. 500 x #2.04 which is approx #1B yearly

Now, there are about 8000 registered students ( information from public data) paying #1. 5M yearly.
Total revenue is #1.5 m x 8000 = #12B yearly.

Let’s assume they have another 500 non academic staff for a total salary of #1B

What else ? Petrol and diesel ? #1b

Only #3b in expenditures for a revenue of #12B

Oga. I know this is over simplified but these people are making a killing

Feeding and other operations cannot take up to #5b

Let's assume the total lectures in that school are 100 and also that they all earn the same amount, that would be 100m per month. Now add the non academic staff, maintenance of the school environment, internet subscription, payment for journals, foreign travels by lecturers etc. How much do you think the students needs to pay to cover that or where should the school get money to run the school from? Secondly his salary was about 170k after deduction as a lecturer 2.
Also remember he was presented with the offer before he became a lecturer there.

Seems we are in the era of bring down oyedepo by the apc agents...

As of 2024 some banks were already paying ND and NCE holder over 200k. Imagine somebody with PhD earning less than ND and NCE holder. Modern day slavery is worse than the once our forefathers experienced

This thread is an eye opener to say the least, from the comments you can glean a thing or two from Nigerian private sector and most importantly the welfare of staff working in private universities.

Some banks outsourced staff are even paid higher than this and most of this banks employ ND holders for such cadre of staff, it's saddening to say the least.

Na why I say Una dey enjoy for that Lagos. Lagos and Delta state civil service pays well. All other states uses similar structure. As meagre as my state pay is, it actually pay better/higher than most states.......

And also, it is this new govt that came to push salary upward, so, those just entering the service now have an advantage. By the time dem don spend 10 years, dem go don see wetin their salary don do. Those of us that entered during GEJ tenure...... nothing for us jare......

....but then, Civil Service work dey give person time.... And any man that has time to his advantage has gotten everything ---- EVERYTHING

Worked as a bursar at KHMS kaduna some few years back and I was paid 14k per month as salary…. Worked 2 months and left immediately

He's using most of their salary to build the biggest church in the world that will help rake in billions every year while telling his members that their rewards are in heaven.

The earnings of pastors are different. These churches keep them at minimum brainly because those pastors get a lot of gifts from the congregation

Furthermore where a job like preaching attract High official salary be sure that too many people will jump that business just for the money

The present head of the Christian association of Nigeria is the general overseer of Christ holy church. 90% of those church workers don't make up to 50k a bot. In fact the reverends make 35k

What about non academic staff, university facilites that need to be expanded and improved, student housing costs, taxes, power and other utility bills, transport bills, etc etc etc.

Plus staff salaries have to rise eventually.
