I do not understand how any Nigerian go dey gloat and post the war with glee when the same war is making life more difficult and draining our pockets. I mean, there is absolutely nothing to gloat about in this Israel/America-Iran war. Israelis don kpai. Americans don kpai. Iranians don kpai. Many on both sides dey wounded. Even the gulf countries wey no dey directly involved don lose people. Properties have been bombed and left in ruins. Schools and whole neighbourhoods have been reduced to rubble. Investments have been wiped out overnight. Businesses shut down. Airports closed. Oil facilities hit Families have lost fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and children. Some of the people killed no even get anything to do with the fighting. Even for Nigeria, things don red and we dey feel am. Fuel don enter 1500. Transportation don go up. Bolt and Uber fares don jump. Interstate transport companies don adjust prices. If they haven't already, airlines sef go do upward review of ticket prices. Cooking gas don enter 1200/kg for my side. Kilo of beef, 8000. Goat meat, 9000. It used to be 6500 and 7500 before. Bukas and small restaurants go adjust their prices and portions too. Commodities and FMCGs dey add money like garri wey soak for water. Rice, bread, noodles, vegetable oil. Everything dey creep up small small. This war is in the middle east but the shockwaves dey reverberate all the way in Nigeria. and it's draining pockets. I do not care for Trump, Netanyahu or Ayatollah. My own be say make the war end so things fit return to normal. |

semid4lyfe:Everywhere rough no be lie. Things are expensive see it as banter nothing more. I'm not pro war or death/destruction of properties & asset. Don't blame anybody but your government. This is the right time for us to cash out via oil revenue/sale. Russia is making almost 150m dollar per day in oil/gas revenue because of this war. Why is our own different? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:53pm On Mar 16 |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:I listened to a radio program this morning and their analyst gave some pointers as to why we are not making a kill with oil/gas revenue this period. All the oil exploration/drilling we do in Nigeria is not done by the Nigerian government; they are all done by Joint Venture. These JV agreement are as a result of Nigeria not having the equipment/expertise/capacity to drill oil by ourselves 65 years after independence. We rely on these JV agreement that lets Multinationals like Exxon Mobil, Shell,Total, Chevron, etc to drill the crude and then get as much as 30% to 40% of proceeds from the drilled crude. So when an IOC like Shell drills a well, pumps crude out and the crude gets sold, they may get as much as 30% of the revenue depending on the terms of the JV agreement between Shell and NNPC. When we now factor-in those forward contracts Buhari signed off during his tenure (Yes, the ones he signed off on that allowed him get loans from foreign institutions and pledged proceeds of crude that is yet to be drilled as repayment method), then you know it's almost impossible for us to experience any significant rise in oil revenue. People don't know the level of damage Buhari's administration did to this country within 8 years. On the other hand, countries like Russia have a government owned oil company that drills Russian oil solely for the full benefit of the country. I think Rosneft is their official government's oil company and Gazprom is the one for gas. These companies are what our own NNPC should be (Not having to defer to IOCs like Shell, Chevron, etc for exploration and production of oil and gas via JV ), but sadly that is not the case. A lot of things no just dey right for this country. Unfortunately, even people who know just gloss over it and resign to fate. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 3:58pm On Mar 16 |
semid4lyfe:Why? The cost of PMS hasn't increased in Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia or Qatar which are being hit and are oil-producing countries like us. Nigeria is thousands of miles away, produces its own petroleum and gave some sort of monopoly to one man as the largest refinery in the world, which the current administration likes to brag is due to its favour business policy and celebrated with pomp and fanfare. Netanyahu, Trump and our very own Okpatollah aren't the reason this country doesn't have other functional refineries or the functional one we have which gets crude from local sources ramped up petroleum products cost arbitrarily. The Iran War isn't the reason Nigeria's FCCPC and other price regulatory bodies spiked prices. The missiles flying in the Middle East isn't the reason why if you drive down the road in your area this evening, you'll find 7 different fueling stations selling petrol at different prices and state government price control boards aren't enforcing anything because most of the fueling stations are owned by those in the corridors of power. Is the Iran War the reason the woman on your street corner selling at the fruit mart pegging mangoes and oranges for double the prices she sold just one month ago? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 4:03pm On Mar 16 |
This is the FCCPC X page. https://x.com/fccpcnigeria Go down its posts if you'll see it sanction any organisation for arbitrarily increasing prices since last year. The last one it did was at a supermarket in Lagos in mid last year and that was performative because of the uproar on social media as nothing came out of it. Everyone is taking advantage of the broken system. It's not the Iran War. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by OkpaNsukkaisBae(m): 4:25pm On Mar 16 |
BlueRayDick:I agree. Those radio guest/analyst dey very very correct. But at the bolded where is where I disagree with him, him thinking that after 65years that we don't have the technical capability or funds to buy those equipments and do the exploration/drilling by ourselves. I dey talk am since but una go think say na because I hate the West. That thing is a colonial agreement imposed on us. It will continue to be like that. Any day any government say we don get plenty petrol-chemical engineers, that will can handle it by ourselves. Dem go remind us that our government does not respect fundamental human rights, that election is not free and fair thus justifying the Maduro treatment on the government. If the government challenge dem, dem go put bounty on dem, tag dem as terrorists. As bad Buhari was, the economy was far better under him. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 4:55pm On Mar 16 |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:This actually has nothing to do with anything being imposed on us by any western government. These are just purely commercial agreeements. Oil exploration is capital intensive; one of the advantages of JV agreements is that it allows for costs to be shared between NNPC and the JV operator like Shell, Chevron, etc. Maybe because I used the example of Russia , you think it's our friendliness with the West that made us have the JV agreements "imposed" on us. Not so at all. Countries like Saudi Arabia has Aramco , The Qataris have their own government owned oil companies who do exploration , production, refining and sale of crude by themselves without having JV agreement with any western owned country despite being friendly to the West. The thing is, Nigeria has been used to not planning for the future and always living in the now. We've not really been blessed with nationalists and visionaries as leaders. If not, we should have built capacity over the years and there's nothing any western or eastern nation would do to us if we decide to take charge of our own oil and gas by ourselves. We would just be selling to any willing buyer and making the most from our oil and gas deals without having anything leak to any foreign private owned company. This is not about geopolitics or pro/anti-west agenda; it's just a pointer to our failure as a country. |

On August 29, 2025, a sum of N5.578 million was paid into his personal account with the description, “August 2025 Salary Ajaokuta Steel Company.”Nigeria has a serious spending and deliberate wastefulness problem. Ajaokuta Steel Mill has not worked since God knows when, yet we are told the person heading the Moribund steel mill takes home over N5m as monthly salary. Now FG has budgeted N6.69 billion for the Steel mill in 2026 budget and about N6.04 billion of it will be used to pay salaries of staff of an organization that produces nothing. They are literally fettering away funds that should be put to productive use in other sectors of the economy while the assets of the steel mill continue to depreciate in value.

BlueRayDick:If you know the terms and conditions wey the Americans put on Gulf Arab countries.. U go know say Naija own na small thing. All of us dey here when IDF bombed Qatar. Qatar have American patriot air defense/THAAD system, none of dem was activated because it the Americans who operate them. If you think that giving away 30-40% of oil revenue is simply because we don't plan for the future or don't have visionary leadership. That's your opinion. Our people talk say that; A man who does not know where the rain began to beat him cannot know where he dried his body. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 5:40pm On Mar 16 |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:You are conflating two different issues . Joint Venture agreements are normal commercial agreements. If tomorrow comes and NNPC wants to start running the show from A to Z after the expiration of the current agreements they have with the different IOCs, nothing stops them from doing so. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by semid4lyfe(m): 6:35pm On Mar 16*. Modified: 7:16pm On Mar 16 |
DissTroy:Baba, you are normally spot on with your analysis but on this one.your brain don waka go sabbatical. Crude is an internationally priced commodity and the global oil market sets the price. And since the Iran war began, the prize of crude has jumped from $60 per barrel to over $100 per barrel. Shipping routes have been disrupted. Supply don diminish and crude no surplus like before. Freight and insurance of vessels sef add money. So the price don go up everywhere. America produces over 20 million barrels of crude oil per day and even refines locally, yet even them don increase their pump price since the Iran war began. Americans are all over social media complaining about the cost of fuel and the other day we saw Korra Obidi post a video complaining about buying fuel more expensive due to the Iran war. It's also the reason Donald Trump has being para-ing, daring and threatening Iran not to close the Hormuz Strait. Because 20% of the world supply passes through that route, and if that route is disrupted, iit would exacerbate the situation in America which would affect him politically too. Another point. The price of refined fuel always mirrors that of crude. If crude goes up, PMS, diesel, aviation fuel and all other derivatives sef go get erection. Nigeria case get k-leg. Dangote is the only local player and the FG only supplies about 30% of his crude requirement. Even at that, Dangote pays in Naira at the international benchmarked crude price, and this has increased from $60 before the war to over $100 now. So naturally, the price of Dangote fuel go increase. The other importers and independent marketers sef no get choice but to increase their prices because no be wetin dem dey buy PMS before, dem still dey buy am. Now, Nigeria is a fuel-dependent country and fuel is the lifeline of our economy. So when fuel goes up, every other thing go follow....transport. commodities, farm produce, groceries and FMCGs, cost of doing business, services, everything. It was inevitable that the local fuel price will increase with the Iran war. The only way it wouldn't have was if govt paid subsidy. I rest my fingers. |
