Hope you are not one of those that rush to buy cheap Nigerian used cars. A cheap Nigerian used car will give you problem

If you see a Nigerian used Toyota corolla 2005 at N3m on Facebook, that's a red flag

I recently bought a Toyota Corolla 2005 model, Nigerian used. Since then I've had this constant problem of hard starting. It's not very bad though, it picks after second or third kick, although in some cases it could be worse prompting my battery to run down.

I have explained the issue to about 4 mechanics, each of them telling me what they suspected could be the cause, I paid them and at the end of the day, nothing changed. I've spent over 300k on this very issue.

The only option I'm considering now is that of the latest mechanic that told me it could be fuel pump system pressure or electrical fault or both. I'm just afraid of spending money again because I'm already afraid it may not work.
So NL family, have your car ever had this "spiritual hard starting" problem? And how did u get out of it?
I am not a mechanic,.. but gifted..

The issue here is either using the wrong kick starter or worn out kicks..

Check your Spark plugs ,

Check airflow, incase it's carbonized or blocked

Check fuel pumps

Check your engine oil

This are major factors..,

You didn't tell Nigerians how much you brought the Car and the Day you start experience this issues..

Did you not Test the Car....?

Stop selling us Nigerians so cheap online..

We still have sincere people outder

2005 corrolla: that is a easy to fix car, and I am certain that you are not giving the car to the right people for repairs.

That 300k is far more that enough to fix whatever the issue with that car may be, if you are dealing with the right people.

First of all, that hard starting problem should be checked by a rewire and not a mechanic. A good rewire will diagnose and tell you what the problem is among the following:
1. Bad spark plug/s
2. Bad coil wire/s
3. Malfunctioning nozzle/s
4. Damaged valves
5. Weak kick starter.
5. Dieing fuel pump.
I suspect it is hard cold start. Bad fuel pump is the issue.

Get your care scanned by a competent technician. Don't do trial and error.
Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by oyeb15: 1:38pm On Mar 16
It's bad ignition coil or sensor .

For now,buy new battery.
Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by MemoriesAndMe: 1:46pm On Mar 16
Issues like that usually brings up check engine lights on cars. Take the car for diagnosis, or better still test it yourself with an OBD tester and the check engine light codes will be provided to you. You can then search online for the meaning of the codes, that way you know the exact fault and won't keep spending unnecessarily.

This guy here said he has spent up to 300k on the car. Obviously he had change fuel pump or plugs, coil, wiring etc but still the car is still giving him trouble. Bro, what I will advise u to do is to buy half and top engine Japan or America, no buy Taiwan oo. The problem may be from top gasket. And also change ur kick starter and fuse box

Fuel pump. Kickstarter. Check those out. My 2006 Toyota Corolla has been excellent.....and it was Nigeria used.
Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by McLizbae: 2:28pm On Mar 16
From experience, DTC may even complicate diagnostics. For instance, I once dealt with with P219a. Normally that should be O2 sensor issues. But at the end of the day, the o2 sensor is absolutely fine, and the problem was from an underperforming spark plug. This was detected by a good rewire.

Ha, you wan kill the man finish.
Why not just tell him to run diagnostics to get to the root of the problem....if that has not been wrecked as well.

I have learnt through experience that it's better to spend your money by taking your car to a computer diagnostic mechanic station. They'll run a computerized scan and diagnose the exact problem. You pay good money but it's gonna be worth it and save you unnecessary waste.

If you have tried the spark plugs and fuel pump and you still have the same issue, them it might be the key sensor is not compatible with the brain box.

Hence, you need to change the security key

Tell your electrician (rewire) to check your cold start....been there back in the day😎

If that doesn't work, then tell him to check the wire connecting the fuel pump to the engine console.

Pls go to a good "rewire"

Buy a Scanner and scan the vehicle, if it is electrical, you could see communication errors, diagnosis is what you should be looking to do now

To find the problem you must start from the easiest.Look at the kickstarter first then dive into others..

Hard starting, it might be from the brainblox,or wrong fuel pump wiring. Open the fuel tank fron inside. Remove the back seat lower, take it off,ud see the small fuel tank enclosure cover, remove it,pry the return inside, slang gently till u disconnect the hose and casing. Look inside the fuel tank, what do u see, look at the casing wiring and check for any modifications or repairs, wrong wiring, loose wiring, check the fuel pump filter, should be goldfish cream or white,if its black dirty and blocked then ud found 1 of the culprits..pls for now don't allow any baztad go to starter, fusebox, brainbox, alternator, battery, etc. Abeg first do what I said and get back to me. So we can take it
I will take this comment to the technician. It's my first car, so I don't really know how to do this but thank you so much

How can I get it and how does it work?
ALOBAM:
If four mechanics couldn't find a vacuum leak or a failing check valve with 300k, they weren't fixing a car, they were funding their own kids' school fees. Before you let "Mechanic No. 5" guess his way through your remaining savings, get a basic OBD2 scanner.
