No More VIP Privileges At Airport Tollgates - Keyamo by AnonPoet(op): 7:01am On Mar 17
- "Half Our Revenue Lost to 'Big Men' in Abuja"

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has declared an end to VIP privileges at airport access gates under the reinstated cashless/hybrid payment policy. "We must not do VIP here again because half of our revenue goes to VIP. Everybody is a big man in Abuja, that's the problem. There's hardly anybody you see in Abuja who doesn’t have FG printed on their business card, whether SA, SSA, or SSTTA.

“There is no going back on the cashless system. For those who think they can frustrate the cashless system because they prefer the traditional cash collection method, we have passed that stage. In fact, there is a federal government directive on it saying that no federal agency should ever collect cash. So we have very limited time to do this hybrid system.

“We are going to go cashless. In fact, at the last Federal Executive Council meeting, Mr. President gave me a deadline. He was very clear that I have a deadline. He said, Minister of Aviation, you have a deadline to go fully cashless and the moment Mr. President pushes me, I will also push those under me.

“Before Mr. President sacks me, I will sack other people too. I will sack other people too. Before now, I left implementation fully to FAAN and the nitty-gritties were worked out by FAAN, but as the Minister, I take full responsibility and I have to take full control.

“I would not leave my fate in the hands of any other person and that is why I am here today to take my own fate into my hands and see how they are implementing the hybrid system but this will not last.”

He disclosed this while conducting an on-site evaluation of the hybrid payment system's implementation at the tollgate of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. This comes after President Bola Tinubu decided to halt the cashless policy.

Institutional corruption need to be weeded out of our system if we want to progress as a nation. The Minister should do everything within his power to see to the implementation of this project.

With the advent of neo banks like opay/palmpay and faster payment channels, why would anyone still choose the cash based system that is so backward??
Re: No More VIP Privileges At Airport Tollgates - Keyamo by Lanruze: 7:13am On Mar 17
Dear Festus Keyamo,

You are saying this for the third time in less than six (6) months.

Away with the rhetorics and get to work.

Let the minister small convoy stop disturbing everyone with siren when passing.

A whole Abia state Governor does put that noisy sound when passing the street to anywhere.

They should leave that sound for the President and emergency services.

These ministers, Aviation, Education and Interior, are working far better than Wiked man of Rivers.

His own is to position himself in area, vwhere there will be endless raining of Naira and spend little before he rushes to the media to hype himself.
Re: No More VIP Privileges At Airport Tollgates - Keyamo by israelmao(m): 7:51am On Mar 17
Those that will man or be on the duty at the airport tollgates are they from another planet? The VIP will induce them apart from snobbish awe that will engulf them.If we are ready for the real change in Nigeria it begins from allowing people to willingly choose their president.

Re: No More VIP Privileges At Airport Tollgates - Keyamo by Reference(m): 7:57am On Mar 17
The problem with this airport issue from the Abuja standpoint is that of capacity. The Metrolink to the airport is not very functional (don't know whether it is working at the moment)

The practical, main alternative is to journey to and fro by automobile. FAAN knows this and has exploited it to the maximum having two tolls you pay, one for entry, the other for parking. This is exploitative.

No one wants to go spend time at the airport racking up parking bills so people cut it close arriving just in time to depart and pick up. But with the problems of delayed flight in the industry the airports nonetheless are always overfilled with cars.

This puts enormous pressure on any cashless system at the entry and exit points. So the Minister should liase with Abuja Metro to getting the shuttle train running and more efficiently. It can then share revenues with them. Just my two cents.

The fuel I burn to that airport every month is upsetting. The place is damn too far.

VIP treatment is one of the ways corruption and indiscipline are perpetuated in the Nigerian psyche.

Which one is VIP privileges? How does it work for the tollgate?
Re: No More VIP Privileges At Airport Tollgates - Keyamo by yorosstores: 8:33am On Mar 17
To grow as a nation we have to treat people equally. The minister is right especially in Abuja, everybody is VIP, they claim privileges and avoid making statutory payments.

If everyone is treated equally, services will improve because you don't know who is who.

Well-done minister

Please God, just try and help this country called Nigeria. Some of the citizens are trying fervently to make her great while some criminal among the citizens are also using all their efforts to pull her down. Please God hear my prayer 🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌 Amen.....

Nothing wrong with cash. In most countries they still make use of cash. Nigeria own is just corruption because people are not appointed base on merit but by party loyalists, connections and kickbacks
