Public schools in Lagos prove their worth by outperforming private school counterparts

This thing has been happening since 1900, so it’s nothing new. We’ve always had our debates, quizzes, and spelling bees to test who is who.

if you want the best training for your kids in this Lagos, the "cheat code" is simple: start them in a solid private primary school to get that foundation, then move them to a public secondary school.

People might talk down on government schools, but have you seen their WAEC results lately? They are acing those exams back-to-back. Forget the "prestige" or public criticism—for me, public schools still remain the best for building both brains and ruggedness. No cap!

Properly funded ones. Even better funded than private.

Ruggedness that will rob you of your brain for life. The brain is like a scale, it cannot weight itself accurate or wholly at any instant in time.

Omo, fallacies everywhere! 🤦‍♂️ Go and check all those one-day governors of Lagos State. Many of these public school students are actually way sharper than private school kids intellectually.

Being book-smart without being "street-smart" is a total waste of time. To navigate this life, you need that street sense way more than any academic certificate. That’s one lesson I learned the hard way. Even some people who were "dullards" back in school are doing far better today than the so-called scholars.

Abeg, never underestimate the power of street smartness. It's the real deal.

The best in public schools in Lagos have always been way ahead of the best in private schools in Lagos.

Private schools breed more of above average students while public schools are fortunate to have a few best brains in a class and the rest are just deliquents. Unfortunately, just like in Nigeria, the delinquents are the most visible.

That's how it has always been.

Amen! 🙏😂 Who go come take your own life? LMAO 🤣 Yen yen yen... By the way, who won One-Day Governor this year and last year? And from which school?

Public school students are actually getting better because some of these schools are better equipped with libraries and proper labs. I guess you’re referring to the ones in your village. Even the best private school in your village can’t keep up with the standards of the poorest community school in Ikeja! 😂

It's even a disgrace that public schools are not the standards and a bigger disgrace that those who benefitted from free education in the past have made things worse. One thing she said that caught my attention was how the person looked down on her upon hearing the location of the school. It wasn't Vetland, it was because they heard Agege. From an early age, Nigerians learn how to oppress and not be proud of who they are and what they have. Do you know I once saw the Agege Motor road on a museum abroad? Yes, with those yellow danfo buses that the Lagos State Government wants to take out for a version of their own artificial city like Dubai? The way we are impressed by foreign things and want to live a foreign life must be studied by the education ministry so they can curb this mindset from an early age.

Edit: about the Agege motor road seen abroad. Is it wrong for Lagos state to phase them out? Not necessarily. The state wants to have proper buses for Lagosians but Nigeria's biggest challenge is still corruption because some certain individuals want to control everything so they don't give it out to the regular person. What they do is destroy what the common man has and empower their own to control the money. We saw the example with the taxi business owned by the Bangladeshi guy who was killed in NYC. What that painting did was to remind you of the identity of a people. You know once you see yellow and black stripes, this is Lagos. That is identity but our leaders don't know who they are so little things like that don't matter. They want to repost what they have seen abroad without regard to their own identity. I cannot still forget that Governor Ambode once said in public that he will make Lagos a Dubai. If the number 1 can say that, what do you expect from the people working with him? The last Governor who showed that he knew the identity of his state in recent times was Fashola. The same people who looked down on danfo buses in Lagos will go to that foreign country and embrace it because they can see their country thetr. Again, why do we wait for foreign people to take what we don't value then when we see it with them, we now become proud of it? Is this why we want the Grammys, Oscars and everything that does not belong to us?

Proudly Agege 🇳🇬 Eko ò ní bà jẹ́
