The second mechanic said something about possible overheating before and coolant related stuffs. He charged me, and he did his thing and the issue is still there
Heffalump:
"Spiritual hard starting" ...lol.
There is nothing spiritual here, man. A bad fuel pump can cause that shit too. You didn't tell us what exactly you did that amounted to the 300k, so I'm restricted to offer any other advice really. However, the ignition coils and plugs can be culpable sometimes. If the previous owner has removed the engine coolant thermostat prior, please replace it asap. Some Nigerian mechanics can offer very bad advice sometimes. If you notice overheating, look at the fans and radiator performance.

In your mind it's spiritual and your village people are after you. If you want don't leave kazim and Co. Go scan your car dude.

I recently bought a Toyota Corolla 2005 model, Nigerian used. Since then I've had this constant problem of hard starting. It's not very bad though, it picks after second or third kick, although in some cases it could be worse prompting my battery to run down.

I have explained the issue to about 4 mechanics, each of them telling me what they suspected could be the cause, I paid them and at the end of the day, nothing changed. I've spent over 300k on this very issue.

The only option I'm considering now is that of the latest mechanic that told me it could be fuel pump system pressure or electrical fault or both. I'm just afraid of spending money again because I'm already afraid it may not work.
So NL family, have your car ever had this "spiritual hard starting" problem? And how did u get out of it?
Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by Mikesol: 4:53pm On Mar 16
I feel as if your camshaft sensor is bad, usually it controls ignition and timing
It is the safest bet, also try to scan the vehicle.
Change the camshaft, and the crankshaft sensors, they're not expensive
Then also check your fuel pump, although i doubt cause it eventually starts and there will be signs of a bad fuel pump..

Change those sensors first as it could be that it's affecting proper timing for starting and movement

Let your mechanic change the electrical thermostat with a new one and see...it's at the top right side of the engine top...

When I was driven by my own car about 15 years ago, I bought an autel diagnostic scanner. It has saved me and few others from try and error.

Reference:
Ha, you wan kill the man finish.
Why not just tell him to run diagnostics to get to the root of the problem....if that has not been wrecked as well.

Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by gly2ken: 6:52pm On Mar 16
The fuel pump in your car is most likely not meant for your car. Nigeria mechanics feel that the big, the strong, the better. However, they don't consider if the voltage that gets to the appliance will be able to power the bigger appliance. I am facing the same hard starting which I have traced to the bigger pump that my mechanic used to replace the smaller pump. I will replace it with the original size. My car is corolla 2009.

Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by SeriouslySense(m): 7:31pm On Mar 16
It could be any of these, when it happened to us, it was due to the kick starter, it was an easy fix for the mechanic.

We had to get another one.

McLizbae:
2005 corrolla: that is a easy to fix car, and I am certain that you are not giving the car to the right people for repairs.

That 300k is far more that enough to fix whatever the issue with that car may be, if you are dealing with the right people.

First of all, that hard starting problem should be checked by a rewire and not a mechanic. A good rewire will diagnose and tell you what the problem is among the following:
1. Bad spark plug/s
2. Bad coil wire/s
3. Malfunctioning nozzle/s
4. Damaged valves
5. Weak kick starter.
5. Dieing fuel pump.
Re: My Nigeria Used Car Wants To Take My Life by nedekid: 9:21pm On Mar 16
Maybe you should diagnose the moto.

So no one can actually buy a new car in nigeria!
I want to understand something.
Buy new car, lol, maybe 0.5% of Nigerians can afford to buy a brand new car. It is so bad that people no longer know what is brand new, someone will buy 2010 car and all sorts of nylons will be on the chairs, they call them brand new. Lol, let's give thanks to Tinubu and APC for making Nigerian dirt poor. Crazy thing is that the same Nigerians still want him to continue for life, people like yerimo etc Ask him, his sons mate abroad will work and ride the type of car his baba will collect 30k for 10 years but cannot buy the Tyre, but same niggar will rather face Peter Obi than the baba who had immersed him and other Nigerians in poverty. Korope is now 4.3m for manual and 3.9 for automatic, people never buy that one na brand new car them one buy?

Bro, stop wasting your money!

1...Make sure the thermostat is in there, installed, NOT removed. If you want to know if the thermostat is removed or bypassed just scoop from your exhaust for presence of black soot.

2...Oga, make sure the correct engine oil is in the engine! Don't use anyhow engine oil. Check the engine oil cap for the right viscosity....most likely SAE 5W-30 viscosity motor oil.

You are welcome.

2 Posible things that can cause that had starting could be 1. Cold start census or wrong timing. How to check weal fuel pump, open the return host and see how the fuel returns to the task.

I believe it’s the brain box. Go for scanning. I had the same issue with my Honda evil spirit

Sometimes it takes 4-5 tries before you can get a working brain box that matches your car

Check your key sensor maybe the casing isn't intact thereby making the sensor to shift, which prevent the car from starting..

What you'll do is, whenever you put the keg in the ignition and the security light stops blinking, it shows the sensor is in good position but if it doesn't, the sensor has shifted and there's no way that car would start....

Sorry about your problem brother. From my personal experience, check the fuel pump system and the kick starter.
But I'll advice you to scan the vehicle properly first before taking any further action. If you still need a scanner to DIY, you can send me a DM. I do sell OBD2 scanners. Otherwise, take it to a good rewire. Ask for recommendations within your city. I'm sure there'll be at least one good rewire that can help you scan and solve your issue.
