Nigeria ₦1,200 – ₦1,330 ~$0.80 – $0.85 Angola 300 AOA ~$0.33 Key Differences Angola: Prices have remained remarkably stable. The government continues to use managed pricing and domestic production to keep costs among the lowest in Africa. As of March 9, 2026, Angola is ranked as having the 2nd cheapest fuel on the continent. Nigeria: Prices are currently volatile due to full deregulation and the removal of subsidies. In March 2026, pump prices jumped significantly following price hikes from the Dangote Refinery (reaching ₦1,175/litre ex-depot) and a surge in global crude prices linked to Middle East tensions. Retail prices in cities like Abuja and Lagos now frequently exceed ₦1,250/litre. The Bottom Line Petrol in Nigeria is currently more than 2.5 times more expensive than in Angola. While both are major oil producers, Angola’s heavy subsidization keeps its retail price near the bottom of global rankings, whereas Nigeria’s market-driven approach reflects international crude fluctuations more directly. |

This is the only country they should be comparing Nigeria with. A lot of my Togo artisans left Nigeria to this country and today they are all doing great. I wonder why Nigeria is not selling crude to Dangote at off OPEC sales. |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by lawani(m): 6:03pm On Mar 18 |
Macphenson:They can't sell crude at below market rates as that would be subsidy and who told you they are selling crude at below market rates to the Angolan refinery? |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by sweerychick(f): 6:07pm On Mar 18 |
This is the real comparison that makes sense, and supposed to be worthy of frontpage, not some ragtag useless comparisons with other African nations that don't even produce crude oil like Nigeria or as wealthy as Nigeria. |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Thedon22: 6:13pm On Mar 18 |
If you want to do comparative analysis in Africa present at least 10 countries with highest production in Africa. Not taking 1 country in Africa and comparing with Nigeria. How much is fuel in Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Egypt etc. What you have just done is academic laziness, not reliable comparison. Unless maybe you are a politically biased commenter. |

| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by emiye(m): 7:41pm On Mar 18 |
Angola population is 38 million( lagos + ogun state population) vs Nigeria's population of 250 million. It is cheaper to subsidise as they produce almost the same amount of crude oil daily with Nigeria. |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Gadafii: 7:47pm On Mar 18 |
Nigerians are not benefiting anything from Nigeria as citizens because if wicked and selfish leaders like tinubu and Buhari, (may he never rest peacefully btw) Because tell me why Nigeria, an oil producing country is suffering like this?? |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Dotherightthing: 8:21pm On Mar 18 |
When will dullards stop quoting NGN70,000 as minimum wage for chrissake ![]() Even corpers who are not expected to own vehicles earn NGN77,000 and they get other reasonable stipends from the PPA and some state governments. NGN70,000 is the basic salary NOT the take home package of the least paid federal civil servant. Private sector pays far more. Nigerians NEVER rely on their salaries alone. |

Dotherightthing:Which private sector. Do private school teachers earn 70k a month talkless of allowance. Do road cleaners, private security guard, earn 70k a month. In between how many people do organised private sector employ. Let take zenith bank. The financial statement shows they employ 7305 staff. Now assume there are 20 banks like zenith. That means roughly 150k staff in a country with 130 million labour force. Do you know any manufacturing outfit employing up to 5k staff |

| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Kukutente23: 10:50pm On Mar 18 |
Dotherightthing:How many states pay corpers in Nigeria There are still Nigerians that earn below 70k 70k minimum wage law is only for medium and large scale companies. SMEs are not bound to implement 70k and we all know that the largest majority of Nigerians work with SMEs |

| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Sheuns(m): 1:14am On Mar 19 |
lawani:Stop this dead narrative. The federal government spends $0 in producing crude oil. They secure no production costs. Why can’t they set aside the amount required for local consumption and sell at below international market price to Dangote? Tell us why. |

The war is not affecting Angola oo Na only Nigeria e affect. ![]() Even Botswana is stable with their prices. Only giant of Africa dey punish her citizens and the so called citizens are explaining it away. |

Lithiumite:And what have you done with the funds? |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Lithiumite: 6:26am On Mar 19 |
ZombieDredd:What were you expecting the funds be done with......the increased allocations to your state where did you think the money is coming from, your foreign reserve, debt servicing obligations, all those road projects......the minimum wage increment, nelfund etc where do you think all that money is coming from......need I also remind you that the salaries of military men was just increased,a private, the least rank would now be earning about 300k monthly as againstvthe paltry 85k before ......if subsidy wasn't removed much of this might not have been possible.....if subsidy were to continue the givt would have had no choice but to tax heavily that everyone would have been crying so much. |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by lawani(m): 6:36am On Mar 19 |
Sheuns:Because it will amount to subsidy and subsidy has ended. The US is producing oil too and is not selling it cheaper at home. We don't need awoof. It benefits no one in the long run. Ask for any other thing but not oil awoof. If a small nation like Norway that produces as much oil as Nigeria is not doing subsidy, don't you think it is shameful for Nigeria of 220 million to be doing such? |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by lawani(m): 6:42am On Mar 19 |
If you want cheap pms in Nigeria then Dangote have to sell majority of the stake of his refinery to investors. If he is controlling that refinery then he must pay high interests on loans and we will pay double of what we should pay because of that just like is the case in the cement industry. That is just the fact. In the next one hundred years we will still be paying double if the ownership structure of the refinery does not change. Remember cement is less than 2000 naira in many countries with even higher wages than Nigeria. It is because of the same reason |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Kukutente23: 7:02am On Mar 19 |
Lithiumite:Increased allocation has more to do with naira devaluation and increase in VAT than subsidy removal Are you saying Nigeria was not servicing debts or increasing wages of workers before subsidy removal? Are you saying Nigeria was not building roads before subsidy removal? You've not been able to mention any tangible benefit of subsidy removal |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Kukutente23: 7:05am On Mar 19 |
lawani:Since Norway is your new standard. Norway pays stipends to unemployed every month and pay parents stipends to take care of their children. Norway is also one of the countries with the highest minimum wage in the world. Shouldn't we also take a cue from them abi that one no dey? |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Lithiumite: 7:16am On Mar 19 |
Kukutente23:How would you have been able to do anything with a debt service to revenue ratio of 96%,weren't you old enough during gej era when madam okonjo was screaming to high heavens that Nigeria was borrowing to pay salaries even into Buhari’s, govt was borrowing to cover both capital and recurrent that he had ro resort to ways and means running into 30 trillion naira all these is no more under tinubu thanks tobthe subsidy removal on both petrol and the dollar, the old ways were unsustainable even gej was crying out during is time that Nigeria would bleed to debt with the subsidy regime. You claim it was devaluation that led to increased allocations to states, you are partly correct but thats not the full story, how come states aren't owing salaries anymore compared to the era of subsidy despite increase in minimum wages, how come many could now carry out more projects as against that era atleast they said so themselves. |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Kukutente23: 7:23am On Mar 19 |
Lithiumite:You mean Nigeria is no longer borrowing? Are you sure? Cause CBN just sold some bills yesterday and there's a $25bn borrowing plan on ground. Debt service reduction had to do with completion of IMF loans and renegotiated terms for others. States aren't owing salaries anymore because the value of the salary they pay has dropped massively. You're robbing the civil servants to enrich the states. The increased allocation is because of devaluation majorly which puts more money in govt coffers even with less value. The less value is then pushed to the salary earners |
| Re: Petrol Price Per Litre Angola Vs Nigeria by Sheuns(m): 7:26am On Mar 19 |
lawani:No subsidy yeah? Okay. Why can’t the government improve the standard of living of the people? Why can’t they make electricity stable? Most of the petrol and diesel bought at fueling stations are used to power generators for homes , businesses and factories. The governments before now that sold fuel at lower prices are not stupid. Buhari once said he doesn’t know what’s subsidy. Means he never paid anything of such during his time as military minister and head of state. There’s no country on earth right now that doesn’t do something that benefits all its citizens. Subsidy removal is a scam used by politicians to steal more from the people. No one forced any nation to sell crude at certain price to its citizens. It’s your oil. You can sell at whatever price you wish. |
