Why? This is my own opinion or world view tho:

America has largely benefited and written it's name in gold to many people worldwide because of its economic might and influence, not necessarily it's military (even tho this also plays a crucial part of the entire thing).

If US fully decoupled from the EU, who's going to help them in declaring sanctions and economic embargo on opposition countries?
You do know a lot of the economic sanctions US issues to countries it has problems with, it's mostly effective because of the EU's gumbody nature.
Thing is there's always power in numbers. That's the reason NATO has been largely successful. That's the power of the EU and the Euro because they work as a regional bloc.

Economic sanctions on the likes of Russia, North Korea etc are effective because of these affiliations cos USA can't unilaterally isolate anybody.

So at the end of the day, everybody needs everybody. Two truths can coexist in the sense that the EU are weaklings and militarily useless against a force that can fight back. But the US needs them for another type of power— soft power. Can also be called economic power. Economic power at times has far more reach and influence than guns and bombs. And that's why US is regarded the greatest force today....that's how they built their reputation.

And the Trump sponsored fight against China and it's expansion surely needs the EU and the others for containment.

And this is the actual template China is following. That's why they're all too happy to fund developing countries with billions of dollars in loans and infrastructure investments.
