Traditions and cultures are beautiful. When they cross the line of logic, reasoning, empathy and respect, they become harmful, toxic and shameful to it's adherents.

The act that happened in Ozoro made me unhappy. I love the Isoko tribes(they are the coolest tribe in Delta State, and I have tons of friends from there: Kome, Irene, Mr Gift et al), but this actions put them in a negative spotlight.

I strongly condemn this barbaric act, and the law enforcement agencies should not arrest innocent boys, but go through those viral videos and arrest those found and mete out the harshest possible sentence to them.

The Delta State government is to be blamed.
The traditional rulers council is to be blamed.
The traditional rulers, chiefs and other local officials should be blamed.

If they had done their homework, we wouldn't be hearing this blasphemy in this 21st century.

While every genuine effort at building safe, healthy societies is acknowledged, we must be very careful in order not to promote negative stereotypes about an individual, a group of people or a place through misrepresentations.

I'm not from Ozoro and I've never been there but the most basic common sense is all I require to know that there's a wide disconnect between what is being peddled and the real facts as it relates to the incident. There's no society across the length and breadth of the Delta state and the South East where such extremely despicable evil will be tolerated, let alone made into a festival. Contrary to the circulating version of the story, I strongly perceive it must have been a festival like several others held to commemorate an important event in the history of the people but rather than proceed lawfully, some evil men hijacked the day and expressed their tendencies in the most irresponsible fashion.
Such ugly behaviors do not represent an entire people nor their identity. As such, the perpetrators must be made to face the law without exposing the generality of the people to negative stereotype.

@ let's leave feminists alone on this and fight our own battles. 1000 men went after 1 girl. Who is to blame? We are men who should know and do better not rush to press breast as if it would save our lives. Society is failing today because of those kind of men. Let them vent and let us men strive to do better. That was just shameful.
Who is to blame ? Please answer that question . What do you mean that we men should not rush to press breast ? Who are the we ? Are you ok ? You cannot use the same brush to paint all men for the behaviour of a number of bastards . It’s like calling all women night workers because of a number of them do that . It is wrong.
We have laws against such things mostly voted and approved by men. It is NOT a “man problem” . It is a human problem . Just like infanticide. You are fueling the gender wars .

I don't even understand their obsession with feminist frustration. Those girls that were assaulted, are they feminists? With the way these guys stay attacking feminists, you will think a safe haven has been created for the non-feminist women to tap in, but it is still same hellhole. If anything, no VIP here. Women who do not understand the frustration and bitterness of feminists at a failing and unsafe society would most likely get it someday.

I hope so. Read somewhere that a man with his gf were raped.... The rape on the gf was even critical.

This barbaric act must stop, no justification for it.

Don't talk nonsense here. Some of those poor little girls were assaulted in broad daylight. An innocent girl making noodles was assaulted in her own shop, not that she even went anywhere. Don't talk nonsense!

See eh… anytime someone speaks up, it’s suddenly like we just enjoy complaining.

The so-called “r@ping festival” in Ozoro, Delta State, should never have happened. I’ve been to Delta State myself, even visited the King of Oleh Kingdom during an outreach with a foundation, and it’s honestly shocking to hear something like this associated with that region. I never imagined that people in Ozoro would sink this low or allow such a disturbing act to take place in their own community.

But how do you keep quiet in this day and age when we’re still dealing with something as disgusting and sensitive as ræpe and molestation in our society?

How do people still find it so easy to exploit others like this?
I had to go and watch the videos myself before saying anything and what I saw was beyond disturbing.

According to what I read, women are supposedly not allowed to be outside by 12 midnight for seven days or they risk being ræped by youths or men. What kind of madness is that?

What kind of so-called festival promotes something so vile?

Which culture celebrates violating women instead of protecting them?

I watched young girls being chased and harassed by a group of miscreants lying in wait, ready to pounce on innocent women all in the name of a festival.

Is that what we’ve reduced ourselves to?

I saw a woman on an okada surrounded by a mob, the rider almost lynched just because he didn’t stop, and they dragged the woman off the bike like she was nothing.

I saw another woman stripped naked by about 10 grown men ...twenty! before someone casually decided it was “okay” to let her go. Like her dignity meant absolutely nothing.

I saw a man trying to help a lady escape from that chaos, and by then her clothes and bra had already been torn apart.

Let’s stop deceiving ourselves, this is not a festival. This is organised, targeted sexual harassment, enabled by whoever came up with that completely senseless and evil idea.

Maybe this has been happening quietly before, but now that it’s out in the open, it must end.

Everyone involved in creating and promoting this barbaric act must face the full weight of Nigerian law. No excuses.

Why is it that we always lean toward the worst possible behaviour in this country?

Why do we embrace evil like it’s normal?

Look at the number of able-bodied men outside, full of energy to assault women but are nowhere to be found when it’s time to defend their communities from kidnappers and real threats.

The state government must act, track down every single person responsible and shut down that nonsense completely. Enough is enough.

The Chief Priest in Ozoro, along with the Oramudhu leaders who allegedly organised and planned the festival without the knowledge or approval of the king, have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force.

Highlight captures the essence of the youths of that area. It also captures the index of imbecility and crass idiocy of their generation. SMH

Re: Ozoro Rape Festival Scandal: Chief Priest, Oramudhu Leaders Arrested by CJStarz: 6:23am On Mar 21
I get your point. Humans have always been God - conscious and bn worshipping Him through diverse means but sometimes using very crude and devilish methods which include but not limited to human sacrifices. Christianity shows us the rightful Way to worship the Creator and that's through His Son Jesus Christ. Christianity also came with Light which exposed and ended some of our horrible cultures like the killing of twins. Unfortunately, Christianity as a religion has been pulled in the mud by some of its adherents as they have started preaching and practicing what's not in the Bible. But the Word of God stands SURE...The Lord knows those that are His.

... our culture is not all bad, we just need to throw out the bad and keep the good !!

BTW Christianity did not introduce a foreign GOD to cultures in Nigeria, OMOLUABI culture for example have always had an acute sense/reverence of OLODUMARE the ALMIGHTY eons before Christianity !!
Re: Ozoro Rape Festival Scandal: Chief Priest, Oramudhu Leaders Arrested by Ajsmart(m): 6:29am On Mar 21
Dumbo bringing foreign religion into a local issue. This is the quickest way to recognize an enslaved mindset. It was white Christians who funded the ships used to enslave your ancestors; turned them into beasts of the field and worked them to death in foreign lands during the transatlantic slave trade. Look around you, everywhere you look is flooded with Christian churches yet things get worse year after year despite millions of Christians attending those thousands of churches.

The man who call women bannies here said it was false report as he schooled there....

What do you have to say now?
I know of different tribe that don't allow women outside during the festive period not only in delta state but also in different cultures.

If they comes out, it is believe it will affect their unborn child, so women are flogged if they are seen outside during when the masquerade is out, but I have never heard of women being raped.

Maybe the youth of today take it too far by unclothing but I can't say of the rape because I live not too far from that area and rumors of rape have not filtered to my area.

This is very barbaric in this age. All those complicit should be arrested and prosecuted. If only those youths can exercise this kind of energy in tackling insecurity and kidnapping within that zone.

What is the difference between 5&6 and are assault and harassment not criminal offence and what was their (the women) offence for being assaulted and harassed.

You possess a terrible paternalistic mindset which believes men exist inorder to protect & fight for women and women are inherently incapable of protecting & fighting for themselves. This is untrue.Women can learn martial arts, carry pepper spray, remain indoors at certain periods of the day etc because whether we like it or not, unruly men have always & will always exist in every community/society & the onus is on women to avoid becoming their victims

These sort of attacks on women were very prevalent in Abuja.I dont know if they still are.Hordes of men would just suddenly swarm a young lady grabbing & prodding. I actually witnessed one in 2012 around 6:30pm at Wuse motorpark. The men's excuse was always that the ladies were provocatively dressed
