Dumbo bringing foreign religion into a local issue. This is the quickest way to recognize an enslaved mindset. It was white Christians who funded the ships used to enslave your ancestors; turned them into beasts of the field and worked them to death in foreign lands during the transatlantic slave trade. Look around you, everywhere you look is flooded with Christian churches yet things get worse year after year despite millions of Christians attending those thousands of churches.
Continue wasting your time corresponding with colonized minds

My first interpretation was that youths just woke up harassing and molesting any woman they saw in the name of tradition.

From what I now gather, that's not the case, evidently: An age long tradition, 'fertility ceremony', I believe they call it, was unfortunately hijacked by those barbaric miscreants.

Let's be very clear: All those who took advantage of the situation commiting the most atrocious and despicable act of molesting women must be fully brought to book. It is sick, highly condemnable act, and my heart goes out to the unfortunate victims

However we need to be careful how we sensationalize news.

What are the men doing by 13 midnight? We are condemning an act. You are talking about time. In a sane country every gender can move around freely irrespective of time.

Very good.
To imagine that one mumu on the earlier thread was debunking the news that he stayed at ozoro for 2 years and never heard of such. That you've not heard of something doesn't mean it's not in existence.
Festivals in those areas mostly happen once every four or more years, so it's very possible to school or stay there and not know about the existence of the festival if it doesn't fall within the duration of your stay.

You possess a terrible paternalistic mindset which believes men exist inorder to protect & fight for women and women are inherently incapable of protecting & fighting for themselves. This is untrue.Women can learn martial arts, carry pepper spray, remain indoors at certain periods of the day etc because whether we like it or not, unruly men have always & will always exist in every community/society & the onus is on women to avoid becoming their victims
Was it true that the men who could not muster courage to confront those that kidnapped their sisters, brothers, fathers, mothers, children and wives but now grow muscles to attack harmless women?.

I know of different tribe that don't allow women outside during the festive period not only in delta state but also in different cultures.

If they comes out, it is believe it will affect their unborn child, so women are flogged if they are seen outside during when the masquerade is out, but I have never heard of women being raped.

Maybe the youth of today take it too far by unclothing but I can't say of the rape because I live not too far from that area and rumors of rape have not filtered to my area.
They should be disciplined.

These sort of attacks on women were very prevalent in Abuja.I dont know if they still are.Hordes of men would just suddenly swarm a young lady grabbing & prodding. I actually witnessed one around 2012 around 6:30pm at Wuse motorpark. The men's excuse was always that the ladies were provocatively dressed
Really bad. This is happening in 21st century. I pray this serves as a deterrent to others.

Kudos to the Nigerian police for acting this swift

But let us ask this question:

If this has happened in the North, will the NPF had taken any action?

The Nigerian state and its security apparatus always turn blind eye to atrocities and crimes happening in the North

if this had happened in the North, their Imams and the Sultan would have taken side with the perpetrators using religion to cover wrong doings

Listen, it wasn't white Christian missionaries who bought and sold slaves. Your greedy forefathers sold their siblings and children to white capitalist businessmen and went home with the money they received.

Meanwhile, white Christian missionaries built schools to educate your fore fathers and mothers free. They built hospitals to treat your forefathers and mothers for free. They encouraged them to abandon blood sacrifices and other unnecessary negative culture. They didn't force the elders to accept Christianity. They didn't destroy shrines. They simply demanded that they sent their children, which they happily did.

It is that same trademark GREEDINESS and SELFISHNESS of your fore fathers, which made them sold their brothers, sisters and children as slaves that is showing up in their their children today as Christians. Look at the countries of white people and you will see love and sense of community unlike your community.

Look at the man in the mirror. Don't blame the white people for own fault and shortcomings. Without Christianity and it's enlightenment of mind through education, most African societies could have been worse.

Once again, thank God for Christianity.

which Christianity, the same religion which your leaders encourage gays and lesbianism... chicken reason is your problem
Christianity doesn't encourage gays and lesbians. They are simply reinforcing the God-given FREE WILL, which is subject to consequences. Yes, African societies are against it as one their values but the same societies have disgusting cultures such as shameful RAPE FESTIVAL.

Once again, thank God for Christianity.

If this barbaric act had happened in any northern state, these pigs would be all over the internet saying all sorts about the subjugation of women in northern Nigeria.

It is common knowledge from history, that the colonialists spent more time in the Southern part of Nigeria, reason why they have more educated people. We can say 95% of the atrocities going on in northern Nigeria today is due to illiteracy and religion, but what then can we say is the major clause of the atrocities going on the south, if not sheer love for evil?

Even the religion has been monetized.
Rape, prostitution, cultism, hooliganism, drugs, fraud etc is all domiciled in the South.

I hate this country soon much
What is happening in Northern states is worse though.
I'm not excusing anyone.

They should be imprisoned for such dastardly acts and those directly involved in rape executed. Rape should be a capital offense. Their tradition should be abolished else a curse will fall on the nation.

Christianity as a religion, does not turn people into fraudsters and what have you, rather ,it aims to bring people back to God by making them turn from their sinful ways but all the same, there are people who chose to remain fraudsters and all that you mentioned yet are seriously attending churches and pretending to be Christians.
There's a big world of difference between being a Follower of Christ and a Church goer.

Keep explaining....most of them are Christians....simple.

If you judge people's behaviors based on the belief systems they identify with then Christians shouldn't be an exception.....double standards isn't accepted here.

See eh… anytime someone speaks up, it’s suddenly like we just enjoy complaining.

The so-called “r@ping festival” in Ozoro, Delta State, should never have happened. I’ve been to Delta State myself, even visited the King of Oleh Kingdom during an outreach with a foundation, and it’s honestly shocking to hear something like this associated with that region. I never imagined that people in Ozoro would sink this low or allow such a disturbing act to take place in their own community.

But how do you keep quiet in this day and age when we’re still dealing with something as disgusting and sensitive as ræpe and molestation in our society?

How do people still find it so easy to exploit others like this?
I had to go and watch the videos myself before saying anything and what I saw was beyond disturbing.

According to what I read, women are supposedly not allowed to be outside by 12 midnight for seven days or they risk being ræped by youths or men. What kind of madness is that?

What kind of so-called festival promotes something so vile?

Which culture celebrates violating women instead of protecting them?

I watched young girls being chased and harassed by a group of miscreants lying in wait, ready to pounce on innocent women all in the name of a festival.

Is that what we’ve reduced ourselves to?

I saw a woman on an okada surrounded by a mob, the rider almost lynched just because he didn’t stop, and they dragged the woman off the bike like she was nothing.

I saw another woman stripped naked by about 10 grown men ...twenty! before someone casually decided it was “okay” to let her go. Like her dignity meant absolutely nothing.

I saw a man trying to help a lady escape from that chaos, and by then her clothes and bra had already been torn apart.

Let’s stop deceiving ourselves, this is not a festival. This is organised, targeted sexual harassment, enabled by whoever came up with that completely senseless and evil idea.

Maybe this has been happening quietly before, but now that it’s out in the open, it must end.

Everyone involved in creating and promoting this barbaric act must face the full weight of Nigerian law. No excuses.

Why is it that we always lean toward the worst possible behaviour in this country?

Why do we embrace evil like it’s normal?

Look at the number of able-bodied men outside, full of energy to assault women but are nowhere to be found when it’s time to defend their communities from kidnappers and real threats.

The state government must act, track down every single person responsible and shut down that nonsense completely. Enough is enough.

The Chief Priest in Ozoro, along with the Oramudhu leaders who allegedly organised and planned the festival without the knowledge or approval of the king, have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force.

Be there and be thinking you are wiser than your ancestors who kept women contained.

Gender equality is nonsense because any organization without a clearly defined leadership amounts to confusion and chaos as seen in modern families today

Since you are talking about remaining with the ancestors, why do you seek knowledge with artificial intelligence, after all it wasn't so, as society evolves, all gender must evolve.. oh I hope your little ones still use napkins instead of diapers, or your wife doesn't cook for you when she is on her period because ancestors considered it "unclean" ?
