LordAdam16:
it'd be like south africa charging a toll to pass through the southern ocean
or malaysia/indonesia charging a toll to pass through the straits of malacca

it is unprecedented to do so in peacetime

legally speaking, iran has not closed off the strait of hormuz
it has only instituted a monitoring regime to preserve security as part of self-defense during a war

that will be the justification used to mine the strait if it comes to that
we are under attack and we mined it to prevent naval assets from using it
just so happens that civilian vessels are also affected

you kinda have the same sh*t in the bosphorus straits
turkey can close it off when it comes under attack but doesn't charge a toll to use in peacetime

-Lord
Fair point, though I think Turkey still charges ships for passage.

Appleyard:
Well, it is definitely a head-scratcher when you look at the timing. But, the more you look at it, the more sense it makes that they did not close it pre-war.

For a long time, Iran did use the threat of closing Hormuz as its biggest "bargaining leverage." Keeping it open wasn't really about being generous or offering free passage; it allows Iran to stay connected to the global economy. As long as the strait stayed open, Iran could still try to sell its own oil and keep some diplomacy alive with countries like China and India.

If they had closed the strait back when the sanctions were first reinstated, it likely would have provoked this war much sooner, which could have closed the window of preparation Iran badly needed.

Closing a major global shipping lane is usually seen as an "act of war" by the rest of the world. By waiting until the actual fighting began on February 28, Iran was able to use the closure as a direct military and economic move rather than just a political protest. That patience is what has steered the war in its favour today.

Now that the war is in full swing and the U.Sreal camp decided to hit their oil hubs, Iran is also making sure no one else can move oil through that area either. The strategy is all about "if we can’t sell ours, nobody can sell theirs as well," and that has sent global prices skyrocketing. It was a master plan by Persia.

Now, they're not just getting the sanctions lifted, but also making a tonne of money from allowing passage through the strait---these would never have been possible pre-war.
That makes sense. Thanks

Do they take their people for granted?
Are they without brains in their heads too?
What kind of thoughtlessness is this?
That the weather in Iran is what lobs the projectiles and the Iron-condemn system refuses to act because they weren't fired by launchers?
Is the Iron-condemn system an Iranian spy/ally too?
And their people believed them?
The self-proclaimed God's chosen ones don't have it in them the capacity for sound judgement?

yea they do

think that's because of the 1936 montreaux convention though
the great powers at the time signed the agreement acknowledging turkey's right to manage the dardanelles and bosphorus
also helps i think that turkey controls both sides of the straits

also have to add
that the littoral states of the strait of malacca did establish a Cooperative Mechanism fund
to accept voluntary contributions for safety and environmental projects at the strait

iran has been really, unusually fair to the planet keeping it open while suffering decades of sanctions

UK Ministry of Defence Criticized Tehran’s Reckless Attack On Diego Garcia Calling Them A Threat To British Interests And British Allies.

It's like UK wants Iran to thank her for allowing US to use Diego Garcia to bomb Iran. Me no just understand how these people reason.

If this is true, the Israelis should better start shopping for masks, oxygen tanks and insulating clothes because Tehran will hit either Dimona, Nevatim or both.

FoolishBoy419:
What they're saying is that the jet was struck from central Iran. A long-range SAM can shoot a jet from many hundred kilometers away.

I also never said they cannot operate in Iranian airspace. I said they were lying about having air superiority over Iran. As at the last time I made that comment, their jets had still not breached Iranian airspace.
Fair enough, you go soon talk another one.

⚡Dimona is a city in southern Israel that hosts the country’s main nuclear facility, widely believed to produce plutonium for an undeclared nuclear weapons program (estimated 80–400 warheads).

Facility was built in the 1960s with French assistance.

It is central to Israel’s nuclear ambiguity policy.

Iran's AD 08 air defense system is what took on the American fifth generation F 35. They call it Majid as well.

This system is mounted on a single vehicle. It carries four missile launchers, a targeting sight, and supporting equipment all working together as one unit. It is a short range system with a maximum range of eight kilometers. The missile follows the infrared signature coming off the target and locks on.

Because there is no radar involved, this system cannot be jammed and it is very difficult to detect. Normally it is considered most effective against drones and cruise missiles, but it can also bring down fighter jets flying at low altitude.

So why did the F 35 not crash after being hit?

The missile is small and carries a small warhead. The damage to the F 35 was not enough to bring it down immediately. But the aircraft that was hit would have definitely gone out of service.

This engagement took place on March 19 when Iran's IRGC air defense units struck a US F 35 over central Iran. The jet was forced to make an emergency landing at a US base in the region. The pilot survived. The US confirmed an F 35 made an emergency landing after a combat mission but accounts differ on what caused the damage.

What makes this significant is that the AD 08 uses passive infrared guidance. It does not trigger radar warning systems inside the aircraft. For a stealth jet like the F 35 which is built to avoid radar detection, this presents a different kind of vulnerability. If confirmed, this would be the first time Iran has successfully struck a US F 35 in combat.

Exactly. Iran and Russia— the so called evil dictatorships operate by the book so much that they are held to a higher moral standard than USA and Israel. I have seen this even among neutral analysts. You hear nothing about the daily raids in the West Bank or the starvation of Cuba but let one journalist die in Moscow and Russia would be slandered for the next 2 years.
