The Nigerian Army has once again demonstrated its unwavering resolve to defeat terrorism, successfully repelling a coordinated night attack by insurgents in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 18 March 2026 at about 12:50 a.m., saw terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram/ISWAP advancing from the Duguri general area on foot, supported by multiple armed drones, in a bid to breach the 68 Battalion Main Defensive Area. However, their movement was swiftly detected by vigilant troops who responded with overwhelming firepower.

In a well-coordinated operation, troops in synergy with supporting air components engaged the attackers decisively, neutralizing over 60 terrorist fighters, including some notorious commanders. The intense firefight forced the remaining insurgents into a disorganized retreat towards the Arege general area.

Troops have since commenced exploitation operations to pursue and eliminate the fleeing terrorists, while Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms are being deployed to dominate the adversary’s withdrawal routes and prevent regrouping.

The death toll of terrorists neutralised during a failed infiltration attempt on troops’ position in Malam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno, has risen to 75, in what security analysts describe as one of the most decisive recent blows against the Islamic State West Africa Province.

Zagazola report that the Initial reports had put the number of insurgents killed at 61, following a coordinated response by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by the Nigerian Air Force.

However, updated battlefield assessments and mop-up operations indicate that at least 75 fighters were neutralised, with several others believed to have escaped with severe injuries.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, saw ISWAP fighters advancing on foot toward the 68 Battalion location, reportedly deploying armed drones in an attempt to breach defensive lines. The infiltration, launched from the Duguri axis toward the Bravo Company frontage, was swiftly detected and repelled.

Military sources said the success of the operation was anchored on superior coordination between air and ground forces, illustrating the growing effectiveness of joint-force synergy in counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

Four precision air interdiction strikes were conducted on identified terrorist withdrawal routes effectively degrading their combat capability and disrupting their manoeuvre.

The integration of air power ensured that the insurgents were fixed in position and subjected to sustained bombardment, forcing a chaotic withdrawal toward the Arege axis.

Further compounding the losses of the terrorists group was the intervention of allied air assets from the Niger Republic, which carried out additional strike passes on fleeing terrorists.Although a full battle damage assessment of those strikes is still ongoing, security sources believe the combined firepower significantly increased the casualty figures.

We just have to find ways to keep this up in almost every attempt they make to aggregate significant troops for any major attack.

Kudos to the Army and Airforce.

This is where drone warfare can be critical. Especially now that we are capable of producing drones locally. Every attempt to attack with more than 50-100 men should be met by day or night with a swarm of kamikaze drones, launched from the comfort of Maiduguri.
Na small by small, we shall get there.

ISWAP fighters are keeping records of their debtors are now dead.
After the Malam Fatori operation, troops of Operation Hadin Kai recovered a notebook from ISWAP fighters, neatly written with names, rifles issued, and even motorcycles tracked like company assets.
Even more shocking, fighters took loans but many never returned to repay them[b]

That's why I'm a big fan of NA owning their own full-fledged operational Air Wing comprising of both fixed-wing/Rotary -winged aircraft for ground attack, logistic and transportation/medic-evacuation.
If we are serious of winning this war or defeating terrorists, honestly, this over-reliance on the NAF for ground support missions is failing us.

Should NAF not be pragmatic and push for it's Mi-35M after FG conceded a UAV base to the US? Or is NA's 12 MD 530F not a good bargaining chip?

Can't MOD sell the Mi-35s strategic importance to US Sahel GWOT?

The Algerians use majorly Ruskie tech and I don't think they've ground their fleet because of the US.

Turkey, SA, Indonesia, Brazil and Argentina ought to be our buddies for development militarily.

[/b]TROOPS DOMINATE NGOSHE, ENSURE PEACEFUL EID CELEBRATIONS[b]

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have once again demonstrated firm operational control over Ngoshe and Gwoza areas of Borno State, effectively countering terrorist propaganda and ensuring a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration across the axis.

In a desperate bid to remain relevant, Boko Haram/ISWAP elements recently resorted to spreading false claims of plans to overrun Ngoshe and conduct Sallah prayers at the Central Mosque, an attempt aimed at creating panic and projecting a false image of strength. These claims, however, clearly reflect a struggling group increasingly reliant on misinformation rather than capability.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly reinforced the area following an attempted incursion on 4 March and intensified clearance operations. The proactive response, supported by aerial surveillance and the cooperation of vigilant residents, disrupted terrorist movements and led to the neutralisation of several insurgents, further weakening their already degraded operational capacity.

Consequently, Ngoshe and the adjoining Gwoza axis remained calm, secured and firmly under the control of Nigerian Army troops throughout the Sallah period. Residents freely observed prayers and celebrated without any interference, further exposing the hollowness of terrorist claims.

In a strong demonstration of confidence and authority, troops led by the Commander 26 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General NI Abdullahi, joined worshippers to observe Eid prayers at the Ngoshe Central Mosque. This symbolic gesture not only reassured the populace but also underscored the continued failure of terrorist propaganda efforts.

The Chief of Army Staff have commended the resilience and cooperation of the local populace, whose support remains critical in sustaining the ongoing successes. Members of the public are urged to disregard and avoid amplifying terrorist propaganda, as such narratives are deliberate tools employed by weakened groups seeking to instill fear and undermine security efforts.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI will continue to sustain aggressive operations across the theatre to consolidate gains, eliminate residual threats and ensure enduring peace and security in the North East.

Nigerian Navy has no excuse to not snap up at least a pair. Would last us until at least until late 2030s. Reintroduce fighting capabilities into our fleet.

The NN and MOD i know would never by any naval vessel with any form of missiles.

The Magnus MF212 with it's disgraceful 600 max take off weight is the more capable aircraft?
Only two aircrafts in that link fits COIN/Armed ISR and we have the best of it — Super Tucano.
I'm talking of NA Aviation, they cannot get that.

Magnus originally had a deal with NCAT to provide training aircrafts with local assembly before they pitched to NAF and later NA.

The MF212 is a waste of money for fixed wing. Slower, light weight and no track record.

Ill rather advised we go for the SU25, the NA needs dedicated attack platforms that can rain hell and give ground troops the adequate fire support they need.

[/b]COAS COMMENDS TROOPS’ RESILIENCE IN CLEARING IPOB/ESN THREAT TO PEACE IN SOUTH EAST[b]

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of Operation UDO KA for their resilience, gallantry, and sustained offensive operations against criminal elements of the proscribed IPOB/ESN in the South East. The commendation was delivered during the Chief of Army Staff Special Sallah Luncheon held at Mother Valley in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, a location previously identified as a stronghold of the insurgents.

Represented by the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, the COAS conveyed the appreciation of the Army leadership to frontline troops for their unwavering commitment and recent operational successes. He noted that the troops’ ability to clear entrenched hideouts and dismantle terrorist networks, despite persistent improvised explosive device threats, reflects the Nigerian Army’s combat effectiveness and operational dominance in the theatre.

The COAS reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army remains a disciplined, professional, and mission-oriented force, resolute in its constitutional mandate to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensure the safety of lives and property.

He further commended the General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, for fostering synergy through effective collaboration with sister services, other security agencies, and host communities—an approach that continues to enhance intelligence-driven operations and deliver significant gains.

In line with the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” philosophy, the COAS also extended goodwill to wounded personnel receiving medical attention, assuring them of the Army’s continued support and commitment to their welfare and recovery.

The event underscored the Nigerian Army’s operational progress in degrading hostile elements and restoring normalcy across the region. The Army calls on residents of the South East to sustain their cooperation by providing credible and timely information to security agencies, as collective efforts remain critical to consolidating the gains recorded and achieving enduring peace in the region.

Me and you know NA cannot convince the bean counters why a jet should be in their inventory na. NAF won't hear of it.
