Lack of government backed housing is behind this suffering.

the rent in lagos need to be regulated
How can that be possible when cost of building material is skyrocketing ? Wr all know the solution but government is not prepared to help ...Building low cos houses is the only solution ...This government is all about milking the masses...so people most survive...

The ops is right to some extent, though I don’t quite agree with that of mushin and Alimosho. Depending on the area because some part are more expensive than other……however I agree With him in that of badagry even though rent are also increasing in that part of Lagos due to development and influx of people moving to that part of lagos.

Lol...I was thinking the same. Why will I pay 1.4 million for a 2 bedroom in Ajegunle, when I can get a 2 bedroom for that amount in a cool part of egbeda, or Gowon estate.

Minimum wage is 70k. Less than 90% of Nigerians earn less than 500k a month.

This country is interesting. Nothing ever adds up.

Rest, your not landlord ah
in some areas in alimosho, most especially some organised and secure estates, a 2 bed costs up to 1.2m. There's 24hrs power supplies in those areas. There are also good access roads, making them hotcakes

This person obviously doesn’t know the current value of house rent. Cheapest 2bedroom you will find in mushin now is 1.6m and that’s old building while new building goes as high as 2.5m yearly

The problem with these areas is that NEPA would deal ruthlessly with you. Most of these areas hardly have reasonable light. So if you don't have solar panels or Gen get ready to sleep in heat and darkness
Not true I stay at ikotun

We have light like 18hours a day

This eventually leads to an increment in the overall rent. Regulation of rent do more harm than good.

Increase the supply of houses. Allow for the importation of cement. Reduce the cost/levies of building permits. House rents will reduce.

It's so simple.

There's no place in the world where there was a regulation of rent and a corresponding decrease in the overall rents. Regulation actually lead to an increase, not decrease, in house rents. It has happened in Vienna, New York and Berlin.

How do you call 500k to 1.5m cheap.
How much be minimum wage?
How much do most new graduates earn?

What of the extra charges you have to pay asides the rent?

I am not sure this country is still designed for hardworking and legal Nigerians.
Eziokwu.

Minimum wage 80k. Cheap rent over half the year’s salary. How??

Did you add the Agent, Legal and Caution fee too? That is the most discouraging part of renting in Lagos State.
