I don't think he is a liberal fundamentally, he's an evangelical Christian conservative to the core and he wears that as a big badge of honour. However since his work is political and not just spiritual, he has to accommodate many people of different backgrounds and ideologies but with a common enemy which is the left. As far as you're a conservative, he'll embrace you and welcome you to the movement but when you hear him talk on spiritual and moral issues, you'll hear and see his real convictions.

By liberal, I mean he was very tolerant.

From your example of those who got admitted without passing Maths or they waived SAT for. Because they think Maths is racist. They didnt waive Maths for everyone its just for these Neanderthals who cant understand Maths. If their colleagues start looking at them as quota system candidates do you think that helps them?
