Princedapace:. Controlling birth rate since independence would have made us have an even more heftier debt than we do...borrowing to take care of the elderly. So, it is already a disaster. The black man love buying finished products. We wasted our money purchasing white man's created products instead of turning our abundant resources into finished products. Only STEM focused course could have done that.A lot of people love buying finished products, especially the whites (which is why there is no domestic television and computer manufacturing in the UK for example...everyone buys products mostly made in Asia), otherwise you are right. |

UzorIyke:Seriously, we should have passed this stage decades ago. It is because we haven;t passed that stage...that is why all your leaders since independence including tinubu are not good enough at all. Anyway, better late than never, but that does not excuse our tardiness...and poor leadership. |

nairalanda1:i have been to Songhai farm in Porto Novo, and they produce and process the products there as to achieve self sustaibability. I believe this Songhai farm is modelled in the same light, but government must hands off. Rivers state under Amaechi set up something similar, but not sure how that ended. |

nairalanda1:Your first paragraph is false, immediately after independence we had about 15% literacy rate, and focus should have been ensuring close to 100% in 20years. We were clearly outgrowing our economy in population since 1970s. 80% of Nigerians barely pay any formal tax, and we need to control the birth rate sooner than later, it is hard to achieve under a democratic leader. China tapped in to that and now relaxing the rules. Nigeria is no where near worrying about taking care of the old. Those over 65 years are about 5% of the population . we need to move to a stable population pyramid ASAP and focus on productivity. |
| Re: Pictures Of 10,000 Hectare Enugu Tribu Songhai Farms by nairalanda1(m): 9:36am On Mar 24 |
chinchum:1. Yeah, controlling birth rate was something I used to believe in...but with the experience of Japan, South Korea, China? Not again. Even Russia, one reason why many people didn't want Russia going to war was their population growth rate had been in decline for years..before the Ukraine war. An ageing population is a disaster wating to happen. A growing populaiton could be harnessed for industrial based economy...hence my comment on this site...we need to use our resources to make exportable products. 80% of Nigerians barely pay any formal tax, and we need to control the birth rate sooner than later, it is hard to achieve under a democratic leader. China tapped in to that and now relaxing the rules. Nigeria is no where near worrying about taking care of the old. Those over 65 years are about 5% of the population . we need to move to a stable population pyramid ASAP and focus on productivity.China is relaxing the rules because they are seeing what is happening to Japan, an ageing nation with villages dissapearing, not enough bus and taxi drivers for places like Tokyo, and schools and hospitals closing down because not enough people, and government borrowing to pay for pensions. And China has far more people than Japan. If we became an industrial society, growth of population is an advantage, not a disadvantage And yeah more nigerians should pay tax, but most nairalanders think you are supporting tinubu when you say that ...lol. It's also a big reason why your economy is not enough...that and reliance on oil. We need to effing industrialize, and yesterday. |

Every small thing, una go hear, one of the best governor since 1912; just as if this governors are not supposed to do anything. If a governor builds a pedestrian bridge, praises will flood everywhere; I am yet to see a governor who did better than Donald Duke, but when he left his legacies disappeared like they never existed. Awolowo use Coca Cola settle his family, OBJ used MTN and others, Tinubu used Coastal Road; Obi used Anambra turn around Fidelity; make anybody no fool una; no matter what they are doing, they are not spending their money and they are not doing anything special; it is their job. bankyblue: |

The size of land they have planted palm trees is not up to the claim of 10,000 hectares. Abi are they also invluding the Oguta Lakers as part of the 10,000 hectares? 10,000 hectares should be as far as the eyes can see. |

pimplucious:It is when you get involved to know farming is not for newbies, except you are ready to retire and leave close to your farmland. Farm hands are waiting like hyenas to extort new farmers. I got involved in farming out of interest. For the 3 years i was into food cultivation I did not recoup 10% of my investment. Rather than succumb to the ridiculous pricing after harvest, I chose to bring my harvest out and give it to my people in the city. My next plan is to try cash crop when I am ready again |
