It's really funny how you guys think.....i am sorry,I don't mean this in any demeaning way but I will try to explain as best as I can.

Nigeria owns the gas,agreed.....but the gas is deep under the ground and far out at sea......you need investments for equipments and expertise to get this gas out and add value to pipe it to the end consumers, all these is done by the private sector who should of course make profit for their effort......govt can't do it alone as govt has been very terrible at doing business.......the generating companies needs this gas to power their plants and they have to pay for this gas......however, the big challenge is that the gencos are not making enough money from the electricity they are generating to cover their cost which includes this gas thereby making them unable to pay the gas companies.

It's that same electricity many Nigerians are not paying to use, many people would rather by pass the system and those that pay arent paying cost reflective tariffs to cover the cost and govt subsidies still arent sufficient......therein lies your power problems in this country.
It's funny how BATists suddenly understood all of Ngieria's problem the moment their gods took office
Same people that wanted to bite Jonathan to death and rained curses on him when he claimed that power supply improved

You are on what exactly oga power minister...
Please just reverse the banding tarrif to a general flat rate, and return the subsidy for energy....APC just kept deceiving the gullible populace, and their online warriors will keep defending the government...in a sane country by now he should have left office because the reasons you forced removal of power subsidy and introduced the banding tarrif system is not working....band A in some areas have not use energy for up to 10hrs in a month
There is a subsidy for electricity, and as at now, Band A users are not subsidsied, but the other bands, who form 80% of the consumers are subsidsied.

That does not translate into enough of a profit for the discos to pay gencos, meaning the gencos can't make enough money to pay for gas among other things.

Government subsidy payments have also been awful, with government owing 6 trillion naira. EVEN if government paid the subsidy debt off tomorrow morning at 10 am, it still won't solve the issue because of the fact that most consumers do not pay a cost reflective tarrif.

A flat rate would make sense if it was cost reflective.

Would you run a business if the government was setting your price?

Would you invest in a business where government price setting prevents the company from making a profit meaning your roi would dissapear into the dust?

NO free food in FREETOWN.
Did the government forced me to setup the business? Was I forced to invest in the business? I have the freedom to say no to any investment even in a military government.

We are not going to have 24 hours power until we remove the subsidies. Ministers, governments have been issuing promises for decades, it won't solve anything if there's not enough money to run the sector.
See your mouth
What have we benefited from petrol subsidy removal? Price increase or weitin?

They do not behave as if they are serving the public. Instead of a self-congratulatory

You can type this from home, because government refused to put subsides on the gsm sector. Thats why they make enough of a profit to give you good enough service.

You don't have light because government puts subsides and price controls on the power sector and has done so for decades, even with privatisation.

Businesses need to make a profit to run effectively, without corruption, wuru wuru and bad service...and subsidy prevents that from happening.

It's harsh, but it is what it is.

Even with your lengthy epistles you didn't answer the simple questions i asked. What happens to the investor shutting down the business if the government is not allowing it to make profit? Why can't they say look government we can't make profits with you fixing prices for us, as such we are shutting down? Did the government prevent them from shutting down their business?

You get more darkness, because government is going to continue with price controls and subsides, and no light.

I mean that's what government was doing before the era of discos and gencos....and we were having no light promax.

That;s what I am saying...they close the business since no profit (which some of them have done...three disco investors pulled out) and government takes over and charges the same price controlled rates that subsidy cannot make up for, and the result is the same

More darkness.

They should all close the business, not some of them, the businesses themselves are stealing from the same government. You can't remain in a business you claimed you are not making profits from, except there is something you are hiding.
