You want to live in denial of the reality. And maybe where we live also determine what we need to live comfortably. I live in Lagos and to live a comfortable life in Lagos, you will need nothing less than 700k as a single. Then as a married man with 2 kids I think 2m as I earlier mentioned. If you want the breakdown I can give you.
Please do. It will help readers understand more and perhaps, help them understand how they can thrive between survival and comfortable.

A family of 4(me, wife, 2 kids)

Feeding daily for 1 person = #5000
4 people = #20,000

Monthly= 20000 x 30 = #600,000 for only feeding.

I recently read a detailed breakdown explaining everything.

Sharing it here for anyone interested:

I'm on 450k (net)., family of 5.
We're stable but not comfortable.
I'm eyeing 1.2M in the Short term and 3M+ monthly in the Long run to feel and be comfortable.

My relatives pay me $1000 per month.

No girlfriends, no wives, no kids, no siblings, no parents.

Only me and my relatives. My father trained all in university, so I'm enjoying the payback.

God is wonderful.

If you don't mind me asking, why breakdown feeding this way when food is cooked as a family and groceries are bought in bulk and not at each time of cook. As such, it will make more sense to say feeding is N600k than the way it is broken down.

When you write stable, what does that mean?

I actually don't stay at home until weekend. I buy food in restaurants and I even spend more than #5,000 daily for my own feeding. A plate where I eat is #2500. Multiply by 3 is #7500 daily. I also have a house maid. I didn't even count her mouth in the food calculation I made. But if you actually do the Maths, 20k for food per day for a family that's trying to live comfortably is not out of place na.

Thank you for the clarification. So now, I get why it is N600k for feeding.

though not in nigeria but due to the numerous billings i've gotten countless times, here is my contribution based on what i see from those living in nigeria and all

In Lagos, you need minimum of N700,000 as a single guy to have access to basic things in life, and just forget about car for now, you would hardly be able to afford a car on that salary

as a married man, 1.2m and above monthly with 2 kids max to live just a basic and okay life, might struggle with that, but you can definitely make it work, again forget about buying a car on that paycheck won't work

Nigeria is really difficult and not so easy to navigate.

it baffles me how people survive on less than 500k a month, honestly with all humility and sincerity cant do the maths, have done it severally and my books dont balance, hence why i totally understand the frustrations that lots of nigerians face from the government in power,

just sad, work so hard but earn so little

just out of curiosity are you married cause 300k food stuff a month wont comfortably feed 2 persons a month . remember the OP is asking how much to live comfortably in a month, key word is to be comfortable and not to suffer

2m is fine,my 650k no reach anywhere without hubby or kids, keep wondering how family men cope with 200,300,400 or even 500k salary cry

Where is rent of 200-250k in Lagos?
Bukola94:
with 350k to 400k, I will be okay and manage. But to get job that pays up to that, naa connection ones need. House rent will be taking 200k to 250k annually

same here , dont know how they do it at all on those salaries,

my rough guess, might be wrong

at 500k salary
100k savings towards a yearly rent of 1.2m (decent and manageable location ) 1 bedroom accomodation
savings 100k monthly
feeding - 150k monthly inclusive of food at work and eating out .

transportation - 100k (really tight already here, cause it cost more than 100k depending on your location to work, say you live on the mainland and work on the island we need like 200k here )

total is already 500-550k

Remember this is for a single guy and my earlier post aligns , i said a single guy need 700k to live comfortably,

at that 500k yiu can't even date or do anything at all.

now what blows my mind is how married people with 2 or 3 kids do it on a 300k or less salary or even a 500k salary

i did engineering but i can't solve that maths or do the calculation at all,

You would literally have to be begging everyone on your watzapp status to survive.

speaking out or contributing to this thread cause no jokes, i've gotten hundreds of messages like that, and just had to start looking at their situation cause its not funny and nice what the average nigerian goes through

Wow... that's serious. Is it possible you save before you spend and manage whatever is left to meet your expenses?

Interesting and revealing thread. No wonder one lady tweeted that rich people in Nigeria look so stressed and she wondered if they are enjoying their money at all.

Truly, the majority of Nigerians are suffering because outside of Lagos, Abuja and partly Port-harcourt, salaries are very low. Then add: the naira devaluation, removal of fuel subsidy and the current fuel increment due to war in the Middle East.

A lot of people are keeping up with appearances. A lot of Nigerians cannot afford luxury goods/items as their earnings are prioritised for the basics. A lot of Nigerians don't eat nutritiously.

Well, nothing surprising as the same Nigerians campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015. Now, we see why many japa. Their earnings cannot sustain their living standards.

See why it's extremely important to have fewer children? See why many Nigerian men should undergo vasectomy. There's nothing I've not stated as far back as 2016!

.

In the days before the change of government, I was a man at ease and a man of means

Each month, I received eight hundred thousand naira after my tasks were done. It was sufficient for my household, for my wife, and even for Fatima my secrete mistress ; one whose laughter brought me secret joy. Life, though not extravagant, but was comfortable.

But when the times changed, so did my fortune.

Now I earn one million naira each month, yet it no longer carries the strength it once did. What once fed many can barely satisfy two. Before the fourth week arrives, my wife’s face tightens, for her kitchen grows empty.

Of all that I have lost to this administration and inflation, none pains me like Fatima, the rare gift that Lagos once placed in my path. Her beauty was such that even the strongest of men would falter before it. And now, as my purse has grown light, so too has her presence vanished from my life.

My burdens have multiplied.

My mother brings forth her needs like an unending stream, and I find myself unable to meet them as before. My in laws, who once looked upon me with respect, now see me as a man whose hands have weakened, for the small support I once sent has been swallowed by rising costs.

Even in the house of worship, my place has diminished. The pastor who once greeted me with honor now scarcely turns his gaze toward me, for my tithe no longer speaks loudly in his ears.

In my village, where I was once celebrated and given the title of Ogbuefi, there are whispers. I no longer visit as I once did, nor do I bring gifts of cattle. And so, the honor that was given in days of abundance now trembles in days of scarcity.

Thus I ask you my friends ,

Can a man truly live in comfort in these times, when his earnings rise, yet his needs unending ?

No my friends , no my friends
Thank you for the write-up. It is very relatable to many men and I find it very interesting..

Princedapace:
Living comfortable means the following:

Access to unlimited and stable internet
Access to water
Access to quality healthcare
Access to healthy meals (this cost a lot o)

If u have kids (how many kids)
Where u live (two to three bedrooms now are mostly 1.5m to 4m per year in most of main cities) and even more
Access to 24/7 electricity
Access to car (one or two)
Access to one vacation once per year (locally or internally)

U deserve all these and more as a citizen of an oil, gas, abundant water, abundant lands, lithium, gold, silver, etc country.
To live comfortably means to have acces to the listed above and more. U need 4m and above income per month to be able to live this and still save a little.
This is why their tax threshold is funny to me because I know what we earn and how that has been difficult. Their tax threshold should have been 50m yearly for income tax. Then above that should pay 5 percent.
hear the truth, if u earn less say 30m per year, u are in a poor country, so u surely will have older parents to care for, siblings, friends, spouse, etc. Most likely u will have one or two externer heads to look out for. My married sis is on my neck for help now as she and her husband have had terrible years financially. U see what I am saying? So, Tinubu is actually designed to ensure we live low quality life so we can fund their own high quality life.
Mr IbeOkehie,

You have something to see here.

How men can still be considering the bolded is truly beyond me. How much is an outing? How much is venue? How much is the afters? How many times a month will you run this racket?
They still do o. Inasmuch as I'm pro-sex, womanising is a rich man's sport. My lecturer in school laments how much he spends per outing with his side chick. Dude has triplets! grin

Sha, he too wants to japa. I really respect, but don't envy, married men in Nigeria. So many responsibilities
