NSCDC CG UNVEILS 5-YEAR STRATEGIC ROADMAP, DISTRIBUTES OPERATIONAL EQUIPMENT, PRIORITISES PROFESSIONALISM AND TECH-DRIVEN OPERATIONS

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, OFR, mni, has unveiled a bold five-year strategic roadmap aimed at strengthening the Corps’ capacity for effective service delivery and national impact.

The roadmap was presented during a high-level strategic meeting with senior officers at the commencement of his second tenure, setting a clear direction for a more professional, innovative, and responsive organisation.

Reflecting on his first tenure, the Commandant General highlighted several strategic initiatives introduced to expand the Corps’ operational scope and inclusivity. These include the Female Strike Force, Safe School Initiative, Mining Marshal, and the Special Intelligence Squad, all of which have significantly enhanced the Corps’ presence in critical areas of national security.

He noted that his administration also prioritised staff welfare and institutional reforms, leading to improved morale and a more structured approach to training and career progression within the Corps.

Looking ahead, Professor Audi emphasised the urgent need to deepen technology-driven operations, stressing that modern security challenges require smart, intelligence-led approaches. He noted that increased adoption of technology will not only enhance operational efficiency but also reduce exposure to operational hazards and minimise risks to personnel.

In demonstration of this commitment, the Commandant General carried out the distribution of operational wears, surveillance equipment, and technological gadgets to Commands across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. This, he noted, is in line with his vision to enhance operational readiness, ensure efficient service delivery, and build a positive organisational culture that will create a distinct and respected identity for the Corps within the nation’s security architecture.

The Commandant General expressed profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the confidence reposed in him through his reappointment. He also commended the President’s sustained commitment to strengthening the Corps, particularly through support for technological advancement and institutional growth.

Professor Audi reaffirmed that the second phase of his administration will prioritise professionalism, discipline, and accountability, while strengthening public confidence in the Corps’ ability to protect critical national assets and infrastructure.

The strategic engagement underscores a renewed vision to build a technologically advanced, highly disciplined, and forward-looking NSCDC, capable of effectively addressing Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.

Army troops neutralized 8 Boko Haram in Borno failed attack, recover arms

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Borno, killing several insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday when terrorists advanced from multiple directions toward the base.

According to the source, troops who had taken ambush positions engaged the insurgents with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

“The troops demonstrated resilience and tactical superiority, effectively repelling the assault and immediately launching a counter-exploitation along the terrorists’ withdrawal route, inflicting further casualties on the fleeing insurgents,” the source said.

He confirmed that no personnel of the Nigerian military was killed during the encounter, although one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

The source added that at least eight terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while troops recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs, and a cache of ammunition.

“Blood trails were observed along the withdrawal routes, indicating that several other insurgents escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.

He further disclosed that injured personnel from the encounter were currently receiving treatment at a military medical facility in Biu.

Zagazola gathered that additional bodies of fleeing terrorists were sighted along their escape corridors toward the Timbuktu Triangle, a known insurgent enclave. We saw four more bodies,” said sources.

The military sources also revealed that abandoned weapons and casualties were observed in Garin Mallum and Garin Gajere, suggesting heavy losses suffered by the insurgents during the failed attack.

The military leadership urged to sustain the operational tempo, retain the initiative, and consolidate on the gains recorded against the insurgents.

Nice one.
However, one is tempted to ask the whole point in all this airborne training when we are apparently unwilling to risk them in battle. Why have we never used them to reinforce the many FOBs when they are under attack? Or drop them behind retreating ISWAP soldiers to cut them off after an attack on an FOB?

An operational jump is not merely about willingness but right employment. Reinforcement of a FOB under attack by jump should get whoever ordered it a court-martial.

The Rhodesians used the Fire force tactics for cutting of retreating enemies, however it was a matter of necessity. Air Assault by helicopters was a luxury to them.

I stand corrected but we don't have committed airborne forces. The airborne course seems to be one of the infantry courses available to the men.

Meaning our Airborne forces are merely ceremonial units for entertainment during Oct 1 ceremonies? I doubt it o, but if that is all they are, then we should stop the expensive experiment.
But besides the Nigerian army and any capacity limitations we might have, using airborne forces to reinforce forces under attack is an accepted application for paratroopers. Typically, they are dropped 2-3 km away from the actual combat zone, so they can either approach and beef up the friendly forces, or cut off the enemy force from behind. Any of these would work in the sort of situations we are faced with at our FOBs when under attack. You may correctly point out that many of these attacks happen at night, and our boys may not have experience jumping at night, but that would again be a limitation we should be working to fix not giving up without trying.

There's a difference between a skill/qualification and a force.

NA does not maintain an airborne force. 82 Div used to be home to one but that capability has been focused in the SF Brigades.

The best bet would be Air Assault by medium helos. Parachute operations for reinforcement consistently? Like I said before, there's so much that will go wrong that will get people court-martialed.

NAF REINFORCES AIR POWER THROUGH ADVANCED TECHNICAL TRAINING ON AGUSTA WESTLAND AW109 TREKKER HELICOPTER

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has further strengthened its operational readiness following the successful completion of a six-week specialist training programme on the AW109 Trekker helicopter at the Leonardo Helicopters facility in Italy. Undertaken under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the initiative underscores the Service’s deliberate commitment to building a technically proficient and self-reliant force capable of sustaining modern air operations.

The programme extended beyond routine instruction, providing personnel with intensive hands-on exposure to advanced maintenance procedures, system diagnostics, and the management of critical aircraft subsystems. These competencies are pivotal to improving aircraft serviceability, reducing mission downtime, and ensuring sustained fleet availability across diverse operational environments. In contemporary air operations, such technical expertise remains a decisive enabler of mission success, particularly in counterinsurgency, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and rapid mobility missions where responsiveness is critical.

Having completed the training, the personnel have since been redeployed to operational units, where their expertise will immediately enhance fleet performance and mission effectiveness across theatres of operation. Their contribution will strengthen the Nigerian Air Force’s capacity for faster, more reliable responses to emerging threats and the continued protection of Nigeria’s airspace. More than a training milestone, this represents a deliberate investment in readiness, reliability, and the enduring technical backbone of national air power.

NAF, GERMAN TECHNICAL ADVISORY GROUP STRENGTHEN ADVANCED MEDICAL TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN KADUNA

In a strong demonstration of the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to human capital development and mission readiness under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM) has intensified efforts to build a more skilled and leadership-driven Non-Commissioned Officer cadre. On Tuesday, 24 March 2026, the Commandant, Air Vice Marshal AC Ekpe, inaugurated an advanced upgrading course at Headquarters NAFSMSAM, Kaduna. The four-week intensive programme is designed to equip Non-Commissioned Officers with the requisite professional competencies required for progression to senior non-commissioned responsibilities, while also sharpening their leadership, supervisory, and service delivery capabilities. In his charge, the Commandant urged participants to remain disciplined, focused, and fully committed, stressing that outstanding performance during the course would remain pivotal to their professional advancement.

In a related high-impact development, NAFSMSAM, in collaboration with German Technical Advisory Group, also conducted the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Course Selection Exercise at the Air Mobile First Aid Unit. The Commandant, represented by the Deputy Commandant, Air Commodore AJ Arumona, noted that the three-day exercise was carefully structured to assess participants’ medical knowledge, physical fitness, resilience, and teamwork, critical competencies for operational emergency response. This strategic partnership with the German Technical Advisory Group not only reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s growing emphasis on international cooperation and global best practices, but also significantly enhances its emergency medical preparedness architecture. Successful participants will proceed for the NAEMT course in May 2026 and subsequently undergo further development toward certification as instructors, thereby multiplying the Service’s specialist medical response capacity.

Beyond technical and operational training, the School also advanced the Chief of the Air Staff’s people-centric leadership philosophy through initiatives aimed at strengthening unity and personnel welfare. In this regard, the Commandant received the visiting Director of Islamic Affairs, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Group Captain H Idris, in an engagement focused on fostering cohesion and obtaining feedback on the services rendered by Imams and Assistant Imams across the Air Training Command and co-located units in Kaduna. The visit underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s holistic approach to force development, one that combines professional excellence, international partnerships, and moral support systems to sustain a highly motivated, cohesive, and operationally effective force.
