And you take me for a duck, do you? I always wish Nairaland would grant us a day to engage freely, I assure you, you’d be the one appealing to the mod for intervention.
Answer the damn question!

Again, if government's role is to only prepare enabling environment like you put it, mvgu, why do we have NNPC?

So now NNPC is creating the environment? What nonsense is this, repeated as if it makes sense? I said government provides the enabling environment, how does NNPC even fit in? Do you not understand its role at all?

And before you get ahead of yourself @ emboldened, check my records, you clearly crave insults. I can oblige, but consider this your final warning.

Most importantly, Nigeria annual budget hovers around $45b with a population of around 250 million while UK with population less than 70 million has averagely annual budget of $1 trillion. Nigeria is not as rich as UK.
Bro, stop wasting your time engaging with those people, they can never be positive with any discussion while you won't still learn a thing from the discussion plus the time wasted

Repost your last comment, I missed it before it vanished. I’m more than ready to respond in kind, just to remind you that insults aren’t anyone’s exclusive privilege. Everyone knows how to throw shade, it’s just that civility keeps most people out of it. Hopefully, waiting for that comment, perhaps after 30 minutes. I'm waiting.

IN 2023 WEN TINUBU TOOK OVER IT WAS 30K { $41} ND 28 OF 36 STATES CLDNT EVEN PAY IT DEN
SmartPolician:
Tinubu and this administration have totally destroyed this country.

Given the unprecedented level of inflation his removal of fuel subsidy caused, the minimum salary ought to be #150k or higher.

It will be enforced across the board, including in the private sector.

What can 70k do for a Nigerian in this day and time?

Now do a comparison between fuel price per litre of petrol and the following; minimum wage per country, electrical cost per kWh per country.

Nigeria is not where he is meant to be.

The UK man should also consider Nigeria’s average annual budget of about $45 billion in contrast to the UK’s roughly $1 trillion. Or does he expect Nigeria to devote its entire budget solely to recurrent expenditure?

What people don't know is, price of things are cheap in Nigeria . How much is an average 1 room in Nigeria compared to other countries?

Why are other countries in Africa for example not throwing parties the way we do in Nigeria?

Compare ordinary the price of a beer in Nigeria with other countries and see the reason.

Though the minimum wage in Nigeria is low but with low price of goods and services, we should be doing better if we reduce our unnecessary spendings

Religion, festive activities and parties cost a lot yearly in Nigeria now add expensive data people are still affording even though they don't make money on internet
Kindly refrain from commenting about things you don't know about. It is very irritating. How much is the minimum wage in comparison to the cost of living? You don't live in Nigeria so it is very easy for you to make all these kinds of ignorant comments.

Don't mind all these ignorant people. My brother pays 1,000 dollars a month for rent monthly in yankee, that's 1.4 million a month, for a room in a flat o! My 2 bedroom apartment yearly rent is 1 million in ikotun, lagos (newly renovated)...that's less than what My brother pays for rent in a year. My sister that's in UK always send a her children's phone to naija for me to repair it when it spoils, because it is far cheaper in naija...I can go on and on. Yes, they earn good money there, but you will spend majority of it on surviving. Don't even go to car repairs and maintenance cost over there.

And the foolish country called Nigeria wants to tax citizens like UK is doing, even with all her resources. But this same useless country has some of the richest politicians on earth. Like u can be stupidly rich by being a local govt chairman.
That money Nigerians worked hard abroad and send back home, u will feed a lot of people who depend on u. That is why their useless tax threshhold is a joke to me. Imagine a threshold of 800k per year as tax threshold. Is that Yoruba man who did this tax mad? Like is he mad? Threshold should be 50m per year. U earning 30m per year, u cant even live comfortable life. The problems u will be solving and that of ur family will swallow the entire money except u are ready to live low life just to pay politicians. That we accepted that tax is the biggest mistake and cowardice of this country. Like we work for politicians to ball and their families. All we do is complain online. F4cking cowards like us. These men just dey enjoy our natural resource and tax sweat. Damn!

Where do you people get 1 trillion?

It's $2 trillion.

For a 60 million population.

Meanwhile the dollar comparison in that discussion is BEYOND STUPID, and should be done by Purchasing Power Parity, not by real exchange rates, something the dunderheads on that discussion have never heard of.

Someone earning 25 dollars in Nigeria can rent a room. Can 25 dollars rent you even a cupboard in America?

Nigerians don't even know just how much trouble they are in. Poverty doesn't fall on your head like an elephant. It sneaks up on you like a python and then constricts your life into nothingness.

That is how government gets away with bad governance. They increase your salaries well below inflation but when they buy their luxury SUV's they go for the latest at market prices. The gap between the haves and have nots widens constantly.

And then you wonder how people still manage to cheer them on having been sold fake promises of 'hope'. Real snake oil business.

And then to add insult to injury.
That paltry 51 dollars is actually taxable....hahahahaha... grin...chai.

D FACT DAT ITS NOW $51 ND ALL STATES CAN PAY IS A MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT..

MAKE UNAH ALLOW NIGERIA RECOVER B4 UNAH BANKRUPT AM AGAIN

Those of you making excuses as to why minimum wage can’t be increased and how it’ll cause inflation are just plain dumb and stupid. I’m not sorry to say.

The politicians you worship pocket hundreds of millions of dollars in the name of salaries and all and you say to give the average Nigeria a decent salary and stable economy is not possible.

May you all suffer in this life and in the hereafter for defending oppressors of the masses.

Your honest inferences shows you are genuinely eager to find answers and understand certain realities, you arent like those Puerile ideologues that criticises everything without an idea how the system even works.

The wage isn't the problem but what is the output of the entire Nigerian economy our gdp is about $252b with a population of about 220m the brings our per capita to just about $1,250,thats the output of every citizen in a year......now juxtapose that with Qatar with a lesser gdp of $213b with a population of just 3.3m would give you a per capita of $71k.....hence the higher wages you have over there.

If govt doubles the minimum wage in Nigeria now without commensurate level of production expect inflation to go up too.....expect a 59kg bag of rice to go up from 53k to about 80k,house rent to increase etc......
the problem in the country has brew over time, importation is damaging the country some certain people are specialist in importation of goods that can be produced here and we can never have balance of trade. the country need to work heavily on self reliance consume what you produce and export the excess, the over population can be utilized just as china is doing. we the only country where her citizens provide cheap labor around the world and is still ready to provide more

An oil producing country

Source
I always get tired of this assumption that because we are an oil producing country, therefore we must have a high standard of living like the first world.

NIgeria, even if we were run by leaders who were not corrupt from independence, or even if Peter Obi (since he is our new hero) was president from 2003 to date, cannot live on our oil revenue.

At best , oil revenue is less than 80 billion dollars on a good day. We produce anywhere betweeon 1.3-1.9 million barrels per day...on a good day. That's about what Qatar produces, but Qatar can afford the good life because they have 1.1million people, while we got 230 million people.

Now, it does not mean I am excusing tinubu or any bad government.

What we also have are a lot of resources...which can be turned into exportable goods and services. But most of our big moneymen do not want to invest in manufacturing even for export (that is why we should thank God for those who at least try like Innoson and Dangote and some others). INstead they take most of our limited oil money and import stuff, and put strain on our earnings..leading us to borrow and borrow and borrow mre, which is why we are a poor and brokeass nation

Unless we are a small country with just 2 million people, the salary average of 51dollars is the best we can do for now, until we get a leader who would promote an economy that uses our natural resources to make productive goods and services. Also, we got to stop relying on subsides. Because that oil money...again it's less than 80 billion dollars for 230 million people, is not going to yield enough revenue to keep fuel or electricity cheap (which is why you should not have voted for APC because they were promising cheap fuel and electricity..and sadly so were and are the oppostion, even Peter Obi is promising subsides, and even Sowore would do subsides...and drive us into debt)...and yet, pretending that we would is why we have four wrecked refineries and no electricity.

Honestly, what does the OP and the UK man want us to do.? Do like Argentina used to do and borrow money so that government can pay everyone salary of ₦15 million annually? Pretend we are like Saudi arabia? Pretending we were like saudi...which we are still doing, is why we are not even in a good state.

Please vote for a government that would use awa resources, even oil, to produce goods for export. THAT IS HOW A TRULY RICH NATION WORKS.

DOn't vote for APC or even PDP, and don't vote Obi if he can't do that or is not promising to do that. Enough is enough.

House rent for room and parlour is ₦900k in some ghetto area of Lagos.
Salary is ₦250k, so almost four month salary will be use to pay house rent and it's cheap?

Ogbeni, NNPC is an oil and gas corporation (company) owned by the Nigerian government. If FG is serious about making money through agriculture, it will have a company like NNPC helping it make all the money from agriculture.
