My wife’s younger sister bears “Eki” meaning Market in English.. my wife said when her mom went to market she suddenly had contraction and gave birth to her sister there thus the name.

I think many of us have come across some really funny or unusual names that make you pause and wonder what they actually mean.

Back in university, I had a friend whose name was Nigeria. The first time I met him and he told me his name, I was like, “Haaaaa!” 😄 I thought that was the strangest name I’d ever heard until I travelled to the South-South and started hearing names like Natural, President, Government, Manager, Ajalekoko, and more.

I’m sure these names have meaningful stories behind them for the people who bear them.

My full name is a statement which reads"God is the strength of the king of Israel"
Am ok with this particular name, my daughter have only Igbo name, no foreign names attached

If you want to hear unusual names come to Delta, I was busy that was why I wrote only that "Petrol", I still got more.

* I also know of a lady that bears "Ikpera",
Ikpera means THREE YEARS in Urhobo. ( She stayed in the womb for three years)

* Saboro = Means Shovel

* Ekpamaku = Zinc

* Actually = A former classmate's surname, this name cracked us up back then.

I used to hear comedians use it in jokes I never really knew it was actually a name.

A had a neighbor one time in kaduna... one of the son's name was pikin I asked if it was a nickname or alias. They said no, real name.

For the most unusual names though hand the trophy to the Delta and bayelsa ijaws

Those ones can answer anything. And how can I forget my plateau people. Pan, rang and so many Chinese sounding names.

Someone made a joke about them dropping a plate at the birth of a child and naming the child after the sound the plate made when it hit the ground!

That boy Pikin in Kaduna, if it's the Pikin I know, that's not his real name. I actually stayed next door to him for six months.

People only call him Pikin because at first glance they are confused as to whether he's a "he" or "she." You don't wanna refer to a girl as a "he" or you'll likely make her feel she's ugly. And you also don't want to refer to a boy as a "she"; no man wants to be seen as feminine. I was also confused the first week.

He's a nice guy though, and very hardworking.
