At least, you've seen the one that plays the game and we'll experienced now

Sometimes I wonder, how you people judge quality and competency. If GEJ acted as a Godfather and authoritatively, so won't say this. Nigerians really want democracy with a spice of autocracy. We don't even know what we want to be honest

A former governor is inexperienced? He introduced BVN, PVC, TSA and a host of them and you still think he's inexperienced. See logic

Let's enjoy our experience leaders in peace!

President Jonathan tried with cash flows but he was a naive politician with little experience in the game.

Some Nigerians are calling Jonathan their messiah. I believe this is the same way these hypocrites will call Tinubu a messiah in the nearest future.

Nigerians like to talk nonsense. Some of us already forget that the bad administrations of our past and current leaders, including Obasanjo, Jonathan, Buhari, Babangida, and Tinubu, are what put this country in the messy situation we are in right now.

Nigerians paying American petrol price. With only a tiny tiny fraction of the minimum wage.

What a country!

You people with all your dysfunctional comparative analysis.....the minimum wage to pms price wasn't the real value pre tinubu, previous govts were paying subsidies so if you were to factor what givt was paying thats when you get the real value.... you must also remember that they all were complaining subsidy wasn't sustainable and they all attempted to end it.
In other words, the were paying subsides and Nigerians were happy including a stable economy and consistent exchange rate.

Now....subsidy gone, inflation, high exchange rate, poverty. So in your estimation, the later is better than the former?

With record level of oil prices......we still haven't hit the oil price level of the yar adua/ gej era..... high oil prices was what they were using to shore up the economy and they spent it all without any savings.....its the effects you are still feeling now.

Some of you just talk anyhow.

Nigeria's problem is not revenue generation like Bola Tinubu made you people from his region to believe, and reason he introduced the anti-people tax in a nation struggling to survive, where over 60% of her citizen earn below $40 even after introducing all manner of indirect taxes via unscrupulous bank charges, increased customs import duties, etc.

Nigeria's problem is inability to manage whatever we have judiciously and sincerely for the common good of all.

What Nigeria need is a humane, empathetic, sincere and prudent leader to manage our available resources using scale of preference.

Tinubu is governing Nigeria with corruption, selfishness, nepotism, unforgiveness and wickedness.

If we do a scale of preference in Nigeria, Coastal Highway and other useless new highways Tinubu started constructing are not on the list of Nigeria's top priorities, so why embark on them? Because he wants to enrich and reward his friend, Chargoury and also indirectly cement his family's fortune.

Tinubu's lopsided appointments no matter what, in a very multiethnic nation like Nigeria that has been surviving by a delicate peace/unity is devilish.....it can destroy Nigeria.....it discourages other Nigerians from being patriotic towards the Nigerian project since the President feel that they don't matter simply because they are not from his tribe and did not vote for him the way he desires.

No nation governed with nepotism, bias, unforgiveness, corruption and playing of dirty politics becomes great, none!

Nigeria's problem is not revenue generation or lack of revenue but poor management of existing revenues by the unscrupulous leaders!

When a President is tribalistic and bias, he kills the patriotism and zeal to drive the nation forward in other citizens that are not from his tribe.....Buhari started that devilish nepotism as a President, and Tinubu took it to the extreme without considering the fragile nature of Nigeria and how every Nigerian tribe suspects one another.
You ended agreeing with what nairalanda1 said... how was GEJ able to manage our resources if he was already borrowing to pay salaries? Oops! If you will argue this at least you wouldn't say NOI was lying!

For those who may think I am supporting tinubu, i am not.

Nigeria's problem is simple. Most government revenue comes from oil. Or from the resources we sell. For that I blame Awolowo (who is tinubu's mentor, and you will soon see why).

Awo pioneered the idea of selling raw materials to use to build things, and provide free education. Every region and the federal government did the same. By the time oil prices rose in 1973, oil became our main earner.

That means that when the price of oil is high, so also the goodness of our economy.

Obobjunker, all he is saying, was said when I was growing up in the 1980's and 90's. Adults then would remember the good old days of the 1970's when a car cost N400, bread was 50 kobo, maltina was 45kobo, coke was 10 kobo, and fuel was 20 kobo or less, and N1000 was a lot of money, and a graduate could buy a car.

The problem was MOST PEOPLE were still suffering well well, even back then.

And the same thing happened under GEJ regime too...

When oil price is high, governments use subsides to decieve ourselves. When oil prices are low , borrowing commences to keep things up.

The only way forward is that we use our resources to make exportable goods. And stop using oil revenue to decieve ourselves. If we do that, we would be so prosperous, that one naira would be really as valuable as one dollar. Because now everything we import we make it here, and everything we should export , Nigeria controls the prices.

Is tinubu doing that...no. That is the tragedy of APC. INstead of trying to make our economy a better economy by taking us off oil, they have been using borrowing and so forth to decieve nigerians, and now that the borrowing has become difficult since 2022, they have had to take hard deciions, yet refise to take decisions like removing power subsidy because they wan win elections.

In the same way PDP was bad.

If you think my believing that Nigeria has to be using its resources to make exportable goods so that we can be a strong economy makes me a tinubu supporter, then that means that you believe that tinubu is the second coming of Deng or of the meiji emperor, or you just don't want to face the hard choices we have to make for sustainable economic growth.

GEJ was borrowing at the end of his tenure to pay salaries...because by March 2014 oil prices had crashed. And the good life was not sustainable. And the borowing continued under APC and buhari and even tinubu...because in 1960, instead of taking the decision to use our immense resources to make stuff the world needs, we chose to use money to pretend we are big boys.

Nigeria has always been the emperor with new clothes.
If you want support Tinubu, no follow corner corner - Governor SIM card Fubara. Why playing hide and seek? No one is beating you.

How was the economy good under Yar’Adua compared with Obasanjohuh

Despite the hike in oil price to $140 in 2009, he failed to make much with it, unlike the deregulation and privatisation era of Obasanjo, which Jonathan revived in his own administration, such that the economy was growing in 2014 and projected to grow even faster in 2015, despite crashing oil prices from 2013.

I am sure half of our population would prefer to go back to GEJ's administration.
nairalanda1:
So, that means that GEJ had bad government?

Remember the same grid collapses under Timunubu...happened under GEJ, promax.

The reason why the power supply does not work is because GEJ signed a privatizaiton law that prevented them from setting their prices. See the result. (Buhari and tinubu maintained the law).

Also, the man failed to fight corruption, and also refused to commot subsidy totally, because he wanted to get elected. Same reasoning tinubu is using now to refuse to remove electricity subsidy.

The day you realize all our leaders from independence to date are the same in that government revenue comes from whatever raw mateiral we sell, not taxes and what we produce by industries for export, is the day you go stop saying God bless GEJ.

I no dey like APC. Everything your GEJ does, APC dey do am. GEJ in turn just repeated the same mistakes all the predecessors made.

You guys, be it APC, PDP, ADC , always settle for less. You deserve better.

Buhari inherited an economy that was already failing in quote for several months.

In 2014, March, oil prices started falling. People who had seen the same story before in 1982, began nodding their heads like agama agama. By January 2015, NOI was prophesying that the economy would be bad, regardless of who won.

So, yes GEJ handed over a bad economy to buhari. Na high oil price he dey use to hide the cracks.

The problem with Buhari and tinubu is that instead of using hard times to shine, dem come dey do borrow borrow to maintain what we had when oil prices were high, because the sane decisions they needed to take to pull us out of danger, they no take because they preferred to be in power rather than do the hard decisions to leave Nigeria a good leagacy

I will agree if you say Obasanjo and Yaradua tried. Jonathan did not try, people were enjoying fake life, he had the opportunity to remove fuel subsidy but he was not not bold enough. Compare our foreign reserve during Jonathan time with what we have now. So many governors could not pay salary during Jonathan's time, Buhari bailed them out. ASUU strike every time.
