omoooo, thats theft on airtel side....why say unlimited and give 100gb..i cant even login the hbb website again...i hope its not true. someone has this same experience before i did my 2nd sub and its unlimited. I need to find a way to check. have you tried signing in to check what it says on your dashboard.. I usually recharge through opay

It’s no longer unlimited bro. Wait till you use it for a week plus this is me and airtel service conversation above. I bought credit through my bank and activated it through voice HBB service and it clearly said for unlimited 30k press 2

Through OPay how do you do it ?? I don’t see HBB options there.

just open opay, go to data, select airtel, then click on router bundle just few scrolls to the side, you will see airtel for 100gb at 30k or so , then you will see unlimited router at 20mbps at 30k, the you will load it on the mobile no on the box

if you want to know if its unlimited like mine, i subscribe through opay, i will attach a screenshot. you can check by inserting the sim in a phone after recharge and try checking your data balance the normal way, it should tell you you have no dataplan. check router balance, you will see unlimited with date that the unlimited will expire. You are not buying data, you are buying bandwidth. check the screenshot below to see the option on opay.

Just choose 30k package, Opay is convenient and instant.

Finally moved to ODU device. 10% better because Airtel network in my area is poor.

To make the Android TV box useful, I got USB to LAN adapter (attached) as an ethernet connection to the ODU. So life continues.

Afternoon to you all,

I will like to give an honest review of the airtel smartbox router. The airtel smartbox router was advertised as one of the cheapest mobile alternatives for unlimited internet in nigeria. A first i was skeptical, but at the end i made a purchase through a marketer

PRICE OF ROUTER IS[b] 25K[/b]
MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION IS 30K

SERVICE DELIVERY IS 55%
VALUE FOR MONEY IS 60%

WILL I SUBSCRIBE AGAIN, YES & NO.

Everything depends on what you want to use it for. I bought the box to be used in our small office of 5 people. The service delivery has been with many outages within a day. If you plan on using it as your day to day internet, you will be disappointed. At times, the services just disappears, it appears again but internet very slow. Atimes, you connect your tv and your tv is streaming but your phone and other gadget will not connect. Its not advisable to be used as your full time internet because of constant disappointments. Even to make whatsapp call will become annoying. You have to switch it on and off like 10 times ina day or you have to factory reset before your internet comes back.

If you plan to use it for just downloads, then i will say its worth it., but mind you, your downloads will be very slow during day but very fast during late night from 10 pm. The funniest thing about airtel is that my phone will have good network and fast internet but the router will be completely out unless you restart it, or atimes, the internet becomes very slow on the router while it will be blazing fast on the phone.

VERDICT: If you are big time download freak, you can buy the router, but your downloads will mostly be fast at night or midnight.
Avoid it as your go to for a full days reliable internet. If you work on the web i.e, online jobs, just avoid it as the netwoek will always disappoint you.

I will advise you to just subscribe to your local isp like cobranet, ipnx etc than subcribe to this airtel unlimited plans.

ARE THE PLANS TRULY UNLIMITED?.. Yes i think they are unlimited with a catch. if you use upto 250gb, your speed will be slowed down, so you cant really do much on it except to browse the internet.

This is my honest review given after 2 months of using this router.

You have to disable DHCP on your smart TV router.

And set it to 192.168.1.1
Also remove SIM from old router

There are two variants of the smart TV router, I attached a guide for one. Let me know if this works for you

THE 5G ODU, I GET AROUND 30 TO 60 Mbps CONNECTION...IT HAS TOW WIFI SPECTRUM 2.4GHX AND 5GHZ WHICH IS FASTER. AM ENJOYING IT NOW, AFTER 2 WEEK OR A MONTH TESTING, I WILL GIVE MY HONEST REVIEW.

How much did you get it? And are you getting value for money? Just making sure before I run into anymore financial and mental hassle. I currently use spectranet and it’s been HELL lately with that one.

Spectranet has been thrash lately. The airtel 5g box is the best., i use the 4g smartbox before now and its thrash. The 5g odu box is miles better than the 4g smart box. About 10 people use my 5g odu box. i connect my phone and laptop on the 5ghz wifi spectrum which is faster than the 2.4 ghz. To enjoy it, make sure that there is a stable 5g network in your area, if not you will cry...Its been a superb experience lately as someone recommended it here...

Bought airtel smartbox and it's been good. I know there's no unlimited shit so I subscribe according to my ability.

It has cast feature. And you can install your own apps on it through Google play store or downloader

I think I have the newer version of the Airtel Smartbox and I have tried all to connect it to my ODU. Nothing. I have used the USB to ethernet connector.

Ok. Thanks for the feedback. I have earlier done this. Still nothing.

By the way, I used the USB ethernet adapter. Just wondering what is the function of the ethernet port on the Smartbox if one has to use an adapter on the usb port.

Will try it again this evening when I get home.

Also the ODU Router, should it be on Bridge or normal Router setting.

What they meant was when you buy the router, it'll come with a special unlimited access for a specific period (which is usually the first month) which is just a perk for buying the device.

I bought the router last month and the initial data given was exhausted happily I proceeded to buying the 30k unlimited after a week usage it just wasn’t connecting i called customer service only for them to tell me my data is exhausted how isn’t it unlimited they said it’s 100gb.
I proceed to X(twitter) @airtel Nigeria this is the screenshot of our conversation. I am taking them up as this is pure fraud.

No initially it came with unlimited data people with the old box still use the unlimited data today even with subsequent data recharges the new box is simply 100GB even if you recharge the unlimited package again it still 100GB and not the unlimited like advertised.
