Women Block Disco Officials From Disconnecting Power by adenigga(op): 3:44pm On Mar 27
A viral video has captured the moment a group of women confronted officials of an Electricity Distribution Company who attempted to disconnect their electricity despite months of poor power supply.

In the video which started trending on Friday, the women, speaking in Yoruba, accused DisCo of failing to provide electricity for three months.

‘’We have not had light yet you still want to disconnect our wire? For three months you have not given us power. We all sleep outside now”

The women formed a human shield around the ladder brought by the officials, preventing them from climbing the pole to carry out the disconnection. When one of the officials attempted to shove a woman aside, others quickly surrounded him in protest.

The video has drawn mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians applauding the women for standing their ground in the face of persistent power outages.

In a separate video, an enraged man was also seen confronting DisCo officials attempting to disconnect power. Speaking in Yoruba, he said: “There is no money, no light, nothing… yet you still want to disconnect the power?”

Nigeria has experienced widespread electricity shortages in recent months. Just two days ago, the Minister of Power apologised for the nationwide poor power supply, assuring citizens that the situation would improve within two weeks.

Yeah, these people are part of why we don't have light.

I mean , they refuse to pay for the power they use and somehow expect power to improve magically.

And like Nigerians, like their leaders.

Anyone quoting me to abuse me, remember that there are many people who are not paying for the power they use over the decades and that means that the sector has been losing money to pay for improvement

Which is why we don't have light in the first place

Also there are many who have had no light yet don't get disconnected because they still pay their bills

Finally, government is forcing the power sector to charge less than the production cost of power to help the poor. Result losses and thus no money to pay gas companies and no light.

If you don't understand this, sorry I.

For failing to pay the bills for electricity access and supply.

If everyone fails to pay their bills how will the service provider pay for inputs, including the salary of workers huh

In any case, city boy’s All Promises Cancelled, APC party has made adequate electricity available for Nigerians.

The government should make prepaid meters compulsory for every household. This would encourage people to regulate their electricity usage more carefully. In the area where I recently relocated with my family, I initially thought residents in that area did not have power supply. Later, I realised that some of them deliberately switch off some of their appliances to reduce consumption because they are using prepaid meters. This shows that people are becoming conscious of how their energy use affects their expenses, which ultimately helps to reduce overall consumption in the area.

However, with estimated billing, the situation is different. People tend to leave inefficient bulbs and appliances on without concern. It also creates opportunities for electricity officials to cut corners by collecting bribes from consumers who should normally make payments directly to the electricity office.

you seems not to get the point. The major people who pays for electricity where moved to bandit to pay ransom, and those stakeholders realised its cheaper to install solar than to oay that ransom of a bill. Now they are now having shortfalls in the area of income to buy gas and do other maintenance. The funny thing is ego will not let them reverse the policy and i am sure power will not recover under this administration.

Some people are not smart at all.

EQ, nada. IQ, zero.

Extremely high fuel price, literally zero electricity for weeks now. People are frustrated and angry but you think it's best for you carry ladder to go and disconnect service lines. You no even fear for your life.

He's even lucky say na women dey challenge am. He could have been in a situation where street thugs pounce on him with bottles, cutlasses, daggers and guns. Everyone's eye is red right now, even government workers and are looking for means to exert their frustration.

If you work for any DISCO, you better give yourself OT. To go out to dey share bills self suppose dey fear you.

If people maim you, another person will replace you at work instanta. Sara!

Why are they disconnecting them from the poles? Why not get them prepaid meter and keep off their lives?. They have the right to defend themselves.

i get the point but again the leaders have used hunger to put the people under subjection. Go to the villages and see hunger personified
Re: Women Block Disco Officials From Disconnecting Power by Stanna2025: 7:06am On Mar 28
I don't agree with you. I would rather say the people themselves are too selfish and greedy, this is what fuels accepting crumbs to accept evil. Our mentality needs to change, cuz everyone wants to escape poverty by any means because they think poverty is when money is involved but they fail to realize that poverty here has got nothing to do with money rather poverty is when someone possesses a very low mental capabilities unfortunately 98% of Nigerians are extremely poor including the politicians

All the hundreds of thousands of prepaid meters that were supposed to be for the masses, what happened to them? Because all these issues will reduce drastically if they were in place.

It also creates opportunities for electricity officials to cut corners by collecting bribes from consumers who should normally make payments directly to the electricity office.
Nigeria's power company officials actually prefer NOT to let Nigerians have prepaid meters installed, because that refusal to install prepaid meters opens the door to those officials VASTLY inflating and falsifying the readings of old, outdated and easily rigged power meters, for the purpose of deliberately bankrupting their users.

In some pats of Nigeria, that withholding of prepaid meters triggers cheated electricity consumers to either refuse to pay for fabricated and falsified bills, or to request that electricity power cables to their properties be disconnected so they can use generators or solar power installations instead of paying criminal gangs that operate power companies in Nigeria.

That refusal to pay inflated electricity bills is, however, EXACTLY what the power company crime syndicates are praying for BECAUSE they can then hire lawyers who will take their customers to court, EVEN IF those customers have been long disconnected from the national power grid.

Whenever the court rules against an electricity consumer who refuses to pay those extortionate rates concocted by the power company, the entire landed property including real estate holdings and corporate assets, can be SIEZED and SOLD for cash by the power company mafia. That legalized theft of private property by the power company mafia is the end game of their entire charade that starts with inflating power consumption meter readings, along with denial of electrical power and refusal to issue prepaid meters, that culminates with the court-approved seizure and sale of private or corporate property running into billions of naira nationwide.

The only way out of the trap set by those criminal gangs masquerading as power company officials, is the MANDATORY issuance of prepaid meters NATIONWIDE. The prepaid meters would put an abrupt and final end to the current criminal racket that starts with the crafty issuance of grossly falsified monthly bills for electrical power not consumed, leading up to the subsequent court-legitimized theft of landed property and assets by the power company mafia. This is why the power company gangs would rather DIE than allow people to acquire those treasured prepaid power consumption meters.

Well, I doubt that the power companies would agree to dash out their power for free, and I doubt that anyone would want to invest in the power sector, since you are insisting that the power sectors should just give you free power...without anyone paying for it.

And since you want free power, the power sector isn't going to have money to pay for improvements et al. And corruption is going to flourish since the power sector needs to make money to survive, meaning ripoffs like estimated billing and inflated bills.

It doesn't matter anyway, you are rich enough to give solar power to all those poor people.
