President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma, who passed away on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, after an illness.

Tinubu conveyed his condolences in a statement signed on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President described the late matriarch of the El-Rufai family as a woman who lived a remarkable life and raised children and grandchildren who have contributed greatly to Nigeria.

Tinubu, who also lost his mother in old age, said he understands the depth of El-Rufai’s loss.

“Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother, Hajiya Umma, which happened today in Cairo.

“As someone who had also lost an old mother, I share in your grief. I understand the depth of your loss,” the President stated.

He added, “Losing a mother is a pain unlike any other. I know that no words can fully ease your sorrow, but I pray that the memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance bring you comfort in the days ahead.

“I also hope you find strength in the remarkable life she lived and the values she instilled in the entire family.”

The President expressed faith that the deceased had fulfilled her earthly purpose according to divine will.

“As firm believers in Allah, we are convinced that she has played her part in this world as laid out for her by the Almighty and has gone back to her maker,” Tinubu said.

He joined family, friends, and well-wishers in mourning with El-Rufai, praying that Allah grants the deceased Aljannah Firdaus (the highest level of Paradise in Islamic belief).

El-Rufai served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 under the All Progressives Congress platform.

He had previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007 under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Kudos to Mr President, he doesn't play politics of bitterness.

Correct a child with the right hand and use the left to pat him.

But it won't stop Elrufai from going back into his cell immediately after the burial.

Death is inevitable for all of us.
We should play politics with openess and sincerity.
Not with hatred and bitterness.
Condolence accepted in spirit of sportsmanship and not in political spirit, cos the opposition continues.

I hope you realize that he would have been held only if there were substance to the ICPC’s charges. Yet he was released without issue, just like that.

This whole drama is nothing more than witch-hunting, an attempt to gag the opposition, stifle dissent, and strangle democratic space. Nothing more, nothing less.

Indeed. People forget same Tinubu ignored El Rufai for sooooooo long.

Yet El Rufai, the poster boy of the Fulani born-to-rule supremacists who believe they are above Nigeria and all Nigerians, would not stop because him and his crew believe all Southern leaders are like Jonathan they can bully and intimidate without repercussion.

After El Rufai boldly declared he engaged in a conspiracy to spy on our NSA, I personally knew and declared that all that is happening now would happen to El Rufai.

It is very simple. PBAT is a consummate political leader. One of the best, if not the best, in Nigeria.

He fully understands that the minute others succeed to make it appear you are not in charge as a leader, as El Rufai and co are trying to do, then that is the beginning of your end as a leader.

When El Rufai confessed to the entire world he committed an act of treasonable felony, hoping to embarrass and undermine the PBAT Goverment, what different response, than the take-down of El Rufai, should be expected from all brave leaders who know how to wield power and understand the folly of appearing weak to the world and especially to your enemies?
