Ali Fouladvand, head of research at Iran’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, a successor to the country’s pre-2004 nuclear weapons program, was killed along with members of his family in airstrikes on Borujerd on Saturday morning, Iranian media reported.

Iranian media described him as “an ordinary citizen” while reporting his death, despite SPND’s role in overseeing sensitive military-related research.

Fouladvand had survived an earlier attack during the 12-day war last June, in which his wife, Masoumeh Pirhadi, was killed.

In the 1960s the KGB founded several liberation fronts to oppose democracies and capitalism, such as the as the National Liberation Army of Bolivia (1964), the National Liberation Army of Colombia (1965), and the PLO (1964).

Note that the PLO was founded *before* 1967 and not in response to it. As Pacepa, deputy chief of the Romanian foreign intelligence service said:
"The PLO was dreamt up by the KGB, which had a penchant for 'liberation' organizations...First, the KGB destroyed the official records of Arafat's birth in Cairo, and replaced them with fictitious documents saying that he had been born in Jerusalem and was therefore a Palestinian by birth."

Before that Arabs in Palestine saw themselves as part of the Arab Nation or of Greater Syria. For example Zuhair Muhsin, PLO commander said in 1977 “(there is) no distinction between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. ... The existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes.” “(it is) a new tool in the continuing battle against Israel.”

The new national identity supplied an excuse for continuing the conflict despite the balanced population swap between Israel and the Arabs, and was part of the USSR extensive propaganda machine against Israel (The USSR had first proposed a UN resolution that would condemn Zionism as colonialism and racism in 1965).

Pacepa and Arafat met with General Giap that was involved with Vietnam War propaganda. He recommended to Arafat that he “stop talking about annihilating Israel and instead turn your terror war into a struggle for human rights.” It had worked in Vietnam, he claimed, because transforming the conflict from one of ideologies to one of an “indigenous” people’s struggle for liberty had turned the tide of popular support in the West.

Muhammed Yazid, minister of information of Algeria wrote to Arafat “wipe out the argument that Israel is a small state whose existence is threatened by the Arab States, or the reduction of the Palestinian problem to a question of refugees; instead present the Palestinian struggle as one for liberation like the others. Wipe out the impression that in the struggle between the Palestinians and Zionists, the Zionist is the underdog. Now it is the Arab who is oppressed and victimized in his existence because he is not only facing the Zionists but also world imperialism.”
