5000 is roughly 4 litres

That is approx 120km maybe 100km when you remove efficiency

Your average keke trip is 1 to 2km at n200 to n 300 per passenger. A trip with three people is
n900

The story makes no mathematical sense and I am sure most actual keke riders are supporting him by being silent
No mathematical sense at all.

The patronage obviously becomes lesser with the increase. I think that's the assumption you're getting wrong.

The roads are currently free in Lagos.

Ibiye to Agbara is 300 naira with Keke. This was the old price at 870/ltr. I still entered it at 300 naira today.

Alakija to 3rd avenue was 500 at the old rate with Okada. It is still 500 to 600 now at 1320/ltr

While I agree with you that 50 naira profit is not true, The increase doesn't mean more money. It brings a lesser patronage for them.

People will rather trek, lap themselves, find private vehicle to beg or get a lift, or find alternative means than pay the increase.
Amoto94:
I was reading to see whether others will point out to him that an increase in fuel price often leads to decrease in patronage for transport workers. His assumptions fall flat when you consider the fact that there are less people on the road hence fewer people boarding vehicles per trip for the transporter.
Most of you have misunderstood the key point.
Yes, an increase in fuel price can reduce patronage, fewer people may travel, and some may resort to trekking if their destinations are not far. But no driver will leave the park with half-full vehicle.

The real question is: how many commuters will actually resort to trekking?
That number is relatively small.
For instance, can you trek from the mainland to the island?
Of course not.
This means a large percentage of commuters still have no choice but to use transport.
People still go to work, school, and markets. So the idea that a driver operates on ₦5,000 worth of fuel and ends up with just ₦50 profit is just LAMBA of the year.

Yes, the number of trips per day may reduce, also your vehicle fuel consumption will also reduce accordingly.
For example, if a driver normally makes 12 trips daily and it drops to 8, their total earnings will naturally be lower than when they made 12 trips, but I believe the increase in fares should help compensate for the reduced demand.

The only way this argument would make sense is if the driver is consistently operating with half-empty passenger loads from the park on every trip. But realistically, even a mad man would not do that, especially with the current high cost of fuel.

It’s possible to make about ₦50 after buying ₦5,000 worth of fuel (around 3.5 liters) in Warri, especially if the driver runs three trips from Ekpan Expression Junction to PTI without carrying a full load.
😂 😂 😂
Who does Dat, that is madness .

An increase in fuel price WILL reduce patronage.

Nobody's salary has increased since fuel ran up to 1320. What do you think they will do?

Mr A earns 200k, and spends 20k on transport monthly.

Now, he would be spending 28k on transport, and also food and other issues have increased, yet his salary remains the same. You don't think he will cut his cost?

Number of trips will obviously reduce, and you can verify from anyone you know personally.

Go to Interstate garages and see vehicles littered everywhere, with drivers sleeping in it. Some might be in the queue for 3 days, and e never reach their turn sef, because no passengers.

Nobody wants to lose in this situation

The driver won't leave the park with half filled passengers.
The passenger will not just pay any amount because you said so. He will also, by any means, reduce it for himself

in lagos a keke is not intended for long trips [though this is still abused]
no one will take a keke from lagos to mainland. in a hurry eg job interview [people will take okada - but it is dangerous and actually illegal]
charge for okada / keke is not uniform. a 3 - 5 minute ride that is n300, can be called n400 or n500.
people are more likely to pay higher at night because it may not be safe to walk home
if i am being charged over my threshold, i simply walk some distance and try again.

some people are on a very tight budget and will simply opt out. at its core, a lot of transport within festac is about convenience. i can and sometimes chose to take a 10 minute walk to a shopping mall rather than take a two minute okada ride to the same place.
most teenagers take okada to school from home, but prefer to walk home in groups unless it is raining

It's amusing seeing him write paragraphs upon paragraphs trying to use his theoretical knowledge based on assumptions to invalidate the transporters' practical experience.

Since yesterday I just dey read all his assumptions with amusement and chose to keep quite lest people think my agreement with the transporter's experience is based on my dislike for the incumbent government.

One of the major mistake he's making that flaws his argument is the fact that he thinks keke riders can increase their fares at the same rate buses, cabs and taxi drivers do. Most keke ply short distances that are within communities. Most of the routes keke ply are trekkable, so the moment u decide to increase the cost per trip from 200 to 400 because fuel which used to be N850 less than a month ago is now N1,300; majority of potential customers will trek. At some point you will be forced to reduce the price to say maybe N250 and this will definitely lead to a loss in the long run.(The reason why you would reduce the price is because you have limited time to work with ghe keke if you are not the owner. You won't sit on your fuel hoping a customer that will pay higher fare will come when you know you will give the Keke to someone else to work with in the evening)

Another major point he's overlooking is the fact that as at the time the guy made the video he just finished his first round of trips and needed to refuel only for him to discover he's only been able to gain N50 on the initial N5,000 he spent on fuel. That does not necessarily mean the guy will make N50 on the next N5,000 fuel he will buy because from thereon he will have to increase his fares which should increase his bottom line and that is if he sees customers desperate enough to patronize him based on the new price.(Of course, this will depend on how important where those guys are going and how unwilling they are to trek)

The bottom line is that Keke rider's story is not necessarily false considering those were his major trips that morning; he's more likely to adjust his price afterwards the moment he buys the next batch fuel to avoid running that day at a loss. And yes! There will be low patronage going forward ; some of the Keke riders may even decide to focus strictly on charter like people running provisions store chartering them to help carry their goods when they go to restock or food sellers ordering them to help ferry their wares to the market and back home in the evening.

Below is the video which may seem like cruise to anybody who isn't close to those in the lower rungs of the society, but things on the streets are far worse than people are saying on the internet. I can't even count the number of times men with families will strategically perch at car parks of malls, stores and supermarkets like Jendol, etc, approach you to please buy any food item for them to take to their families. Some would even hold one of their kids and you can see they don't even want money but just food to fill their belly.

If person dey talk online wetin person dey see regularly on the streets, he go be like person dey exaggerate to make the government look really really bad.

US military bases have been obliterated by IRGC.. Now they're looking to purchase mobile bunkers for their soldiers who are now working remotely.

The U.S. Defense Department is looking for companies that can quickly supply prefabricated, transportable bunkers to protect troops amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.

bolded is the major point, Keke's increase can't be like that of buses or korope.
Keke along my route have increased prices from 150 to 200 and on one other route the price hasn't changed from 200.

Buses and Korope along the area have increased from 1000 to 1500 and 300 to 400.

Along my route their profit margins have shrunk.

However, keke's that operate long routes might still be in profit.
Keke along another route increased from 500 to 700, they should still be in profit.

Something happened in Nigeria in April 2017 that shocked everyone. The ending of this story will shock you even more.

The EFCC received information about a large amount of money being kept inside a private apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The information came through a whistleblower.

Then on the 12th of April 2017, EFCC officers went to the flat at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi.

When they entered the apartment, they found large sums of money kept inside metal cabinet and Ghana must go bag.

The money was all in cash.

After counting, the EFCC discovered about 43 million dollars, 27,800 British pounds and 23 million Naira.

All in cash.

The apartment was quickly sealed and the money was taken into EFCC custody.

As investigation continued, the apartment and the money were linked to Folashade Oke.

Fulashade Oke is the wife of Ayodele Oke.

At that time, Ayodele Oke was the director general of the National Intelligence Agency.

President Mohammadu Buhari ordered his immediate suspensions as the director general of the National Intelligence Agency to allow for investigation.

Court documents later showed that the apartment was bought in 2015 through a company and that company was led by Folashade Oke and her son, and the apartment was reportedly purchased with cash.

Omo cash was flowing then.

During the investigations, there were allegations that the money found in the apartment could be unlawful public funds suspected to have been diverted while Ayodele Oke was the head of intelligence agency.

By November 2017 the matter had reached the Federal High Court in Lagos In early November the EFCC summoned Ayodele Oke and his wife to appear for questioning in connection with the cash discovery.

On November 9, 2017, the Federal High Court ordered the interim forfeiture of the Ikoyi apartment and the entire sum of money to the federal government of Nigeria.

The court then gave a period of 14 days for any person or organization to come forward and show why the property and the money should not be permanently forfeited to the government.

But no successful legal claim was established.

The court later ordered the finance official of the cash and the apartment to the federal government.

The whistleblower who provided the information was rewarded under the federal whistleblowing policy.

In 2019, the EFCC declared Ayodele Oke and his wife wanted, after they failed to appear in court, to face charges later to the money laundry and unlawful possessions of funds.

The case remained in court for several years. Because the man and his wife had fled the country long before for acclaimed medical reasons.

And then finally, in June 2023, the EFCC applied to withdraw the charges. Why?.

The commission told the court that the withdrawal was based on national security considerations.

The Federal High Court granted the request.

And that was how the charges were struck out.

And the case was brought to an end, just like that.

Now guess what? Here's the shocker...

The same Ayodele Oke is now Nigerian's ambassador-designate to France.

He was nominated by President Tinubu and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.

Do not scratch your ear.
You indeed heard what I said.

Welcome to our motherland.
