OlujobaSamuel:it's far fetched.... But not totally impossible. The value of the manufactured goods exported by Netherlands is like 5X of Nigeria's total oil revenue. These are just manufactured goods ( 20 percent of All exported goods) , excluding machines, industrial equipment , Agricultural and other goods. The Netherlands has a landmass of approximately our Southeast region's. Like I Said, it's far fetched, but the possibility Is never Zero. |

OlujobaSamuel:So you too fell for the lie that China doesn't have oil? ![]() This is why I hate arguing on this forum because it's a big waste of time to engage uninformed people. What would I be dragging with someone who doesn't even know that China is one of the largest producers, importers and exporters of oil in the world? One even claimed the Chinese textile industry was what helped the Chinese economy and that one too is false, what helped the Chinese economy is innovations and resilience from the citizens. The mindset of producing and producing. An average Chinese man is a producer of one thing or the other. What helped and still helping the Chinese country and people is EXPORTATION, their exportation drive is simply higher than IMPORTATION unlike Nigeria and Africa where reliance heavily outweighs production. The textile industry of China's success can be attributed to both the Government and individuals' efforts and high quest for success. Another lamba's supporter suggested banning the importation of textiles forgetting that we used to buy a bag of rice for 7000 naira until one calamity befell Nigeria and this calamity banned the importation of rice and even gave local farmers several incentives. What serious country and economy even thinks of banning importations? Where is it done? The ones that are saying the FG should ban importation have even forgotten that their messiah is one of the largest importers in this country🤣 |

| Re: Aba’s Garment, Footwear Industry Can Rival Oil Revenue — Peter Obi by dequir: 12:26pm On Mar 29 |
PHIPEX:So what has been stopping the Aba people from taking advantage of your so called massive industry and turning it into a huge money making venture bigger than our oil industry? To their advantage, they now have 24 hrs supply of electricity, and banks are there to finance any project, so what's stopping them? Let Mr. Obi come and tell us his perceived hindrances to this big dream he has for Aba costumes industry. |

dequir:Instead of 24/7 electricity what President Tinubu has for us is an apology for not providing electricity for Nigeria as he promised. If he continues to fail to keep his promise by 2027 I will not vote for Tinubu. I encourage all Nigerians who mean well for Nigeria to do likewise so other politicians can learn to serve their country faithfully. What Nigeria needs now is to stamp out corruption and provide electricity. Before anyone here thinks I hate Tinubu or am a partisan politician I must say that the lack of power does not affect me in any way. I have a perfectly reliable alternative that is environmentally friendly meeting my power needs. I am interested in the common good. |

| Re: Aba’s Garment, Footwear Industry Can Rival Oil Revenue — Peter Obi by OlujobaSamuel: 12:37pm On Mar 29 |
ceejayluv:Yea, as you said, it's possible but far fetched. Eg, Netherlands that you mentioned is also an oil nation, and one of the highest exporter in Europe. Nigeria do not have a comparative advantage to push for such this time, if not it will create a crisis never anticipated in the economy. Eg, take a look at the FG policy on Rice, it affected not just rice but other staple food, as it affected demand. Btw, I don't subscribe to impossibility, but some things are not worth the stress. The govt should rather go for value addition over agric produce wasting away or being exported raw at different villages |

| Re: Aba’s Garment, Footwear Industry Can Rival Oil Revenue — Peter Obi by OlujobaSamuel: 12:41pm On Mar 29 |
UrVillageChief:No sir, I wasn't interested in having that line of argument, I was just comparing natural resources in the broad sense than limiting to oil. I was about responding to his 2nd mention of you that China isn't having oil before seeing your post again. He seems not to be aware that China is one of the highest oil producing nation in the world I never even knew someone is having same view on Rice policy, if you looked up, you will see that I also shared similar view |

| Re: Aba’s Garment, Footwear Industry Can Rival Oil Revenue — Peter Obi by lawani(m): 12:52pm On Mar 29 |
Countries like Bangladesh and Vietnam are competitive in garment making only because of very low wages then they have better infrastructure than Nigeria and that will lower their operations cost. To compete with them you have to upgrade your infrastructure and pay even lower wages than them. If there are ten million people working in the garment and leather sectors then the activity will be larger than oil and gas. |

Must everything be tribalized you people? Do you even know how much only footbwear industry around the world is worth, let alone joined with the textile industry? Do you know how many countries in Europe and Asia that 90% of their GDP comes from the textile industry alone? Sometime you guys should remove this log of tribalism that has eaten so deep into the fabrics of this country, and be sensible. Richtaiwo: |
