No Jonathan only inherited a great economy from umaru yar adua
Yar adua ran the economy on obasanjo’s blue prints
There was no policies of his own

Jonathan built the economy solely on his one blue prints and policies that drove the economy
Spot the difference

Yar adua was a good president no doubt but don’t compare him to Jonathan on economy drive.
Jonathan was just too kind and naive, he trusted those around him so easily and failed to see the dangers

That’s why I like Tinubu, the man go look you for eye tell you say you be betrayal and him go remove you and there’s nothing you can do about it because he knows how to bend/manipulate the law to allow him have his way.

@Mr poser, the question you should be asking is if the economy actually paid you that amount or if it was borrowed to pay you? I can remember vividly that salaries were owed and borrowed during this era

Stop trying to make it look like GEJ was a saint. They stole their own money as well. The only difference is that APC knows that politicians only want money and is taking advantage of it. Isn't it during PDP period that snake swallowed money?

The exchange rate was gradually declining because politicians kept stealing money that would have developed this country. Now the country is decaying even further with APC in power.
let's be clear...snake, monkey, rats all ate money during the Buhari/APC administration, not PDP. PDPs many lies no stupid rish that level

Why couldn’t buhari and bat maintain it or make it better

Buhari inherited an economy that was already failing in quote for several months.

In 2014, March, oil prices started falling. People who had seen the same story before in 1982, began nodding their heads like agama agama. By January 2015, NOI was prophesying that the economy would be bad, regardless of who won.

So, yes GEJ handed over a bad economy to buhari. Na high oil price he dey use to hide the cracks.

The problem with Buhari and tinubu is that instead of using hard times to shine, dem come dey do borrow borrow to maintain what we had when oil prices were high, because the sane decisions they needed to take to pull us out of danger, they no take because they preferred to be in power rather than do the hard decisions to leave Nigeria a good leagacy

All of our leaders are the same.

So, that means that GEJ had bad government?

Remember the same grid collapses under Timunubu...happened under GEJ, promax.

The reason why the power supply does not work is because GEJ signed a privatizaiton law that prevented them from setting their prices. See the result. (Buhari and tinubu maintained the law).

Also, the man failed to fight corruption, and also refused to commot subsidy totally, because he wanted to get elected. Same reasoning tinubu is using now to refuse to remove electricity subsidy.

The day you realize all our leaders from independence to date are the same in that government revenue comes from whatever raw mateiral we sell, not taxes and what we produce by industries for export, is the day you go stop saying God bless GEJ.

I no dey like APC. Everything your GEJ does, APC dey do am. GEJ in turn just repeated the same mistakes all the predecessors made.

You guys, be it APC, PDP, ADC , always settle for less. You deserve better.

Subsidy had to go because the cost to our economy was excessive

Buhari was literally borrowing and printing money to pay for subsides. Because oil revenues had been low since 2014 due to falling oil prices and falling production. That led to the situation in August 2022 where debt servicing was eating 97% of revenue

Had subsidy not been removed in 2023, by now things would have been ten times worse than they are now.

There are good reasons why the subsidy had to go. It was seen since 1993.
So, I look like someone you can enlighten politically and economically...

Well, you don';t have to agree with me, or believe me, but what I have told you is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I am not here to convince you to vote for tinubu or that tinubu is a good leader, or that GEJ was good or bad...I am just here to tell you why nigeria is the way it is, and what we need to do to improve it.

You can accept all I say or reject it, and still support your hero. As for me, I no send our leaders or the oppostion, or even sowore, and his ilk. Na the same people to me.

Before I continue, I am not here to defend or support tinubu...let's get that clear. I'm here to show you why Nigeria is the way it is. You can hear me, understand me, and sitll say your hero is better than their hero. But whatever you do, do not call me a supporter of any politican.

Crude oil is above 100 dollars per barrel, infact, it is rising

The problem is, from March 2014 to february ending 2015, crude has ranged between 20-80 dollars per barrel (except for brief periods when oil prices were above 100 dollars per barrel in 2021-2, and in 2025. )>

So, in order to keep things running, Nigeria borrowed money.

Any oil windfall has to pay off the debts we incurred in the lean years, and thus no cash for subsidy no more.

That is why APC is a failure, they promised in 2015, that they would diversify government earnings from oil. They didnt do that, and that is why there is no money for fuel subsidy, and why electricity subsidy money has not been paid since 2014.

Thank you for listening to my ted x talk.

If removing subsidy now by Tinubu is the best move, what has he done with it after the removal?
How has it improved our economy after the removal?
And why is he borrowing and doing so at the fastest rate than ever after the removal?
Where is the borrowing helping the economy as well?

So you want us to go into debt because you want cheap fuel?

Once you understand how subsidy works, you will see it is not about taking anybody's sweat

It is taking tomorrow's money to solve today's problems and also stflijg domestic production in the name of cheap fuel or cheap power

It has nothing to do with Tinubu or Obi

And if you call me an APC supporter you miss the point totally and you are being abusive too to boot.

You are deceiving yourselves. Which debt?? With the removal of Fuel subsidy, is the government not owing worse than what Jonathan was owing.

Keep deceiving yourselves o

Nigeria was way better than Italy in 2007 even up to 2009 we were better.

This isn't true.

Despite their very well known problems, they were (and still are) an EU member. Membership comes with strict rules on how member economies should be run - and breaking those rules can be very costly (as Greece eventually found out). So far at least, Italy has played by the rules.

Nigeria still has a very, very long way to go before getting to single digit inflation rates. Italy had those numbers in 2007.

it's at all time high but emefiele and Buhari had already sold what we have not even produce for 5 years... Price goes up. Or not the have taken the money and spent it, that's why it's hard for Dangote to get crude oil for the refinery.. Emiefele has used his own part of the money to build those estates, malami schools and hotels, can't even count the rest sef.
You are not being sincere to yourself here, why are you calling Emefiele, was he the finance minister, was he the head of fiscal policy?
Instead of you to mention APC name, no you carefully avoided the main culprits like osibanjo and other APC members. I know you wouldn't have mentioned Buhari name if he was still alive.

before you call people names on a public fora it shows the kind of mentality you are and the kind of person you are.. I won't stoop low to that level because of a baseless argument that won't add a dime into my account.
The finance minister is not the supervisor of the CBN governor.. That entity ought to be independent entity, Emefiele created means and ways.. Buhari was the minister of petroleum without both Nigerian crude oil won't have been sold in futures trade as a collateral loan from AfDB.
Get your facts right before you call people names on the internet.
