From the comments I read from South Africans, it's all African foreigners especially Nigerians they want gone not Igbos.

Why must you go to another man’s land and take actions that will Cause chaos?
You guys don’t learn from Ghana and the pushback?
You’re causing problems for other peace loving foreigners now who can’t step outside

Goan siddan
You people, though fellow Nigerians, started this against the Igbos hence outsiders learnt from you. The Yorubas and Hausa/Fulanis have their obas and sarikis in the East yet we Igbos don't complain. You guys started the hatred first.
But no wahala,Igbos keep thriving, regardless

Angelfrost:
If you had called it "Igbo leader" or Igbo Association Chairman, would there have been any issue?!!

Nope... You just had to go overboard by doing a kingship ceremony and publicly call it a coronation right in the face of South Africans, who already seek opportunities to be xenophobic.

No respect, no cultural sensitivity or awareness.

Just the sheer arrogance and disregard to think another man's community is yours to take and do whatever you like.

1. Who is you people. I am a Nigerian

2. Watch the video below . Does that owambe look like a coronation to you?

3. The Ghana issue was pushed by a set of people who were NOT representative of the entirety of well behaved Ghanaians

What SA law does the coronation violate? Do you think it is possible for the people to carry out coronation without approval from SA authorities? Whatever thing they do within the boundaries of the laws of their host country should not lead to protest.
^^^
Finally.

A post that addresses the key issues.

Some news reports indicate that the coronation does violate South African law:

"However, the Eastern Cape House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders has distanced itself from the development, warning that the action undermines established traditional governance structures recognised under South African law, according to MDN News.

The disputed location falls within the jurisdiction of King Jonguxolo Vululwandle Sandile of the amaRharhabe Kingdom, a factor that has further heightened the sensitivity of the situation.

In a statement, the House described the installation as a breach of customary practices and a violation of the legal framework guiding traditional leadership in the country.

According to the body, no group has the authority to create or recognise a kingship structure outside the provisions of the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act."

Those on the ground in South Africa should confirm if any laws have been broken. Has the SA government issued a statement on this matter?

Then that's why the SA no nonsense people are making you to commit seppuku (self annihilation) in their country for non adherence to their cultural preferences.
So after numerous organizations came out to explain the event the people still wanted to cause problem.

You don't know SA people.

Anything Naija, Somali or ZImbabwe na problem for them because those 3 groups are the most successful.

Thanks.

I was watching it just before your post came in.

Nigeria's acting high Commissioner did what diplomats are supposed to do: pour oil on troubled waters. He made sure he highlighted the strength of the bilateral relationship before describing this whole coronation saga as "a social gathering carried too far". He also described the new 'Igwe' as "a person acting out of ignorance".

Nigeria's acting High Commissioner basically asked the general public to disregard the evidence of their own eyes concerning this coronation - and it is understandable why he took that position. De-escalation is the only sensible option now before people get hurt.

We are all waiting to see if the SA police will prosecute the criminals who went round burning, looting and destroying things. That will prove whether SA is a country of laws or not. But having said that, this Igwe's coronation does seem to be illegal under SA law - if the SA authorities want to make an example out of him, the law is fully on their side.

Whem I first heard of this coronation business, I said its promoters were just asking for trouble. Events have proved that view right.

[quote author=LegendHero post=138937528]WATCH | The March & March movement has joined the protest in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape to protest against the Igbo coronation.

, to say the least
But, why do the police keep using rubber bullets. Dint they have tear gas?
Also, they seem to be more tolerant to the white people than fellow Africans. In as much as I am not supporting what they tagged violation of their traditional norms, I have never seen them protesting against the excesses of the white people that hitherto control their Commonwealth proceeds of the apartheid dispossession of their land. Same policy that relegated their human capital. Poverty still looks in a country of plenty and knowledge among the indigents is still at the lowest ebb.

What a people.

Before you bash igbos, just know that the SA blacks don’t care about your tribe and they hate you as a Nigerian
Since you know how these people behave, why don't you respect their rules and regulations.
I ask again, it's a must there must be an Igbo king in another man's country ?

Doesn't matter at this point. This video was released last week. An additional communique went out on March 28th from the Union of Nigerians in South Africa but nothing was going to stop this because if you listen carefully its really about the issue SA's have with immigrants in general.

The ambassador also offered to reach out to the royal houses in Eastern cape as well.

Which makes one wonder about the judgement and the motives of the promoters.

'Igwe' and his team know how volatile SA is. They know the attitude of some of the locals towards foreigners - and yet igwe and company still went ahead to poke the bear. undecided There probably were some people on igwe's team who said this coronation isn't a good idea - because it is illegal. But here we are.

I watched the video of the so called "coronation" and I watched the comments that came from the attendees as well and judge it as a group of local socio-cultural Igbos celebrating a very local event that wasn't intended to have the impact that it did but alas we live in the age of social media and people interpret what they see the way they want to.

This was the same reaction to a video of Chidinma Adetshina celebrating in a similar event hosted by a local group in which they hailed her as "ou"r daughter and the South Africans got agitated because she was supposedlly running for Ms. South Africa event.
