The ICA FCT stressed that such coronations have the potential to jeopardise the safety of millions of Igbo people living in diaspora communities. The Igbo Community Association in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja has condemned the reported attempted coronation of an “Ezeigbo” in South Africa, describing the move as illegal and capable of fuelling tensions between Igbo diaspora communities and their host countries.https://saharareporters.com/2026/03/31/igbo-community-association-condemns-ezeigbo-coronation-south-africa-demands-arrest

Some people must have really low self esteem to be so desperate for titles. Why are our brothers so desperate for titles for validation? I have been offered several titles in my town several times, and I always turn them down. |

Samantha125:Igbos are acephalous historically... No central authority. Kingship started therein in less than 100 years ago. I stand to be corrected. |

Samantha125:From what I have observed overtime, once you have money, loads and loads of it and in the Diaspora, plus you must be bored, then you can assume Royalty. This observation cut across. Same with the Yorubas with their numerous Obas all over the Diaspora, same with the Hausa-Fulani Serikis all over the place and yes, with the Igbos too. |

Samantha125:Good question but not well put. Anyways, one can be a king either by inheritance, what you call 'royal' blood or by appointment by the government often with the backing of the people |

Samantha125:It's not really a kingship thing, it's more like the head of their tribe in any community they find themselves. This should never involve any sort of loud ceremony as I see it as very basic position but they will always end up magnifying it that it becomes uncomfortable for the those who welcomed them. |

Igbo elders have previously advised that our people should stop installing themselves as kings in lands that are not theirs. Why are we being stubborn? The Igbo community must address this issue of “Eze ndi Igbo” and instead adopt the title “Onye Ndu ndi Igbo” meaning the "leader of Igbo" to avoid provoking hostility from our hosts. After all, if you come to live in my house, you don’t go against my rules. Ndi Igbo enweghi eze. |
