The Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, has procured and distributed rain capes and boots to all personnel of the State Forest Guard to sustain year-round security operations.

The equipment, deployed through the Office of the Commander, Forest Guard, is to ensure uninterrupted operations across forest and rural terrains as the state enters the peak rainy season.

Security experts note that criminal elements often exploit adverse weather to evade detection and carry out attacks, but with this intervention, the state has effectively denied them that advantage.

The Forest Guard will now sustain bush-combing operations, deep forest patrols, and night surveillance without limitation.

The move reinforces Governor Mbah’s proactive security strategy, which prioritises operational readiness, personnel welfare, and total terrain dominance.

None of the nothern states that is riddled with bandits and terrorists have deemed it fit to establish security outfits like this, but it was easy to establish sharia police…they don’t want to fight the war on terrorism cos they are complicit.

Very commendable. The use of technology like drones will also be very effective in gathering intelligence and monitoring movement of criminal elements.

In Imo, governor Uzodimma is terrified of anything that will be held against him in his future ambition....he allows herders roam about with their cattle....and is yet to inaugurate the state forest guards. The man will even allow herders to graze their cattle in the government house.

Drones can be useful but they are not cost effective. It is not as if crimes are committed in pre planned places and times so you know when and where to place your drones.

The best weapon against crime is communication both as infrastructure and as a culture. The deadliest forms of crime are interpersonal in which both the victim and/or witness can or should be able to communicate immediately and get a quick response.

It is when these are on place technology like drones and capacity like riving patrols and quick response teams can be effective.

Communication to report emergencies and inhouse communication amongst security units and agents is critical. That is where the state should put it's money first. Aim for a response time of 5 minutes within the state capital and fifteen minutes in rural areas. That should be the kind of target the architects should strive for.
