Hello, everyone.

I’m planning to apply to the masters by research MSc program at Melbourne University, by August/ September. I studied Food science and technology and have a grade of 4.0/5. I graduated in 2024, so I am currently rounding up with my NYSC.

I don’t have any publication, but I am trying to work on one, at the moment. Not sure if this matters, but I have been lucky enough to undertake my one year training and 6 months Internship at both internationally well recognized food companies.

After going through the requirements for application on the Melbourne website, I found out Nigerian student can be waived for Ielts. However, a research proposal is required. So please, i need tips on writing a strong one, as well as SOP’s that are very suitable for Australian schools. Any other advice that might be useful for my application to university of melbourne would be very appreciated, too.

Finally, it would be nice to also connect with those who have gone through this path, who were or are currently MSc student in Melbourne University. Also, I would like to be added to an Australian immigration group if there’s one.

Lovebeam:
Good day, everyone
I'm so distressed right now, and any clarity I could get will go a long way.

My profile
Education: Bsc Physiology(Second Class upper)
Age: Currently 25, turning 26 in a few months.
Financial capacity in view: let's say about 25 million naira, I can work for more, God willing.

I want to consider the study pathway to Australia.

I've made a series of research, and I think I'm going insane at this point🥲🥹

1. I want an affordable university where I can study an allied health program(this decision is for long term purpose), good course recommendations will be highly appreciated 🙏
I researched on Occupational Therapy, and speech pathology, and they seem to be a really competitive course.
I'm not sure of the prospects. Psychotherapy has.
2. I don't have families that are well to do for them to stand as my sponsor as I myself do not have 75 million naira(I saw in this thread) in my account to show as proof of funds, but my dad's childhood friend has offered to stand in as my sponsor, but how do I proof relationship?🥲
3. I think I want to study at a regional university to help me claim points during the PR application, which universities can you people please recommend?(I know that this answer is vague, I'm in so much distress🥹)

4. Does anyone think my 25 million naira budget can pay my tuition deposit +OSHC+Visa fee+bio metric+medicals?
I can look around for the travel expenses if my visa gets approved, I pray so.

I don't even know what I'm asking anymore😔

I should note that I tried applying for studies in Europe last year but got refused, its not a rejection as my school deferred my admission until this year September, so the immigration deemed it as incomplete application, closed it temporarily to continue when I apply for this intake, I do not plan on reapplying as I can not provide internship documents as the reason my application was not considered.
There's no visa rejection in my history.

Please, just advise me as your own and direct me 🙏🙏
Can I have your whatsapp? maybe we can share information together cos I also want to migrate

Hi everyone, just a quick one please 🙏

I submitted a PhD application to the University of Sydney from the UK. The admissions team has now requested additional documents, including the completion of the GS Assessment form and evidence of financial capacity, such as bank statements or a savings certificate for either myself or my sponsor before my application can be processed.

Has anyone experienced being asked for financial documents at the application stage? I was under the impression that these are usually required only at the time of CoE issuance or visa application.

Yes they are asked at this stage. The school needs to know you are capable before extending the admission to you.
Re: General Australian Student Visa Enquiries Part 3 by Kdamilola(m): 9:30pm On Apr 04
They usually don't ask this from PhD applicants at this stage. Perhaps you didn't select the option that asks if you'd like to be considered for RTP. If you don't pick that, then I presume they'll assume you want to self sponsor.

This is just a theory though; there may be other factors they considered before asking for this info.

Thanks for your contribution but I definitely ticked to be considered for RTP to be honest and I can’t wrap my head around why they are asking for this at this stage.

Do you think they want to see all the money sitting in the account at this point or you reckon that a bank statement with huge and steady inflows even if short of the required amount could suffice at least for now?
Re: General Australian Student Visa Enquiries Part 3 by Kdamilola(m): 4:26am On Apr 07
It's quite strange. Perhaps that's the new norm.

Although it'd be a difficult ask, I'll suggest you try getting close to the amount required for one semester school fee in your account, if possible, and add a letter stating your intention to secure a RTP scholarship (let them know you've applied, if you've done that, and if you have any research scholarship discussion with your supervisor, I'll suggest you mention it and cc your supervisor when responding the admission office).

Also, I think it'd be good to have a prior discussion with your supervisor about this. He/she may be able to suggest the best way to handle this situation.

Wishing you all the best, mate.
Cheers.

I'm a PhD student at the University of Sydney. Did you get any letter of support from your supervisor regarding any scholarship. The PhD program is super expensive and would best be pursued with a scholarship. So, clarify your funding options from your supervisor.
